Turn your bathroom into a relaxing oasis(StatePoint) Time spent in the bathroom can be precious, as it may be your only solo time. When prioritizing home up-grades, consider first transforming a ho-

privacy decorative glass windows and privacy acrylic block windows offered from Hy-Lite are design elements that don’t compromise natural light. Available in four designer frame colors, you can go beyond plain frosted glass with stylish windows that come either operable or fixed in place. Offered in varying shapes and sizes, it’s easy to match windows to other bathroom elements, such as tiles and countertops.

Take your spa retreat a step further by piping music into your bathroom with hu-midity-resistant speakers unsusceptible to steamy showers and hot baths.

BeautyEven on a limited budget, you can give the bathroom an elegant long-term face-lift by investing in millwork products that resist humidity so you don’t experience warping. From crown moulding to trim around showers and bathtubs to ceiling medallions, polyurethane is a practical material for these design elements. It’s lightweight, easy to install, and most im-portantly, designed to resist the humidity of bathing.

To get the look of a luxury hotel, the experts at Fypon, producer of pieces of polyurethane millwork, moulding and trim in a variety of architectural styles,

hum, conventional bathroom into an oasis of comfort, style and ultimate relaxation.

RelaxReplace outdated fixtures with new top-quality options that offer greater functionality. Manufacturers such as Mansfield Plumbing, produce fixtures and fittings designed to work in tandem. Such “suites” of a toilet, sink and bathtub can improve the look of a bathroom setting.

There are certain features to seek in a toilet. A SmartHeight toilet allows for easier access. For those who are environ-mentally conscious or looking for a pock-etbook-friendly option, seek out a Wa-terSense rated toilet, signifying greater water conservation.

When it comes to relaxation, the bath-tub is king. Luckily, manufacturers are innovating features to go beyond whirl-pools. New bathtub offerings include chromatherapy mood light systems, ther-motherapy heated backrests and in-line heaters that keep water heated perfectly.

RetreatMake your bathroom the perfect retreat from the rest of the house and the out-side world with a few stylish accents that provide greater solitude. For example,

recommend a few project ideas:• Install a set of pilasters on both sides of your shower stall and a door crosshead overhead to upgrade your bathroom’s look.• Surround mirrors and decorative accent windows with painted or stained polyure-thane mouldings that complement the room.• Install chair rail moulding around the bathroom to add dimension. Paint above or below the moulding and use wallpaper, paneling or a different color paint in the other section.

Success tips for DIY painting(BPT) - Painting projects are more popu-lar than ever with do-it-yourselfers with 94 percent planning a painting project in 2015, according to a Sherwin-Williams survey of homeowners. DIYers are also planning their painting projects earlier in the year, to upgrade homes with color.

A fresh coat of paint in the right color can quickly transform the look and feel of any space. To help choose the perfect color for your space, take advantage of the easy-to-use color selection tools available to help you find and try colors before you paint. Homeowners can use the online Color Vi-sualizer, for example, to virtually paint a space and try on different color combina-tions, making it easy to choose colors with confidence.

For added color inspiration, consider the 2015 Sherwin-Williams color of the year: Coral Reef, described by the survey respondents as “cheerful,” “upbeat” and “energizing.”

“A mix of pink, orange and red, Sher-win-Williams Coral Reef embodies the ap-proach to design that we’re seeing for the coming year,” says Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Its unexpected versatility brings life to a range of design aesthetics, whether

traditional, vintage, cottage or contempo-rary. For a more relaxed look, it can also be paired with earthy neutral colors such as slate grays, medium-brown wood tones such as driftwood, and metallic finishes to complement its garden hue.”

For durability and washability, choose a semi-gloss paint. Semi-gloss is a good option for areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, as well as trim. For high-traffic areas, like a hallway or a child’s bedroom, satin and egg-shell paints are preferred as the finish is easy to clean and maintain. High gloss paints are also extremely dura-ble and easy to clean, making them perfect for windows, doors and trim. For spaces that have something to hide, a flat finish will work to your advantage.

When planning your painting project, also consider the order in which you paint your space. Start with the ceiling, followed by the walls. If two coats of paint are need-ed, finish both coats before moving to the next step. Then, paint the windows from top to bottom. After the windows, paint the baseboards, trim and doorframe. Finally, paint the door. Following this order will help ensure a smoother painting process and will require fewer cleanups.
