Warming up 部分以情景对话的形式导出本单元的话题之一：英国英语与美国英语的异同，帮助学生了解英国人和美国人在用词上的差异，使他们认识到掌握这些差异的重要性，并能在平时学习中注意这类词的积累。 Listening 部分是一段 Brown 先生的独白，叙述了一位五十多岁的女房东如何喋喋不休对他讲规矩。材料中出现大量表示“请求”和“命令”的用语，材料要求学生以笔头记录的形式，转述房东太太的要求。这一设计把听和写两种技能结合在一起，这有助于提高学生通过听，获取有效信息的能力；同时在语言方面让学生通过“听”体验表示“请求”和“命令”的用语，并在写的实际中运用间接引语转述他人的请求。

部分先通过两段小对话让学生在口头上学习“请求”和“命令”两种类型的直接引语改成间接引语，并在笔头上落实、巩固。在此基础上，再让学生自编对话，先笔头，后口头，培养正确使用学生语言的能力。这样设计体现了 MMC(mechanical drill,meaningful drill,communicative drill) 语言操练模式，有层次地让学生体验如何向第三方转述对话内容。

Speaking

编者设计了两个问题，诱发学生思考、比

较各种语言（主要指母语和英语）的用途

进一步认识学习英语的重要性。

Pre-reading

是一篇说明文，它介绍了 English is really a language spoken all around the world 。全文分三段，各段的意思是： 1.More than 750 million people speak English as their native language or a second language;2. More than 750 million people learn English as a foreign language;3. English is the working language of most international organizations, trade and tourism.

Reading

设计了两种练习。第一类是三个问题，其

Post-reading

包括以下两部分：词汇部分设计了 8 个生词与英语解释的配对练习，旨在培养学生用英语解释生词的习惯及能力；语法项目是有关“请求”和“命令”用语的直接引语和间接引语的转换，具体包括三个步骤： 1 、学会区分、感悟“请求”和“命令”的语气； 2 、把表示“请求”和“命令”的间接引语转换直接引语； 3 、两个学生合作操练“ told us (not) to do” 和“ asked us (not) to do” ，这样既训练学生的合作学习，又机械操练情景化和生活化。

Language study

包括 1 、阅读训练：通过阅读一篇泛读材料，了解英国英语和美国英语产生差异的历史文化背景； 2 、读和写训练：先是一段范文，展示说明文体裁的段落结构—主题句、说明句、事实列举等；在语言方面显示结构多样性；在信息内容方面与本单元主题相一致。然后要求学生根据范文，就“英国英语和美国英语差异”或“汉语方言差异”写一段类似文字。这样设计的目的在于帮助学生从理性到感性，提高对英语和汉语方言知识的认识，并且通过实践逐步提高说明文写作的水平。

Integrating Skills

就如何在口头交际发生困难作出应变提供了一些交际策略，主要包括语言和行为两方面，提高学生英语口语交际能力。

Tips

Checkpoint 2通过学生自评方式，帮助他们简要总结本单元的语法重点：表示“请求”和“命令”句的两种引语之间的相互转换。本小结部分还鼓励学生自我总结本单元出现的新的表达方式，提倡学生的自我发现能力以及对新的语言现象的敏感性。

Main aimMain aim ： Get the students to realize that there are some differences between American English and British English.

To grade my language further, reduce my teacher talking time and learn more names of the students.

Anticipated difficulties &solutions:

1.Listening and writing,using reported requests ,confusion with personal pronoun exchange;

2.When we report a yes/no question we use a reporting clause followed by a clause beginning with either if or whether. We usually put the subject before the verb in the wh- ,if/whether-clause,which the students may not always know.

peg:a small stick of hook which sticks out from a surface and from which objects, especially clothes,can hang: He took off his coat/hat and hung it on the peg.

Teaching procedure:

Step1:Lead in /Introduction:

Show the students the objects , a cloth towel and a paper towel, elicit ,drill and write “tower” on the blackboard.

1. Look at the picture on Page8 and and ask the question: What does bathroom mean in American English and British English?

2. Read the dialogue in the text and answer the question:in America English ,it means “toilet”and in British English it means “a place for some people to take a shower”.

4. Practice:Read and act out the dialogue,then introduce some more words that have different meanings in the two languages.

Step3:Pre-listening:Show students a photo taken in London and tell them the woman in the middle is my landlady when I studied in London,elicit the word “tenant”, a person who pays rent for the use of land or a building. And I was the tenant.concept check: Does a tenant pay the landlady?(Y) Who owns the house ,the landlady or the tenant?(the landlady).Drill “tenant” and write it on the blackboard Show the picture on page9. Step4:Listening

1. Short dialogues with the students as an example to use reported requests or commands:

2.Listening:

Now we’re going to listen to a dialogue between Mr. Brown and his landlady who has many house rules. And you have to write down five of them, using the reported forms.
