Our School

Immaculate Heart of Mary is a government aided co-educational secondary school founded by the

Franciscan Missionary of Our Lady of Sorrows in 1981. The construction of the school campus was

completed on 27th August, 1981 and the official opening and blessing ceremony was held on 9th February, 1983

by The Most Rev. Bishop John B. Wu, Rev. Sr. M. Francis OSF & Mr. Chan Yan Pang SEO. With the support

and guidance from the Franciscan sisters, the school has optimized its class structure in face of changing needs

of the society.

School Mission

Through the example of BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in the LIFE of JESUS, the school staff and the

students are led to imitate HER COMPASSIONATE LOVE and WILLING WORKS OF SERVICE TO

OTHERS. Empowered by the spirit of Gospel, the school is dedicated to providing a caring and supportive

school environment so that learning is valued, mutual respect is shared and all members can develop potential

to the fullest capacity. By means of our concern for catholic faith, personal formation and scholarly

development, we strive to prepare students to become responsible citizens who contribute to society, are

sensitive to the needs of others and meet the challenges of today’s world.

Catholic Faith

We provide an atmosphere whereby each student is encouraged to seek a relationship with God through

generous personal response to the Gospel and by acquiring an active understanding and experience of the

Catholic tradition.

Religious Education and Liturgical Activities

Since we are a Catholic institute of education, Christian values are to be upheld and exemplified through

religious education. Moreover, students are encouraged to participate daily in prayer, to join the school

community in various liturgical activities, availing themselves of these opportunities to reflect their faith and

lifestyle.

We seek to provide all members of the college, working harmoniously under a common community spirit,

the experience of a genuine sense of belonging, where each one finds charity, support, gentleness, kindness and

tolerance.

Personal Formation

We aim to develop each student’s value, self-esteem and career through personal guidance in which the

students realize their self-identity, are recognized as individuals, and experience a caring, supportive school

environment.

Holistic Development Approach

Students are encouraged to reach for excellence in every dimension of their lives (spiritual, moral,

cognitive, emotional, physical and social) through the range of activities offered in the school so that they will

grow towards maturity as persons of character and education.

Such approach seeks to reveal and develop each student’s character, abilities and leadership potential

through our concern for their religion, emotional, physical , academic and psychological needs.

Career Preparation

By means of a balanced curriculum, we prepare our students for their own free, informed, conscientious

choices in study, work and life. The essence of our career guidance programs is to assist students to qualify

themselves for further education and careers, and to pursue growth as an individual, capable of independence

and responsible life decisions.

Scholarly Development

We seek to maximize the achievement opportunities of our students so that they can acquire

self-motivation and independent thinking, respect for knowledge and the search for truth.

Persevering Attitudes

Students are encouraged to develop their intellectual skills through consistent hard work, regular study

habits and a fulfilling of their duties.

Our Outcomes

So that each student will live Catholic values, serve humanity and society, and grow towards maturity as

a person of character, of education and of charity, our college aims to develop:

1. a college community that is genuinely interested in and supportive of all members, fostering individual

growth and development;

2. Catholic values, respect for the values of others, and the ability to critically evaluate the current social

issues;

3. an ‘all-round development in moral, spiritual, cognitive, emotional, physical, social and aesthetic

education;

4. an awareness and challenge for students towards their responsibilities to love the less fortunate and the less

privileged, who hold priority in our care and concern;

5. the individual interests and abilities of students, for the betterment of their personal welfare and that of

society.

Our Vision

Being a professional educational organization which has inherited the education values of the Franciscan

Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, we adhere to our school mission to practice the spirit of the

Gospel — loving God and people.

We envisage that all teaching and administrative staff in the Immaculate Heart of Mary family is

dedicated professionals who keep abreast of the trends in teaching. They are not only role models of students,

but also caring and committed teachers.

We hope our students will develop simplicity and wholesomeness, while becoming intellectually

competent to learn actively and think independently. Being nurtured to be young leaders who can shoulder

responsibility, they also imitate St. Francis to be a channel of peace in communities.

We envision that through parent-teacher collaboration and effective utilization of community resources,

students will develop their potential to full capacity. With a sense of social awareness and responsibility, they

will be compassionate in serving others and contributing to communities.

School Facilities

The school is well-equipped with air-conditioned classrooms and laboratories for learning activities.

Under the School Improvement Project, a new wing with a new staff room, 4 classrooms and a staff common

room was built in January 1998. A corner of solitude was founded in the same year to make room for student

activities. In preparation for the New Senior Secondary Curriculum, the Design & Technology Room was

renovated to make room for a second Computer Room for small group and self-access learning activities.

School Management

The Incorporated Management Committee of IHMC was established on 1st March, 2014. It is

composed by 15 school managers, from the School Sponsoring Body, teachers, parents, alumni and an

independent member. Regular meetings were held to review and supervise the operation of the school.

Under the management of the IMC, the School will continue to instill among its students the core values of

Teaching Experience :

Professional Development

The school arranged a number of professional development programs for its staff. The contents covered

topics such as staff sharing sessions, spiritual development programme and personal well-being.

First of all, a workshop on catering for students with special education needs was held on 24 October

2014. The school-based support strategies for SENs were reviewed. A few teachers shared their experience

in lessons with SEN students. The sharing was rated high with colleagues agreeing that they understood more

how to deal with SEN effectively.

Another workshop was run on career mapping on 28 October 2014. The Career Mistress briefed the

colleagues about the career programmes planned for various form levels. Mr Ho Chun Yan, Vice-chairman of

the Association of Counselling Teachers, conducted an inspiring workshop on helping students with career

mapping.

A full-day workshop Building a Positive Relation with Parents was organized for all teachers. The

facilitators from Wings Training Consultancy Limited reminded teachers about the importance of good

communication with parents and provided teachers with opportunities to maximize our communication skills

through small group practice.

A Communication Excellence Programme was run by Meta International Academy in March 2015 To

cultivate a healthy and relationship-based environment for the continuous success of the school. During the

two-day workshop, different communication styles and polished teachers’ skills in rapport building from the

perspective of neuro-linguistic programming were highlighted.

Our Learning and Teaching

The school focused its work throughout the academic year to make teaching interesting and

student-engaging by using the questioning strategy with daily life experiences in lessons. The teaching team

made efforts and collaborated on improving English medium instructions.

To facilitate student learning using the English medium, the Language Across Curriculum Team

collaborated with the Integrated Science panel to design worksheets to cater learner diversity. The English

Panel had meetings with the science teachers to discuss the syllabuses of the two subjects. The newly designed

worksheets were tried out in F.1 I.S. lessons. For F.2, there was a collaborative assignment with History Panel

based on the English magazine students subscribe to. Students had to finish the worksheets. For F.3, a set of

Geography worksheets was specially designed to facilitate learning across curriculum. F.5 English teachers

collaborated with Visual Arts teacher to teach students writing an essay concerning VA. Apart from a workshop,

students were taught how to present their ideas logically and grammatically based on an essay they have

written.

In order to provide students with opportunities for authentic language use, the English Panel arranged

students to participate in the Young Writers’ Awards and Teen Time with RTHK. Also, junior form students

were required to attend the International Assessment to raise their language proficiency. Besides the regular

debate workshops and competitions, the students were trained to give demonstrations to the students in the

affiliated primary school.

To provide sufficient support for those students weaker in Chinese Language, the panel arranged a special

group which targeted the F.1 & 2. This was intended to strengthen their foundation. To assist students to

learn better in the subject, the teachers conducted systematic co-lesson planning and designed worksheets on

specific language focus. The teaching of Chinese culture was enriched in F.5. Besides, a writing competition

was organized with the Student Union to encourage students polish their language use. The outstanding

article was published in the bulletin.

In order that students could explore about the spatial distribution of urban activities in Sai Kung Town, the

Educational Team from the Urban Renewal Authority was invited to run an in-house workshop for our F.5

Geography students on 29 October 2014. In the workshop, students experienced the various stages of

decision-making process between redevelopment and renewal through role play. At the end of the workshop,

students had deeper understanding on the need to renew some areas and the difficulties the work would face.

Exhibits about the renewal of urban Hong Kong were displayed in the following week near the covered

playground where all students would have easy access.

Both F.4 and F.5 students visited the Stephen Hui Geological Museum. They were excited to learn more

about rocks and minerals at a venue where loads of specimens were displayed. They were fascinated by the

valuable gemstones and fossils of dinosaur eggs. Students reflected that they learnt new knowledge during the

visit and the visit helped their understanding of the school lessons. F.5 students also spent a morning in Sai

Kung Town walking through all streets and lanes to mark the land use distribution. They were also asked to

tally pedestrian flow at specific points and were excited at the challenge of using a map to navigate themselves

in the town. The field work was a good experience to enhance both communication skills and collaboration

skills, not to say synthesizing geographical knowledge.

Activities related to the society were held in the F.1 Visual Arts lessons. Students could know more

about the development of their community and increase their sense of belonging to their neighbourhood. All

F.1 − F.3 students were asked to visit the exhibition called “All Are Guests – Homecoming”. The exhibition

revealed complex and dynamic host-guest relationships through different media and features works by some

local young artists.

The ICT panel arranged students to apply their knowledge outside classrooms. Training was given to

students in assembling LEGO robot and programming and a team of students joined a competition named

“Robot Intelligence DIY 2015” organized jointly by Creative Power Educational Association and Hong Kong

Science Museum. Besides, twenty-eight ICT students visited the network control center of PCCW in Lai chi

Kok in the ICT Open Day, part of the activities in the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

Hong Kong 2015. It provided students a great opportunity to interact with senior executives and understand

the actual work situation as well as the prospect of ICT industry, arousing their interests to be part of it.

Afterwards, some of them attended an IT-exploration tour in HACTL, organized by International IT Fest 2015

to understand the use of IT in logistics industry. The tour raised students’ awareness in considering the ICT

industry as their career.

Support for Student Development

The Religious & Moral Education Committee developed a school based curriculum on Life, one of the

core values of Catholic education. The Religious Education panel designed a lesson plan about this core value,

so as to teach students how to live a meaningful life. The life of Saint Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII

were introduced. Students received messages on how the Popes contributed themselves to the world. Reflection

on the students contributed themselves to their family, school and society. Such ideas were further elaborated

through the Religion Week. It was a good idea to cooperate with Pastoral Care Team to have a simple idea with

lots of follow-up activities. Such practice would be a routine work schedule of the Religious Moral Education

Team, the Religious Education Panel and the Pastoral Care Team.

In line with the committee objective this year, the Pastoral Care Team held the Religion Week from 13th to

17th October on the theme “The Grace in Life, the Joy in Life”. A “Rich-and-Poverty Meal” was arranged for

the students to appreciate what they obtain in their life. They were also expected to learn to love God & His

people. Sharing on fruitful and thankful life was conducted for each form. A doctor, a nurse and alumni were

being invited. They provided an opportunity for students to think about their goal and the meanings of their

lives.

To enrich the religious life of our students, a pilgrimage trip was held in Macau on 10th April, 2015.

Altogether 16 students and 9 teachers participated in it. The group visited four different churches there. A

Walk for Religious Vocation was organized on 25th May, 2015. 23 students & staff members participated in

the walk from IHMK to St. Benedict Church. The event ended with prayers at the Holy Spirit Seminary.

To prepare students for the school’s 35th anniversary, a group of 20 students went to a trip to Taiwan with

4 staff members and two OSF sisters. They visited the OSF sisters in Taishan, Taiwan and acquired

understanding about the missionary work of our school sponsoring body. Our supervisor and one sister joined

the trip for two days. It was the first time that IHMC representatives visited the sisters of our school sponsoring

body residing overseas. They also visited the World Religions Museum and a tile production factory. The

trip was jointly organized with the Life Education Team from 7th to 11th April, 2015. It was a precious

experience for our students to interview the sisters in Taiwan and learn more about consecrated life.

Besides, Catholic students were trained to take up different roles in religious rituals so as increase

solidarity in the team and enhance their faith.

In the domain of moral & civic education, talks on goal setting and national education were held for all

forms. Sessions on “I Do Love Trees” and “The Amazon” were held for F1 and 2. Also, 2 reflection sessions

on studies and 2014 Review were especially designed. A video show and a prayer meeting were organized for

F.3 on the feast day of Bl. Fr. Grabriel M. Allegra. Also, talks on Hong Kong election and organ donation

were held for F6. Some tailor-made sessions for students were helpful in forming positive study habit. The talk

on organ donation was attractive with positive feedback from students. Those programs successfully drew

students’ attention towards caring for oneself, the environment and the society.

Page 10: School Report (2014-15) - 聖母無玷聖心書院 · PDF fileThrough the example of BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in the LIFE of JESUS, ... Under the management of the IMC, ... group which

To echo the direction set by the RME Committee, the Life Education Team co-organized with the former a

series of life experiential sessions for F.4 students. They visited South Asian people, the blind, the lower

income group and special schools. They understood the needs of the deprived in our society and appreciated

the gifts they acquired in life.

The Life Education also organized long distance running activities for F.2 students after the Perseverance

Talk held by the Guidance and Counselling Team. They were required to run along the Shing Mun River.

All students were expected to run 3 kilometres. 117 students completed it in 30 minutes and were awarded

certificates. 128 students completed the 3 kilometers at least once. A few form teachers also joined the run

to increase class solidarity. This activity was successful in raising the sense of belonging to the class. At the

same time, students learned to live a positive life.

Besides, the Life Education Team arranged students to join the 4C Youth Volunteer Scheme organized by

the Agency for Volunteer Development. The project aimed to develop volunteer qualities among young

people. Students attended volunteer training and attended required service sessions. Another group of F.1, 3

&4 students joined a leadership training project called 跳躍生命計劃 2014-2015 體驗及領袖培訓. They

attended a camp at Noah’s Park and Salvation Army Education and Development Centre. A workshop was

held afterwards.

The Guidance & Counselling Team organized a range of preventive activities to facilitate teenage

development. The F.2 Perseverance talk was held on 5th November 2014. The team invited two guest

speakers from Hong Kong PHAB Association. The guest speakers were Gao Yunwen 高韻雯 (Koko), a spastic

painter and a photographer with disability. The talk was followed by two hiking activities. A group of the

better performed students joined the orienteering challenge learned a lot of useful skills necessary for outdoors.

Besides, a goal-setting camp was held at Stanley on 6th & 7th July 2015. It was hoped that more bonding

could be built up among students when they struck for good results in the public examination.

A juggling team was set up by the Individualized Learning Support Team to provide training and

performance opportunities for students. The regular meetings and service / performance sessions helped

improve their social skills and self-confidence. The Team also joined an inclusion activity named “Philosoft”

with Centennary Chan Lai Ling School. The participants learnt how to interact well with the SEN students.

They also exchanged school tours.

The Careers Team arranged a wide range of careers-related programmes for our students throughout the

school year. The Career and Life Planning programmes which were held during Form Teacher periods

included “Dream--A Shared Dream” for Form 1 students, “Possibility--Possible Jobs” for Form 2 students and

“Finding Your Colours of Life” for Form 3 students. The various programmes for senior form students

covered “Career Mapping” for Form 4 and Form 5 students, Online Interest Test for Form 5 students, Jupas

Talk about OEA and SLP for Form 5 and Form 6 students , university introduction and interview technique

workshop for Form 6 students.

Apart from the above activities, the Team also held various talks and seminars for both students and

parents, such as subject selection on Form 3 Parents’ Day, Multiple Pathways for NSS Students on Form 4 and

Form 5 Parents' Day, talks about JUPAS strategies and subject selection. The Alumni Association also invited

alumni to share on proper work attitude and their working experience with Form 4 to Form 5 students on

Careers Day. A series of activities, therefore, were held for Form 4 to Form 6 students such as Job Shadowing

Programme, Disney Foundations for Career Success, Disney Hospitality in Practice, Pricewaterhouse Coopers

Accounting Firm Visit, Accounting Career Talk, etc. In order to enhance students’ career knowledge and class

cohesion, Careers Quiz was held for Form 1 to Form 5 students. Moreover, a "Working Reality" workshop

will be held during the post-exam period for Form 4 students to help them set up clear goals. Immaculate

Heart of Mary Alumni Association and Careers Team co-organized a Career Day. Over 26 alumni came to

share their working attitude and experience with students in Form 4 and Form 5. Students commented they

gained valuable advice on life planning. To equip teachers with better careers counseling skills, we invited Mr.

Ho Chun Yan from HKAGMCM to conduct a seminar about helping students in life planning.

The up-to-date information about careers and further education was frequently released through the Careers

Team website, facebook, E-class, the bulletin board, morning assembly, careers pamphlets and Careers Room.

A cross boundary learning trip to Ho Chi Ming City, Vietnam was held from 9th to 12th April, 2015.

Students were able to explore the rich culture of Vietnam which interacts with oriental and occidental traditions.

A group of Form 1 - 4 students joined a tour to Rome in August 2015. To prepare for the upcoming 35th

Anniversary of the school, the Supervisor led a group of students, teachers and office staff to Catania, Milan

and Assisi and traced the roots of the school development.

After School Learning Support

After first term examinations, panels were requested to conduct remedial classes for those less able

students. There were Chinese, English and Math classes conducted from January, 2015 to May, 2015 for

junior forms. Summer remedial classes were also conducted for the underachievers. Besides, the After

School Learning Support Team also coordinated community-based programmes for disadvantaged students.

Two tutorial classes for F.2 were conducted by Caritas Hong Kong including English and Math from November,

2014 to May, 2015. Afterwards, a visit to Sky100 was organized by Caritas Hong Kong for those tutorial

participants.

Achievements and Reflections on Major Concerns

Priority Task 1: To make students more confident of learning

Achievements

All subjects’ web-pages were updated to include students’ activities and their masterpieces of work.

Among the Panels involved, Mathematics did their work best; images, animations, exercises and life

examples were posted to their e-learning page for teaching and learning. Even worksheets for lower forms

were uploaded for self-assessment.

Chinese Panel also did their work in webpage design very well. Images and masterpieces of famous

writers were posted to their e-learning page for teaching and learning, attached with worksheets and even

films. Even worksheets for lower forms were uploaded. The two Panels serve as a good model for other

subjects because they have ventured into the right direction of setting the webpage useful for both teaching

and learning.

In the study of BAFS, Students’ learning was enhanced through newspaper cutting and videos in its

e-learning platform. Wide discussions were resulted when newspaper was shared with students during

lessons. Lower achievers found the videos conducted in Cantonese very useful. Their results in

assessments have been improved. Some videos were uploaded before teaching the topic as suggested by

students in last year. According to the feedback of the teachers, students were engaged in learning through

e-learning and activities.

As the Chemistry Panel reported, the webpage had proved to be a platform for effective learning using the

internet. It was also important in catering for learning diversity. There were links to useful websites that

created a wide range of learning opportunities for students of different abilities to cater for the learning

diversity.

In the study of English, students’ were engaged in the lessons when the worksheets were given to students.

According to the teacher concerned, even weak students were motivated with authentic activities.

Reflection

The progress of major concern one was satisfactory. Websites were updated and lesson worksheets were

created. Yet, the use of the websites and worksheets had not been observed during lesson observation.

Panels should promote our e-learning platform during lessons and find ways to make use of our

e-learning platform to motivate students in self-learning. Visits to our e-learning platforms could be

awarded in some ways as designed by the Panels. Self-tests or tailored exercises of various level of

abilities could be posted to our webpage. Students needs more time to develop the e-learning habit.

Page 13: School Report (2014-15) - 聖母無玷聖心書院 · PDF fileThrough the example of BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in the LIFE of JESUS, ... Under the management of the IMC, ... group which

- P.12 -

There is still much room for development especially in the design of class worksheets and specific

worksheets. Judging from the weakness of students displayed in the examinations, Panel Heads are

responsible to lead their members to tailor more worksheets for better teaching and learning.

Panel Heads can exercise their autonomy to award those competent and responsible teachers with honors

by naming them in their reports, and introducing their success experience in our sharing sessions. We can

keep on with our good work by lifting the intrinsic drive and potential of teachers in our team. Setting

minimum target for each teacher group that can be achievable. Give teachers the necessary consideration

and support.

It is recommended that teachers participate more actively in I.T. workshops on webpage construction

Panel members should be encouraged to refine their work in webpage design and exercise design in the

coming year. Immersion of language objectives into subject objectives seems necessary with the

implementation of our plan to include EMI aims.

Sustainable development in our teaching profession of Subject Panels can be maintained as an ongoing

drive for improvement. The school institution framework to include more opportunity for professional

sharing among teachers of different co-lesson planning groups can be maintained while Panel Heads can

exercise their autonomy to have their objectives tailor-made within the confines of the school.

New teachers teaching those curriculums which had been prepared by co-lesson planning groups should

be the first who benefited from our work; they should be given the relevant collective wisdom before

their teaching. More sharing of the co-lesson planning work by various panels would be helpful to

consolidate our teaching strategies.

Priority Task 2: To build up harmonious campus life with Love and Care

Achievements

In order to enhance the teacher-student relationship and build up class cohesion, teachers meet their

students in groups or individually in the whole year in order to understand their problems in different areas,

such as studies, friendship or family. From the meetings, teachers understood more about their students and

gave appropriate advice to them. In addition, a number of inter-class activities were successfully held in

this school year. These include rope-skipping competition for Form One, video-production competition for

Form Two, religious and moral competition for Form Three, experiential-learning presentation competition

for Form Four and debate competition for Form Five. The feedbacks on the participation of the students

were good.

In order to enhance student achievement and provide them with more experiences, different kinds of

clubs and interest classes were arranged. For example, Athletic Club, Board Games Class, Computer

Assembly Class, LEGO Robot Programming Class, German Bridge Class, Lego Class, Soft Volleyball

Class, Spanish Class, Board Game Class and different Instrumental Classes, etc. Students will have more

opportunities to participate and allow them to discover their own interests and potentials.

Experiential Learning in Inspiration Lake for Form One was held in May. Different tasks and worksheets

were designed for them to finish. Students were engaged in the exploration activity by using i-Pad.

Different talks and activities were arranged in the Form Teacher Periods in order to help students

internalize positive values, develop positive attitude towards difficulties and nurture their personal growth.

For example, a Perseverance Talk organized by Guidance and Counseling Team was held in November

Page 14: School Report (2014-15) - 聖母無玷聖心書院 · PDF fileThrough the example of BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in the LIFE of JESUS, ... Under the management of the IMC, ... group which

- P.13 -

2014 for all Form Two students. Two guest speakers from Hong Kong Physically Handicapped and

Able-Bodied Association were invited. They shared their experiences of how they developed their positive

attitude towards difficulties. In addition, Big Brother and Sister Scheme aimed to provide peer support for

Form One students when the Guidance Prefects discussed growth and adjustments issues with their lower

forms through various activities and small group gatherings.

Different Careers-related activities were arranged by Careers Team for different form levels. From the

activities, students obtained exposure to various working fields. For example, sharing of working

experiences by Alumni in Careers Day for Form Four and Form Five students helped them to facilitate

their career development. Moreover, different talks about JUPAS application, JUPAS selection and

interview skills were arranged for Form Six students to acquire a better understanding of themselves and

their future path.

A Life Planning Programme for all Form One to Form Two students was organized by Careers Team. The

progamme aimed to help our students to understand the importance of developing oneself in the aspects of

academic pursuit, interpersonal relationship, and generic skills. The students were expected to formulate

short and medium term goals, plan actions, review them and do reflection on their implementation.

Furthermore, it helped to equip them with the knowledge, skills and positive attitudes to identify the

direction for their growth and help them play a positive role in life.

In order to enhance the responsibilities of students and share their love & care for the society, we provided

many opportunities for different forms of students on servicing the community. For example, the “DIY

Flower” selected in the activity of “Hong Kong Citizen Hong Kong Heart” was made by all Form One

students, with the help of OLE Committee and Art Club. In addition, a voluntary service session was held

by Parent and Teacher Association and Social Worker in January, 2015. Teachers, parents and students

visited the elderly with the “DIY Flower” and some gifts.

Moreover, all Form Three and Form Four students have the opportunities to plan and organize the activity

of Caritas Bazaar on 16th November, 2014. This activity enriched the learning experiences of the students.

They were responsible for setting up and running the game booth. They were also awarded for the First

Runner-up of the Game Stall Design Competition.

All Form Five students join the “Flag Selling Activity” on 7th February, 2015. They have a reflection on

the Student Award Scheme after the activity. We also organized after-school tutorial classes for primary

students from IHMS. This tutorial service brought joy not only to the ones “being served”, but also the

ones who serve. Our student tutors were confident and caring and the primary students were eager to

learn and they did pay attention to the lesson.

Volunteering Talks in Form Teacher Periods for different forms of students were arranged in September.

The Talks were successfully introduced the objectives of youth volunteer leadership: confidence, care,

commitment and courage. Some Form Four students voluntarily came to join the leadership camp

introduced in the Talk. Some previous committee members were also invited to share their volunteering

services to schoolmates during the talk.

Moreover, all Form Four students gained some life experience in the community. They were arranged to

visit “Dialogue in the Dark”, South-Asian families, poor households and a special school. The visits

heightened students’ awareness about the less fortunate and the less privileged. Quality work was displayed

in the presentation competition afterwards.

Evaluation on the Usage of Various Grants

1. With the various government grants provided for the school, students’ exposures and opportunities have

been increased.

2. With the recruitment of part-time tutors, more work has been done to support the weaker students in their

studies. This has increased their academic confidence especially those in the lower forms.

3. The employment of the drama coach has helped reduce the workload of the teacher-in-charge. At the

same time, the table-tennis coach has also raised the confidence of the team members.

4. The school will continue to make use of the various grants in these areas to facilitate students’ development

and reduce teachers’ workload.

Students from the Student Union, Guidance & Counselling Team and Disciplinary Team were arranged to

visit the Jockey Club Hong Chi Sun Chui Workshop. Our students planned and designed a variety of

activities for the students with special needs. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to interact with

children with different abilities and they could know more about the less fortunate in the community.

Reflection

In these few years, the increased inter-classes competitions, lunchtime activities and interest classes exerted

a positive influence to enhance students’ sense of belonging to the school. The Facebook platform

strengthens the communication between the House Committee and the members.

“Billboard of better achievement” gave recognition to those students with good performance. They served

as examples for their counterparts.

Different community services were well organized for students. All students had the opportunities to show

their love and care to the needy. It gave them a better understanding of the less fortunate in the community

and helped them increase their empathy for others. Furthermore, it might help them to develop a higher

sense of responsibility to the society and become a more caring person in their future.

With the efforts of all teachers, the result of APASO in the school year 2014-2015 in several areas of

“Negative Affect”, “Opportunities” and “Teacher-student Relationship” were improved. For the results of

“Opportunities”, appropriate career-related activities held for different forms of students could help them to

have good preparation for their future. The life planning activities organized by Career Teams are useful to

students. The feedback from both the students and the teachers are good and it is planned that the activities

be extended to all Form One to Form Three students. For the results of “Teacher-student Relationship”,

the average value increased by about 5%. The strategy for regular teacher-student meetings could help to

enhance their relationship.

From the results of Stakeholder Survey, the percentage of students agreeing that “The school is intent on

fostering our leadership” was reduced. Furthermore, the percentage of teachers agreeing that “The school

provides enough opportunity to foster students’ leadership” also decreased. It indicates that the

performance of student leaders in these few years was not satisfactory. Moreover, referring to the feedback

given by teachers in the Planning and Evaluation Meeting, it is important to nurture our young leaders on

the campus. Therefore, it is important for us to develop the leadership potential of our students in the next

three-year development plan.
