Adam Butcher Bradley Manning Had Secrets

Adam Butcher’s film is ‘a superb marriage of form and content’ (cartoonbrew.com) which tells the story of Bradley Manning : not as a Wikileaks

‘hacktivist’, but as a young American soldier simultaneously going through a crisis-of-conscience and a crisis-of-identity. Butcher has used transcripts

of the online conversations which the jailed US soldier Bradley Manning had with Adrian Lamo, offering a compelling portrait of the individual

responsible for one of the biggest security leaks in recent history. The animation was created by rotoscoping live action footage at a very low

resolution.

Lizzie Hughes Fountain (zoom)

A slow zooming shot of a particularly exuberant fountain was filmed - beginning from the far distance and stopping when it reached full frame, before

immediately zooming back out again. The resulting footage was divided into just over 3,700 still frames and each of these images digitally manipulated so that

the size of the fountain within the frame of the screen remains constant for the duration of the film.

Lizzie Hughes was born and grew up in Anglesey before moving to London, graduating from The Slade School of Fine Art.

Glenn Ibbitson Archive and Consignment

‘Archive’ confronts issues of artistic motivation: ‘…re visiting the activity of creativity while simultaneously accepting that this same activity is essentially an

exercise in futility’. The film is a reflection on the potential fate of the artist’s output; it incorporates a backing soundtrack of Ibbitson’s mother, who devoted her

creative energies to her family, singing a popular classic.

‘Consignment’ is part of an on going multi-media project around the theme of human trafficking and extraordinary rendition. ‘Boxed, labelled, despatched. Units

in batches; the objectification of subject matter, where humanity is reduced to mere commodity.’

After many years spent as a BBC and freelance scenographer and scene painter, Glenn Ibbitson works as a professional painter and film-maker,

based in west Wales.

Mae ‘Archive’ yn wynebu’r cwestiwn o symbyliad artistig: ‘…yn ail-ymweld â’r weithred o fod yn greadigol tra’n derbyn ar yr un pryd bod y weithred hon yn un

ofer yn y bôn.’ Mae’r ffilm yn fyfyrdod ar deyrnged debygol gwaith yr artist; mae’n cynnwys trac sain yn y cefndir yn nodweddu mam Ibbitson, a ymroddodd ei

hegni creadigol i’w theulu, yn canu clasur poblogaidd.

Mae ‘Consignment’ yn rhan o brosiect parhaol, aml-gyfrwng yn seiliedig ar thema masnachu dynol a dehongliad eithriadol. ‘Wedi eu gosod mewn blychau, eu

labelu a’u hanfon. Unedau mewn sypiau; deunydd materol yn cael ei wrthrychioli, lle mae dynoliaeth yn cael ei diraddio’n nwydd.’

Ar ôl llawer o flynyddoedd yn gweithio fel senograffydd a phaentiwr golygfeydd i’r BBC ac ar ei liwt ei hun, mae Glenn Ibbitson yn gweithio fel paentiwr a

gwneuthurwr ffilm proffesiynol yng ngorllewin Cymru.

James Lowne Our relationships will become radiant

Three narratives unfold together. Inside a vast nature reserve, executives hold an important meeting in a café. Outside in the park, people enjoy the

day; meanwhile, the dormant wildlife fades away. James Lowne manipulates his images with ease, exploring the effects of posing a subject or

capturing gestures from different angles.

Artist James Lowne lives and works in London, graduating from Central Saint Martins. His work incorporates computer generated imagery, drawing

and sound to create figures, objects and text within a shared space, often exploring themes of networked social relations in an environment of

corporate services, advertising and consumerism.

Matilda Tristram Five Year plan

An abstract comedy for devices such as iPhones or iPads, using emoji, Japanese text message character pictures. This playful film attempts to

connect the symbols and to celebrate the unpredictable, moving, funny and complicated nature of communication and understanding in an

appreciation of emoji’s arbitrary nature.

Matilda Tristram graduated in animation from the Royal College of Art. She has worked as a writer and developer for Ragdoll Productions and

as a director and animator on music videos and virals as well as on her own films.
