    Intent

I am currently employed in a Clinical Biochemistry lab attached to a hospital. Working in a clinical lab has given me opportunity tolearn every day, apart from giving vocational experience. The learning experience is exceptional and has added a practical angle totheoretical knowledge that I have as a masters student in Medical Biochemistry. In my previous assignments, I have brief exposureto techniques and methodologies that are customarily practiced in protein chemistry and protein crystallography. I wish to extend mybasic, canonical practical knowledge into a speciality with adequate training.Interestingly, proteins are involved in most pathologies, like prion disease or acute phase proteins in sepsis, liver diseases. Study ofproteins in these conditions will help in better understanding of the pathophysiological bases, apart from assessing progression, prognosis and diagnosis of a disease. With my background, I think, projects overlapping on clinically important protein would beexciting. Kindly write to me if my profile and experience suits your preference. Working in a well suited project at Jena is desirablecareer path.

Research Experience- May 2011 to June 2012

Project title: Expression, Purification and Crystallization of Hydra MagnipapillataGlyceraldehyde-3-phosphate Dehydrogenase

Position: Junior Research Fellow [JRF],Dr.Ramasawamy Subramanian lab,InSTEM, National Center for Biological Sciences [ncbs].

Background:Hydra Magnipapillata is a unique eukaryote endowed with capacity to regenerate. However the molecular mechanism

responsible for regeneration in Hydra is less understood. The evolutionary development and significance of regeneration again ismixed across the phylogenetic tree. We propose to identify certain important antioxidant enzymes in Hydra (proteins that arereleased in response to oxidative stress) and study them from a structural perspective. Studying the crystal structures of antioxidantproteins would help in better characterization of the protein and their role in initiating regeneration and ageing process in general.Basically the focus of my project is to establish a link between antioxidant proteins and regenerative ability in Hydra. If there iscontrasting difference in structure function relationship between Hydra protein and their human counterpart. Then it would addressan even big question as to how regeneration as a phenomenon has evolved through phylogeny.
