CYFLWYNIAD

Tymor paratoi, tymor disgwyl yw Adfent wrth inni baratoi at ddyfodiad Crist yn ei ymgnawdoliad. Er nad yw barn ddwyfol yn gysyniad poblogaidd y dyddiau hyn, yr ydym yn disgwyl ymlaen hefyd at ei ailddyfodiad ar ddiwedd yr amser. Efallai fod gwell gennym feddwl am y baban yn y crud na gorfod wynebu barn Duw yn ei ogoniant mawr.

Yr amser hwn o’r flwyddyn, mae’r dyddiau’n hir ac yn dywyll. Mae pawb yn hiraethu am y golau ac oherwydd hynny, efallai, mae traddodiad cynnau canhwyllau Adfent wedi datblygu. Mae’r cannwyll yn cynrychioli Iesu Grist, sydd yn aberthu ei hunan er mwyn dod â golau i’n bywydau ni.

Eleni mae Eglwys Dewi Sant yn estyn gwahoddiad i chi. Beth am ymuno â ni i ddathlu gwasanaeth Adfent bob dydd yn eich cartrefi am 6.30 y.h. (neu amser sydd yn gyfleus i chi)? Mae’r llyfryn hwn yn cynnig strwythur gwasanaeth Adfent ar gyfer pob diwrnod yr wythnos. Gosodir gwasanaeth dydd Sul yn ei gyfanrwydd ac ar ôl hynny gosodir darlleniadau a themâu gweddi ar gyfer pob dydd. Mae’r pynciau gweddi yn cymryd lle’r gwersiglau* yng ngwasanaeth dydd Sul.

Byddai’n braf i feddwl bod cynulleidfa wasgaredig Eglwys Dewi Sant yn gallu dod ynghyd bob dydd i weddïo gyda’n gilydd er mwyn paratoi ar gyfer dyfodiad Crist.

INTRODUCTION

Advent is a time of preparation, a time of expectation as we prepare for the coming of Christ incarnate. Even though divine judgement is not a popular subject these days, we are also looking forward to his second coming at the end of time. Perhaps we would rather think about the baby in the crib than face the judgement of God in his might and glory.

At this time of year the days are long and dark. Everyone longs for the light and because of that, perhaps, the tradition of lighting Advent candles has developed. A candle symbolises Jesus Christ as it sacrifices itself in order to bring light to our lives

This year Eglwys Dewi Sant extends an invitation to you. What about joining us to celebrate Advent each night in your home at 6.30 p.m.? This booklet offers you a structure for a daily Advent celebration. A service for Sundays is set out in full and, after that, readings and prayer themes are set out for each day of the week. The subjects for prayer take the place of the versicles* in the Sunday service.

It would be wonderful to think that the scattered congregation of Eglwys Dewi Sant could unite in prayer each day to prepare for the coming of Christ.
