The Chalkboard The Newsletter from Narrabeen North Public School Week 7, Term 4 Thursday, 24 November, 2011 From the Principal’s Desk…. Principal Award Recipients for Week 7 – Congratulations to Charlie Davis 6W; Mackaylla Watkin 6W; Lakeshia Stewart 6W; Ella Donohoe 6D; Natasha Robert-Hanning 6D; Maeve Donohoe 6D; Jade Conaty 6D; Daniel Vavich 6D; Lachlan McGreal 6D; Hayley Creed 5B; Zander Smit 4OM; Zilla Gilmour 4OM; Kara Meth 4OM; Lisa Boksjo 4OM;Joshua Yakich 3M; Tia Robetson 3T; Zach Couper 3M; Skye Prosser 3M; Joel Perrin 3/4S; Sebastian Bradely 3/4S; Cille Schliebitz 3/4S; Morganne Speirs 2AJ; Max Holstegge 2H; Jamie Palangio 2H; Dylan Coutts 2H; Ben Couper 1P; Jacob Murray 1M; Mack Waller 1M; Lennox Varney 1M; Mitch Harker 1M; Isabelle Clarke KW; Jett Hodgson KW; Sabine O’Leary KW; Valentina Bradley KW; Will Day KW; Sarah Palangio KW; Holly Merritt KA; Finn Wilcock KA; Archie Earland KY and Rocky Young KW.. Well done, everyone! N.B. Due to the wet weather and the cancellation of our regular assemblies, these awards were presented to the students during the week in class. What’s on the box? What an amazing dance concert!! It was a delight to be an audience member and see the wonderful performances of our talented students. Every class can be very proud of their fine achievements. The costumes were spectacular, the staging great and the hall decorations spot on! Our student comperes and quiz show contestants also did a fantastic job; we are so proud of you all! Thank you to our parents for so much assistance in so many ways – we can’t do it without your help! Congratulations, to everyone involved. Proposed stop work deferred The stop work meeting called by the NSW Teachers Federation, originally planned for Tuesday, 29 November has been deferred to a future date. Classes will proceed as usual next Tuesday. Annual School Report surveys Many thanks to the families who completed the online surveys for the 2011 ASR. There were 30 responses to the parent satisfaction survey, 30 responses to the parent teaching survey and 27 responses to the parent PDHPE survey. The surveys are now closed. Results and findings will be published in the 2011 ASR which is expected to be released by May next year. Thank you! Wet weather planning I noticed on the wet mornings recently that many students walked into the playground without any form of rain protection at all – no raincoats and no umbrellas! To move about our school in the rain can be tricky without a raincoat as we do not have covered ways to the canteen, toilets, library and other classrooms. Dear parents, please ensure that your child has a raincoat or umbrella on wet days at school. Thank you. NBISC car parking issues I was contacted on Wednesday by the Management of the NBISC to be informed that sadly some NNPS parents are still ignoring car park rules and endangering the safety of the community for their own convenience reasons. On Wednesday morning four parents parked in the disabled car spots and two more in the spots reserved for NBISC staff and then went away, possibly to Centro for long periods of time. What’s on in the PCS this week? Week beginning 21/11/2011

Congratulations to Year 12 of 2011 who have now completed their HSC. Students will be looking forward to receiving their results early in December.

With the School Certificate finished many of the Year 10 students are out and about participating in fabulous Work Experience placements.

The long awaited First Lego League Tournament “Food Factor” will be held at Narrabeen Sports High this week. Students, their coaches and mentors are travelling from around NSW to participate in the Regional competition. 6 teams will be invited through to the National Tournament being held at Macquarie University in early December. Many thanks to the staff and students of Narrabeen Sports High for accommodating this fabulous event.

The PCS Robots are making their final stop for the year at Narrabeen North and Cromer. Students and staff in our PCS schools have enjoyed the challenge of programming and creative problem solving the robots bring to the classroom.

The Peninsula Community of Schools has been extremely fortunate to have had Jann Pattinson working closely with staff and students over the last few years as one of the PCS Coordinators. Ms Pattinson has been inspirational with her commitment to ongoing improvement of teaching and learning through a comprehensive professional learning program for PCS staff and also providing many enrichment opportunities to students in the PCS. Ms Pattinson has accepted a new role as Principal of Davidson High School where she is looking forward to the next part of her professional journey. Thank you for your dedication and enrichment of the PCS learning environment. Congratulations and best wishes on your new adventure.

Year 6 students are enjoying their last weeks of Primary School, as High Schools are preparing for Year 7 Orientation Day and welcoming you to your new school for 2012. Kindergarten Orientations have been finalised with Kindergarten students for 2012 ready to begin their schooling next year.

an embarrassing situation of having to apologise on behalf of NNPS drivers. NBISC staff have recorded the licence plate numbers of these vehicles and may forward this information to council rangers if it reoccurs. Drivers, please do not abuse the parking privileges provided to us so kindly by the NBISC. N.B. During evening school events parking is generally NOT AVAILABLE in the NBISC car park. The centre is heavily used most evenings and after 4pm, parking is for NBISC events only. By special arrangement, the NBISC may open the ‘overflow’ parking area near Jacksons Rd for school event parking. Sentences of the week – guest class 6D The incredibly frightened student, who was on detention, somehow managed to squeeze in three words to his guilty-looking friend about punching, Billy the Bully, in the head at lunchtime, while he wrote “don’t be a bad school citizen” 100 times. John Gaul. As I stared at the wholemeal organic salad sandwich, my mouth watered. I raised the sandwich to my mouth, and the sweet taste of beetroot, tomato and juicy cucumber flooded my mouth, like a flock of geese flying towards the everlasting sun. Blake Williams. It was Wednesday night and Maxine Riddle announced another correct answer as Simple Simon stormed off. Truly blonde was winning “What’s on the box?”. Kate McKay. Robert Blanchfield

CANTEEN NEWS The canteen has donated 2 footballs, 2 basketballs, a soccer ball pump and skipping ropes to the school from collected points from our milk and dairy supplier.
