Her Excellency Ambassador Kristie Kenney, the US Ambassador, visited Satree Phuket School on 12 June 2013 and had a friendly talk with our staff and students. Her natural gracefulness impressed everyone.

ECP is on its way to WASC Accreditation.English Curriculum Program, Satree Phuket School is chosen by OBEC to be one of the three candidates of WASC accreditation. WASC or Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredits schools that meet an acceptable level of quality, in accordance with established, research-based WASC criteria. We are doing our best to be ready for the initial visit of WASC.

On 16 September 2013, Satree Phuket School administrators and teachers visited Ruamrudee International School, which was accredited by WASC. Dr.Peter M. Toscano, Head of School, shared with us a lot of useful information on how to prepare for WASC accreditation.

Southern EP Curriculum Development Workshop 2013 English Curriculum Program hosted the Southern EP Curriculum Development Workshop 2013 at Pearl Hotel during 30 August - 1 September. Honorable speakers of the workshop were Associate Professor Dr.Saowalak Rattanawich and Dr.Chatkaew Bhaowises who lectured on curriculum development and teaching thinking skills. ECP teachers, Aj.Christopher Swift and Aj.Declan Britton also joined up on stage to share their teaching experience on deploying technology in the classroom. The workshop participants were EP teachers from 54 schools in the south.

Satree Phuket School

This camp encouraged M.1 students to use English to collaborate. They were assigned to work in groups to create presentations and performances in the theme of ASEAN. They worked well together and their performances brought smiles to everyone’s face.

This camp provided M.2 students with many challenging activities that required problem-solving skills and leadership. The students managed to overcome all the difficult problems and realized that everyone can be a good leader if he or she can delegate, sacrifice and inspire people.

This workshop guided M.3 students on how to use technology to present their work effectively. The kids learned how to organize their ideas and how to create their work using hi-tech devices. They also learned how to live and work together.

This trip was part of an assessment of Young Guide subject taught by Aj. Declan Britton. The students visited many tourist attractions in Phuket and took turns being tour guides. They were also assigned to film what they experienced. It was one day of great fun for them.

M.4/13 students traveled to Bangkok to visit Mahidol Academic Fair and many scientific museums. The kids also visited Dialogue in the Dark exhibition, where they were impressed by how blind people live their daily lives.

ECP students learned how to improve their personality and attitude. Dr. Yalisa Tonsorn, a specialist from Suan Dusit Rajabhat University taught them how to stand and walk mindfully and gracefully.

M.5 and M.6 students visited CU, MUIC, TU and SU this year. They were glad to get first hand information on how to apply for their dream faculties. After learning about a university life, all of them came home with determination to make their dreams come true. They also took TU-GET test during the trip to see whether their English was good enough for the admission. Many of them did great on the test. Good job!

In order to take proper care of the students, a seminar was held for teachers to learn how to use positive discipline at school. Associate Professor Dr. Sombat Tapanya, our guest speaker, is a specialist on positive disciplining. He used a lot of case studies to guide our teachers on how to put positive discipline into practice. The teachers discussed disciplinary problems at school and came up with some good ideas to solve the problems. The seminar was both e d u c a t i o n a l a n d practical.

We work & learn together for development!

This workshop was aimed to enhance our staff’s IT skills. The homeroom teachers learnt how to use Edmodo, an educational application that can be used to teach and create networks with other teachers and parents. Knowing how to use Edmodo, the homeroom teachers can help more in the classrooms and have effective ways to keep in touch with parents.

Throughout the first semester, ECP teachers took part in several workshops to develop their professional skills. The ultimate goal of these workshops was to help the students become smart leaders and responsible global citizens. Examples of the workshops are…

The English Language Learning Area Hello, all readers How have you been? We are approaching the end of the first semester 2013 academic year.

Lots of things and activities have been done during this semester. Within the tiresome, we have done and learned a lot of things. Let’s figure out what they are.

ERIC Phuket hosted a seminar “ Improving English Speaking and Listening Proficiency Seminar for ASEAN Community ” from 3rd - 5th April 2013 at Satree Phuket School. There were 62 teachers from every secondary school teachers participated in the seminar. They learned and got some teaching techniques to enrich students’ language skills for ASEAN.

Another seminar during 29th - 31st May hosted by ERIC Phuket was “ Thai Youth English Camp Enhancing ASEAN Member Countries ” The objectives of this seminar are to enhance students’ English learning skills for being good members of ASEAN and to encourage students’ English learning opportunities. 146 students from 7 governmental schools participated in the seminar. They were then divided in to groups to learn English communicative skills from each rotation. All smart trainers worked hard and had good time with the students.

To strengthen students’ understanding about being AEC : ASEAN Economic Community, all M.6 classrooms were assigned to display the exhibition about one aspect of ASEAN. Every student studied the details of ASEAN at building 5. Each exhibition displayed the information, vocabulary and questions.

The impromptu speech competition of Phuket round was held at Satree Phuket School on 14th June, 2013 The representative students from governmental schools and private schools were selected to participate in the competition arena.

The third seminar held in our learning area during 27-28th May 2013 was “ English seminar and workshop : Testing” There were 52 teachers from various schools in Phuket participated in the seminar. They learned and practiced about test terminology, types of tests, the test tasks, how to create exam issue, to choose the benchmark and also to find the indicators to suit the test items.

The English Resource Instruction Center Phuket hosted a tuition workshop for M.3 and M.6 students from Cherngtalaywittayakom School and Weerasatree-Anusorn School from 2nd - 5th July, 2013. All English trainer teachers came from 7 governmental schools. The students studied how to do English Examination.
