導演的老家荃蔴河村曾因種植罌粟而繁榮，其後因禁種令而沒落，村民紛紛搬離，或到中國打工。他回到家鄉拍片，尋找朋友選擇留下來的原因。

The director’s hometown, the village of Quan Ma He, once prospered thanks to farming of poppy flower. With the ban on poppy flowers farming, workers started to leave this declining town or went to China to look for work. In his film, Lee returned to his hometown to find out why his friends chose to stay.

李永超，緬甸出生，入選第七屆台北金馬電影學院，作品包括《挖洞子》、《帕敢青年》及《血琥珀》，入圍多個國際影展。

Myanmar-born Lee Yong Chao joined the 7th Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy. His works include: Hpakant Jade Life, Jade Man and Blood Amber.

The role each person plays in a family changes over time. The film captures the nuances in the life of the director’s mother now a caregiver to her own mother with dementia. Raised as a child by her grandmother, the director realises her grandmother has now become the ‘child’ in need of care in the family.

張洵畢業於香港城市大學創意媒體學院，曾參與拍攝及剪輯《古巴花旦》及《紅色搖滾》等紀錄長片。

Eugene Zhang, Xun received a Master degree in Media Cultures at the City University of Hong Kong. He participated in the production of Havana Divas and Red Rock.

六十年代臺灣傳奇禁歌〈塩埕區長〉盛載高雄花街的風月傳奇，本片探索這首歌以及歌中主角郭萬枝的故事，刻劃一個紛亂的時代。

The Chief of Yancheng District is a legendary banned Taiwanese song from the 1960s, about the red light district in Kaohsiung. Through studying the song’s lyrics and the story of the song’s protagonist , Guo Wan Chi, the film depicts life in a volatile era.

盧彥中曾擔任配樂，現為影像工作者。創作多關於臺灣土地之獨特人物、體制外藝術家，與臺灣野史。

Adiong Lu is now an independent documentary filmmaker. Lu’s works focus on Taiwanese history.

In the end, the parents decided to let their children continue studying in this high-risk area. The film is an attempt to shed light on how and whether this decision is influenced by Liu Qing’s “propaganda” publication Kisses and Reports.

Lao Wang is one of the tens of thousands of fishermen living in Wuhan’s Nan'anzui by the Yangtze River. Living in his boat, catching fishes the traditional way and moving “home” according to the river tide, Lao Wang’s almost extinct way of living is documented in Amphibian Man.

Lao Su has been a drifter for the past 30 years, making a living in different provinces. Now in his old age, as he returns to his hometown with his girlfriend, he finds himself in a village he now barely knows and his past sins of having abandoned his ex-wife and daughter catch up on him.

潘志琪畢業於北京電影學院，現任教於浙江傳媒學院電視藝術學院。作品包括《偵探》、《迷藏》、及《天堂花園》。

Two abandoned babies adopted by a nunnery have grown up. The older girl is now in puberty and is infatuated with earthly temptations. Conflict arises as an elderly nun loses hold over her young protégée. At the same time, pressure mounts as the temple needs to raise funds for its expansion. Peace eludes the residents of this nunnery.

The increasing commercialisation of medical services has resulted in fewer options for child birth. Pregnant mothers are losing their say. Labour induction and cesarean sections are fast becoming a norm. But some organisations in Taiwan are starting to advocate natural birth, giving women more autonomy about their motherhood.

Visible Record organises different kinds of courses to develop documentary-making talents. Visible Record shorts's showcase eight graduation works including Master in Long Valley, Sealing Life, The Awaken Lions, Granny, Doorway and Meeting Mr. Li. The topics have one thing in common - they depict the nuances of life for different elderly people and enlighten the audience on what life is like for Hong Kong's elderly. Under the Rainbow describes the bittersweet sense of community among the old shops in the aging Choi Hung Housing Estate; Central resembles a beautiful symphony inspired by the city. All these short films carry with them a strong local sentiment.

Filipino domestic helper Calsas is the founder of the baseball team “Heavy Duty”. She and her Filipino teammates rule the field during their off-days and win not only games, but also confidence.

王沖霄畢業於遼寧大學新聞專業，先後任職於遼寧電視台和中央電視台，廿年來主要從事紀錄片創作，拍攝過多部以歷史文化和體育為題的紀錄片。

Wang Chongxiao, graduated from School of Journalism and Communication, Liaoning University, has worked for Liaoning Television and then for CCTV. He has been engaged in documentary filmmaking for 20 years, focusing on historical, cultural and sports topics.

2019年7月7日香港尖沙咀，遊行人士水洩不通，年輕人用「自己的方式」向內地自由行表達香港人的訴求。

On July 7, 2019, Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui was packed with people joining the rally, with the young using their “individual ways” to let mainland visitors know about Hong Kong people’s demands.

廖潔雯畢業於嶺南大學文化研究系，曾製作雨傘運動紀錄片《義載》及《義載2》。《用自己方式的時代》是她於反修訂逃犯條例運動拍攝的首部紀錄短片。

Kanas Liu graduated in Cultural Studies from the Lingnan University. She produced two documentaries about the Umbrella Movement : Van Drivers and Van Drivers 2. Her work The Time of the Individual is her first documentary short about the movement of anti-extradition bill.

Ma Yan Yan studied Media and Social Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her works always focus on ordinary people escaping notice, such as children with special education needs and the homeless elderly. Through video documentaries, she hopes to voice the unnoticed.

Fortunately, a group of volunteers led by a local pastor show them there are still some who care and are willing to lend a helping hand.

When a young man suddenly killed himself by leaping off the apartment building where his former schoolmate lived, his friends were thrown into a state of confusion. In a series of interviews, each of them finally finds the chance to let out previously suppressed emotions.

林亦畢業於香港恒生大學傳播學院，曾任職記者，現為製作人，並專注於紀實攝影。

Lam Yik graduated from the School of Communication, the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. Previously a reporter, she is now a producer, and currently focuses on documentary photography and video production.

Through organising a reading of Palestinian works among a group of renowned Jewish and Palestinian writers, the director hopes to enhance the mutual understanding between the two groups and ease the tension faced by the Palestinian community.

Amos Gitai is an Israeli film director and screenwriter who was born in 1950 in Haifa. He studied architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1973, he fought in the Yom Kippur War, and it triggered him to start to create film. His works are mainly about the Middle-East conflict, and he has been nominated at Cannes, Venice, and other major film festivals.

The film follows a typical factory watchman as he goes about his daily routine at work and also asks about his views on current affairs. The man may be a low-level bureaucrat, but the fact that he wields almost unlimited power in his little domain is testament to the dysfunctional bureaucracy prevalent under the communist regime at the time.

Taking the perspective of an objective bystander, the film observes the activities inside Warsaw Central Railway Station: departing and returning passengers, inaudible whispers between travelers, a locker user studying the coin slot, bittersweet farewells between lovers – everything is captured by the closed-circuit TV system.

Krzysztof Kieślowski (1941-1996) was a Polish film director. He graduated from the National Film School in Łódź in 1968 and spent his early career making numerous documentaries. His first narrative feature film, The Scar, was released in 1976, and his subsequent works include Camera Buff (1979), Blind Chance (1987), Dekalog (1989), The Double Life of Veronique (1991) and the Three Colours trilogy (1993-4).

工廠小職員菲臘為了拍攝初生女兒而買了一部8毫米攝影機，因此被委派去拍攝工廠的活動。因為作品受到讚賞，他開始沉迷拍攝短片，但慢慢發現，拍電影不是導演一個人說了算，而是有的東西可拍，有的東西則一定不可拍。

After Philip, an ordinary factory worker, buys an 8mm camera to film his newborn daughter, he is soon tasked with filming various functions and events at the factory. His works are well received, and he begins to develop a passion for making short films. However, he soon discovers that in filmmaking not everything is decided by the director, and some subjects can be filmed while others are off-limits.

波蘭洛玆電影學院舉世知名，為全球其中一間最難考進去的電影學校，被視為電影界的「少林寺」。該校人才輩出，孕育了多位世界知名的導演。洛茲學院就連在校學生的作品水準都非常高，經常入選各地影展。本屆影展特別精選十四部不同年代的學生紀錄片放映，讓觀眾一睹這些難得一見的佳作，並邀請多位年輕導演來港，分享他們在學院中的歷練過程。

The internationally renowned National Film School in Łódź is often considered one of the most rigorous film schools in Poland and has over the years trained many of the most well-known directors in the world. Films made by students of the school, both narrative and documentary, are frequently showcased in film festivals around the world. We have selected 14 documentaries from different eras made by students of the school and have invited several young members of this group to join the Festival to share their experience with the school.

Students at a special school for the hearing and speech impaired in Wroclaw may express themselves differently from others, but they share the same emotions as everyone else and need to deal with the same issues, from cultural identity to gender relations.

水谷江里2009年於多摩美術大學畢業，及後於洛茲電影學院就讀。她現為戲劇工作坊導師。作品有《童言無聲》及《靜下來吧》等等。

Eri Mizutani graduated from Tama Art University, and after that, she studied at the Łódź Film School. She is now an instructor for some theatre workshops in Poland. Her works include Their Voices and Silence Please.

Rafał Skalski graduated from the Łódź Film School in 2009, majoring in Film and Television Directing. And now, he is a screenwriter and film director. His work 52 Percent was an award winner in many film festivals; including Best Documentary at Polish Independent Cinema Award.

本片為柏齊斯基掌鏡的得獎名作。三萬個猶太人聚集在位於烏克蘭的精神領袖墓地上，慶祝猶太新年。與此同時，當地極右團體在這裏樹立起十字架，以及歌頌哥薩克騎兵屠殺猶太人的紀念碑。

Petrycki is the cinematographer of this award-winning documentary. When thirty thousand Jews gather at the grave of their late spiritual leader in Ukraine to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, they face intimidation by local right-wing extremists who erected crosses to remind them of pogroms committed by Cossacks in the past.

科普斯基是位波蘭導演及作家，同時是華沙大學的講師。他曾製作不少電影，並於多個影展獲得過百獎項。

Krzysztof Kopczyński is a Polish filmmaker and author. He is also a lecturer of the University of Warsaw. He has produced many films and received more than 100 awards on different festivals.

一次大戰前的波蘭，醫生迷上乙醚的麻醉功效，後因姦不遂，誤殺少婦，結果被俄國沙皇發配西伯利亞。他逃離俄國加入奧匈帝國軍隊，不惜一切進行人體實驗。種種惡行，皆源自他和魔鬼的浮士德交易。

On the eve of the First World War, a medical doctor in Poland becomes obsessed with the anesthetic properties of ether and is linked to the death of a young woman. He is found guilty by the Tzar of manslaughter and is exiled to Siberia, but manages to escape and join the Austro-Hungarian army, where he carries out his deal with the devil by conducting experiments on live human subjects.

波蘭電影大師贊諾西的作品充滿了各種矛盾，他用理智與感情、秩序與混亂等各色衝突，營造出多部層次豐富、深度剖析人與社會的電影。是次講座，他會深入闡釋「矛盾」在電影以至其他敘事作品中扮演的重要角色。

The works of the world renowned Polish film director Krzysztof Zanussi are characterised by different kinds of contradictions. By contrasting reason versus emotion, order versus conflict, Zanussi’s films are full of deep reflections on humanity and the state of things in society. During this talk, he will elaborate on the important role of ‘conflict’ in films and other narrative works.

Petrycki was Kieślowski’s cinematographer for years and one of Kieślowski’s most important work partners. This screening will show three documentaries shot by Petrycki for Kieślowski. Jacek Petrycki is one of Poland's most accomplished cinematographers. He is Kieślowski's friend and cinematographer of his early works including Camera Buff (1979) and No End (1985). He has won enormous international awards. His works include: True Stories (1988), Günese Yolculuk (1999), Boisko bezdomnych (2008) and Poste restante (2009).

Krzysztof Zanussi is a Polish film director and screenwriter. He has been a lecturer at many European institutions including the Silesian University in Katowice. His first narrative feature film The Structure of Crystal was completed in 1969 and was followed by numerous narrative films and documentaries –– a body of work that is still growing today. Acclaimed works including: Family Life (1971), Camouflage (1977), The Constant Factor (1980) and A Year of the Quiet Sun (1984).

柏齊斯基1970年畢業於洛玆電影學院攝影系，其後一直與奇斯洛夫斯

基合作，拍攝紀錄片及劇情片，作品在世界各地獲獎無數。是次主持大

師班傳授攝影技巧，教導如何以影像說故事，如何透過構圖、景深、色

彩及攝影機移動來建立鏡頭的意義。課程內容除了課堂授課外，學員將

分成小組外出拍攝，柏齊斯基會每日分析素材，與學員討論，然後再反

覆練習。課程最後一天，學員要完成一段短片，兩個工作坊的學員會一

起觀看及討論拍攝成果。同時，為了令學員深入了解柏齊斯基的攝影風

格，學員要在影展期間觀看其作品。

After graduating from the Łódź Film School in 1970, Petrycki began collaborating with Kieślowski ever since and their international award-winning works have included documentaries and drama films. In this Masterclass, Petrycki will share the techniques of cinematography and how to tell a powerful story through images, how to create meaning through composition, depth of field, color and movement of the camera. Apart from class lectures, participants will go on location and film in groups. Petrycki will share his analysis of the topics daily and engage the participants in discussions before practising with the camera. On the last day of the course, the participants will need to make a one-minute film and the participants of the two workshops will watch and discuss their works together. Furthermore to enhance the participants’ understanding of Petrycki’s cinematography style, the course includes tickets to three screenings of Petrycki’s films shown in the Festival.
