CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME 2016 - 2017

In the present scenario, students are not able to make their career choices, because they do not know their strengths and weaknesses and they are not aware of the new emerging career options available. Career Guidance is the need of the hour.

Vidya Vikas Academy took the initiative to conduct the psychometric test for all the students of Class 10ABC. The Health and Wellness Teacher of Vidya Vikas Academy, Mrs. Wilma Francis Alphonso conducted the test. The tests included Aptitude Test, Personality Test and Interest Inventory. Based on the findings of the results, students were given appropriate career guidance.

As a part of this career guidance programme, a workshop was organised on 25th February 2017 at the Ganesh Daivajna auditorium at the G.R. Kare College of Law. Mr. Shadab Siddiqui, proprietor of Career Scribe from Mumbai was the resource person. He gave the students precise and factual input on career options available in India. Students also clarified their doubts during the session.

We at VVA wish the students all the best in their future and hope that they make wise decisions to choose a career and be content & prosperous in their endeavors.

WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

“The Earth is made for all beings, not just human beings”. “The World Wildlife Day” was celebrated at VVA on 3rd March 2017.

A special assembly was conducted by the students of Class 3A which was attended by classes 3 & 4. The assembly began with a short prayer service. The students enacted a mime and gave messages to save the wildlife and an informative poem on “Tigers” was recited. An enthralling dance performance on the song “Jumbo Bwana” entertained everyone.

The Principal Dr. Alan Rodrigues also spoke to the students on the importance of preserving wildlife and the environment. Co-ordinated by : Tr. Catrin Cruz

PRE-PRIMARY KIDS CELEBRATE HOLI

Holi, “festival of colours” signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships, and also a thanksgiving for a good harvest.

The students of the pre-primary section celebrated the festival of Holi on the 10th of March 2017. The festivities, the story and the significance was discussed with the children. The children enjoyed splashing water with ‘pichkaris’ and danced to the Holi song. The students of Jr.kg A conducted the assembly. Staff Co-ordinator : Genisia Pereira

PRE-PRIMARY CULTURAL EVENING

On 18th March 2017 the stage at Ravindra Bhavan Auditorium, Margao was aptly decorated for the programme, which saw talented children express their young world through songs, dance and music.

The curtains opened with a classical dance performance by the young students of the Nitralaya dance academy, followed by a fitness demonstration.

The enthusiastic children of the Pre-Primary played their parts perfectly and the children performed in a choral group for the first time and were trained by Tr. Archana Dias. The choral group sang in perfect harmony, which was much appreciated and applauded by the viewers. The participants being young, it was no easy task to get this amazing performance and was clear that the pre primary teachers did an excellent job in guiding, motivating and boosting their confidence, to give an outstanding performance.

The response of the crowd was obvious with the applauding. The theme which covered important aspects of a young child’s life with living in peace, harmony, friendship and environment. Some of the acts emphasized the importance of being healthy and keeping oneself and surroundings clean.

One of the acts also demonstrated the love and respect for oneself and family. The audience had an insight to the childrens’ unique perspective of the world around them.

The cultural evening was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience as well as the children which not only left beautiful memories but also touched the hearts of all. Staff Co-ordinator: Tr. Ninoshca Martins

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR FOREST AND TREES “Forestry is the work of nation builders”

To sensitise the children to become the crusaders for environment conservation, the students of Class 5 at Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated International Day for Forest and Tress with the objectives to create awareness about the importance and significance of forests and tress. A special assembly was conducted with great aplomb and enthusiasm which included a musical skit, poems quotes, stories etc highlighting the need to conserve and preserve them with care. WORLD POETRY DAY

World Poetry Day, was observed on 23rdMarch, 2017 at VidyaVikas Academy, Comba, Margao, Goa. A special assembly was conducted to celebrate the same, by students from Classes 4, 5 and 7.

The assembly began with the school prayer, pledge and the national anthem. This was followed with an introduction of what poetry is all about and how it helps one, to express oneself, in a beautiful, rhythmic and creative manner. The beauty of writing poetry, was best expressed in a poetic style. The poem “The beauty of writing poetry” was recited by Tiara Fernandes of Class 7C composed by Nicole Lourenco of Class 9C.

This was followed by a few more pupils who came forward, and recited poems, both in English and Hindi, thus encouraging students to appreciate poetry, irrespective of the language. The poems were recited with expression and actions, which indeed, brought out their true meaning, in a creative manner.

The assembly concluded with a quote and a thought for the day. Various poetries written by children from different classes, were displayed on the bulletin board, for reading pleasure and appreciation. Staff Co-Ordinators: Mrs. Kalpana Bhide, Mrs. Bhuvaneshwari, Mrs. Marina D’costa

BEACH CLEANING PROGRAMME BY NCC CADETS

A beach cleanliness programme was conducted by the NCC Cadets of Vidya Vikas Academy on 25th March 2017 at the Rajbaug Beach, Cananguinim, Canacona Goa.

The NCC unit of VVA takes up such annual initiatives of cleanliness drive, tree plantation etc which are concerning the environment and the community. The beach cleaning programme was conducted under the able guidance of NCC Officer Sidharth Faldesai.

Such drives are a wonderful opportunity to sensitise students on the importance of cleanliness in one’s neighbourhood.

NCC Cadets along with the staff members of VVA collected a large portion of garbage including the plastic and other waste materials and segregated it. The segregated waste was then handed over to the village panchayat. The programme was covered by the press reporters of GOA 365 News Channel.

It was the encouragement from the Management of Vidya Vikas Mandal and motivation from the Principal, Dr. Alan Rodrigues and Vice-Principals, Mrs. Tania Monteiro and Mrs. Joble Bijoy which made the cadets take up this initiative seriously making this programme a grand success. PUPPETRY – PLAYFUL PUPPETS – ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH – MARCH 2017

Great thoughts converted to practice will become great accomplishments.

The students of VVA, of classes 1 to 5, through their determination and creativity had put up a mesmerising puppet show in their respective classes during the month of March. The show was conducted by the class teachers along with the art teacher.

The activity involved team spirit. The objective of this activity was, apart from the art of puppet making, students were able to enhance their Art, English narration and scripting skills. Students came up with various kinds of puppets using socks, sticks, and cloth. Students used their creativity by using recycled materials.

The puppet show was a learning experience as every item sent across an inspirational message to the young learners.

WORLD AUTISM DAY World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 02nd April every year. Since this year, 02nd April was a Sunday, Vidya Vikas Academy observed World Autism Day on 30th March 2017. World Autism awareness day celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism. At Vidya Vikas Academy our students showed their talents through song and dance. Ransley Rodrigues and Dane Martins played the guitar while Derrick Rodrigues and Aaron de Melo played the keyboard for the hymns sung during the assembly.

A video presentation on the activities conducted in the resource room was showed to the audience to give them a better understanding of how students learn according to their abilities.

Maria D’Cunha a parent of the Resource Room and Tr. Neerja Bane spoke about the positive changes they have seen in the children. A few dedicated students from the regular classes were felicitated for their support to the students from the resource room. The program ended with a foot stomping dance performance by the children. ADVENTURE OUTING AT NIRMAL NATURE CAMP SITE An adventurous day outing at Nirmal Nature Camp Site filled in the air with excitement for the students of Classes 1 and 2. The Camp Site is located at Tilamol, Quepem.

Students of Class 1 visited the site accompanied by Tr. Martha D’souza, Tr. Velia De Souza and Tr. Besty Ferrao and the students of class 2 visited the site accompanied by Tr. Evrida Jacques, Tr. Jesinha Rodrigues and Tr. Sunita D’Souza in the month of March.

Mr. James Fernandes, the representative of Nirmal Nature camp warmly welcomed the students and the staff. Later the students were taken around the camp site on a Nature walk. It was a rare opportunity for them to experience the different types of soil, fields, canal water and the humming of the birds.

After the walk and refreshment students assembled for a session of adventurous activities. They participated in activities like Tarzan rope, tyre crawl, watch tower, monkey bridge, commando beach slide, wall climb tunnel crossing, ladder climb etc.

The students experienced the outdoor activity under the guidance of Mr. Omana Kuttan G. At the end of the day a cleanliness drive was done by the students to clear the tents and the surrounding. PRE-PRIMARY KIDS CELEBRATE BAISAKHI, EASTER . . .

Baisakhi is one of the major festivals of Sikhs and is celebrated in the state of Punjab and all throughout the world where there is a significant Sikh population. Baisakhi Festival marks the time for harvest of rabi crops and they celebrate the day by performing the joyful bhangra and the gidda dance.

Festival of Baisakhi was celebrated with great fun and enthusiasm by the Pre-Primary children. The Sr. KG students were dressed up in colourful Punjabi Costumes and performed the Bhangra dance. The teacher discussed the significance of the festival. The assembly was co-ordinated by Tr. Leena Rebello.

Easter, is a festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion It is the culmination Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

The Pre-Primary students conducted a special assembly to celebrate Easter. Easter Egg hunt was the highlight of the day. Tr. Marissa co-ordinated the assembly.

BEACH SPORTS – CLASS 3 AND CLASS 4 Report by: Catrin Cruz

“Just like reading and writing, children have to learn to move”

We are all aware that active children are more likely to become active adults. Sports is much more than just a means to an end in trying to keep kids physically fit. Beach sports was organised in the month of March for the pupils of Classes 3 ABC and 4ABC, at Zalor Beach Carmona, to give them an enriching experience of playing as a team.

An ambience was created with colourful flags and placards. Various beach games were organised as in, three-legged race, finding the coins, filling the bottles with coconut shells etc.

The students enthusiastically got involved and participated in all team games . They returned back to school after a refreshing drink and healthy snacks. It was a fun filled experience! Staff Co-ordinators : Omana Kuttan, Sidharth Faldesai, Balika Phaldesai and Ashish Shirodkar

SCIENCE EXHIBITION – CLASS 4ABC

“The Universe doesn’t give you what you ask for with your thoughts, it gives you what you demand with your actions.”

The students of Class 4C organized a small exhibition in the month of March titled “ Our Universe.” Various exhibits, charts and food items related to the universe were displayed. Some of the exhibits included : Trrapist – 1 the new system discovered in the milky way, dwarf planets of the solar system, the solar system made of cake and chocolate, the milky way made of sugar icing, the big bang etc.

The students even displayed a small oil rig made of lego and explained in detail the working of it. A lot of effort, research, time and energy was put in by the students to make this exhibition a success which was appreciated by all.

The students of Classes 4A and 4B also conducted a Science Exhibition on 23rd of March 2017. All the students displayed their innovative talents.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year, the world over, focusing on the general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements. Students of Class XII commemorated this day by having a special assembly focusing on the theme for the year 2017, “Be Bold, For Change”.

An inspiring video based on the life of a woman was screened. The assembly ended with all the men in the hall standing up and thanking the women present at the assembly for their constant support and commitment. The assembly was coordinated by Tr. Joyce

WORLD POETRY DAY, INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS AND WORLD WATER DAY

On 22nd March 2017, students of Senior Secondary Section celebrated World Poetry Day, International day of Forests and World Water Day at a special assembly held in the school hall.

The Assembly began with an introduction and awareness on the purpose of celebrating these three important days at the International level. Three students’ recited poems in three different languages i.e. in Kannada, Malayalam and Marathi followed by the translation in English to ensure all students enjoyed the essence of the writing.

Further, a short video was played which depicted tips to save water, save trees and respect nature in day to day life. The assembly concluded by reading out the importance of each day.
