( 教學相長 )

Motivation

2nd semester,93 A total of five 2 PhD + 3 Master students Writing in the technical fields (a book published by IEEE)

First class

small group, small wonder Maturity simple goal; helping student to write thesis and paper

Interest of this class

1st paper accepted by JAP(IF:2.87) in 94

2nd and 3rd accepted by APL(IF:4.27) in 94 and 95

What I have after a year

Dear Dr. Wan,

One of the graduate students working with American Journal Experts has recently read your article "Nanopillar transistors exhibiting single-electron quantum effects at room temperature" in Applied Physics Letters. He found your paper while reading the literature for his field, and was impressed by the quality of the research and the thought behind your article. He suggested we contact you because you published from a country where English is not the primary spoken language.

Best Regards,

American Journal ExpertsWww.journalexperts.com

Comment from oversee

Dear Dr.  Wan,

We are writing to you because we recently read your paper "Nanopillar transistors exhibiting single-electron quantum effects at room temperature" in Applied Physics Letters. Your paper was listed in the references in a manuscript we were editing, and your email was listed as the corresponding author. We would like to congratulate you on your publication.

We have attached a sample of an article from our newsletter for you to look at.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,Paul Kretchmer, Ph.D.++++++++++++++++

Another one

Useful tips from

94,95 After-work master program

A total of 20 students same textbook

More classes

opportunities to talk/speak English

learn something about writing

comfortable environment guarantee post-class-serve

Interests of student

Students feedback

Teaching all-english class is… something new

It is better to be in graduate school (Microelectromechanical sensors) 93-95

Smaller class is easier than a large one

Targeting on the subject familiar to students

Bringing custom habit to them

Notes for such class

Training graduate-student to do oral presentation in international conference

Teaching undergraduates… is not easy

Freshmen in I-Shou they are young they are agile (hard to concentrate)

they know very limited words, but they have to study quite a lot (general physics and etc…

they know not much about you

Pre-class preparation experience from colleague can help

carefully choose textbook set goal achievable (+300-500 words)

be ready to face chaos

In-class action

be friend with them try to remember each of them set your rules clearly (no phone ringing and etc...)

control pace,control temper

Something fun

breaking them into teams choose team leader to help you

team discussion and competition is fun

Record shows

Mixed feeling there is an old saying “past profit has no guarantee in the future”. 基金經理人的名言”過去績效並不保證未來收益” .

I guess “teaching is a job that never gratifies yourself”.

Thanks for your attention and… comments are welcomed義守大學電子工程學系副教授 萬裕民
