Arcadia Unified’s Citizens’ Oversight Committee is an advisory group comprised of residents, parents and community members who meet quarterly to review the District’s bond expenditures and ensure that bond funding is solely spent on purposes outlined in the Measure I plan. Furthermore, the Citizens’ Oversight Committee communicates its findings to the Board of Education and to the public.

Arcadia Unified would like to extend a big thank you to the District’s Measure I Facilities Team, which has been instrumental in executing the vision of the Board of Education and the community. Due to their hard work, diligence and dedication, Arcadia Unified is delivering quality projects that were promised to this community.

Citizens’ Oversight Committee Special Thanks to Our Facilities Team

Dear Arcadia Unified Community,

As you drive by our District’s campuses, you will notice some wonderful changes due to the renovation of our facilities and construction of new buildings. We are sending this brochure to keep our community updated and informed about all of the great work that has been achieved with Arcadia Unified’s $218 million Bond Measure I, passed by voters in November 2006.

The creation of these engaging, high-tech and appealing new learning environments would not have been possible without this community’s gracious support.

Many of our facilities are more than 50 years old. By upgrading school technology, science labs and classrooms, improving school libraries and renovating arts and music education classrooms, we are ensuring that our children have the tools they need to excel, while supporting our students’ competitive edge and enhancing our neighborhood schools.

We have made it our top priority to be good stewards of the funding that our community granted us, and have ensured that every dollar has gone toward high-quality craftsmanship that will stand the test of time at each of our schools.

As we enter the third and final phase of construction, we want to emphasize that every commitment was kept. Every project on our capital improvement list is being completed. This accomplishment is due to our diligent and dedicated Board of Education and facilities team, as well as our Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The AUSD program has served both taxpayers and students well due to the District’s meticulous review of finances, optimization of matching funds and grants and the ongoing oversight of construction contracts and timelines.

I want to extend my gratitude to all those who were instrumental in helping to pass this measure, including former Superintendent Mimi Hennessy, both former and current AUSD Board of Education members and those in our community who rallied support behind our District. I also want to recognize each and every voter who said Yes! I support my schools.

These are exciting times for education in Arcadia Unified, and we truly thank you for your investment in our schools for the benefit of our entire community and students for generations to come. Sincerely, Joel Shawn, Ed.D. Superintendent

This equipment can be controlled by individual sites or from the District Office, as appropriate. Several schools have already received these exciting updates in Fall 2013.

FENCING: When Arcadia Unified began renovating campuses District-wide, it also built fencing at school sites to enhance security for students, staff and the community. These single-point entries provide better visitor oversight and improved control of overall campus ingress and egress.
