It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 『Seoul Digital Summit 2017』 featuring new connections

and experiences, which is held to seek ways to resolve urban issues facing Seoul by using key digital

technologies in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In a new digital world, people are connected

more widely and comprehensively, meeting with new experiences. At this important juncture, where

the world is reshaped once again, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is holding a very meaningful

event together with its citizens, where digital business leaders and prominent figures from home and

abroad gather together to discuss collaboration between Seoul and global digital businesses and to

exchange opinions on Seoul’s digital policies. 『Seoul Digital Summit 2017』 is expected to serve as an

Nesta 대표Chief Executive of Nesta

제프 멀건은 2011년부터 영국 국립과학기술예술재단 (Nesta)의 대표 (Chief Executive)로 재직하고 있다. Nesta는

2012년 그의 주도 하에 공공부문을 떠나 독립 자선단체가 되어 투자, 연구 등 다양한 신규 사업들에 뛰어들었으며 영국

국내와 해외의 여러 재단, 정부, 기업들과 협력하는 새로운 전략을 추진하고 있다.

약 력

2004년부터 2011년까지 그는 영 재단 (Young Foundation)의 초대 대표로 일하면서 영 재단을 연구, 신규 벤처 및

현실적인 프로젝트 개발을 통해 사회 혁신을 주도하는 중심 기관으로 성장시켰다. 1997년에서 2004년까지는 영국

정부에서 전략담당 부서의 국장과 토니 블레어 총리실의 정책 총괄 등 다양한 직책을 역임했다. 그 전에는 싱크탱크인

데모스 (Demos)를 설립하고 소장으로 일했다. 또한 고든 브라운 전 총리가 의원 재직시 수석 자문을 맡기도 했으며

통신분야 강사, 투자담당 임원, BBC TV와 라디오의 기자로 활동하기도 했다.

그는 세계 여러 나라 정부에 자문을 제공하고 있다. 2013년에서 16년까지는 보리스 존슨 런던 시장 밑에서 런던의

과학기술을 총괄하는 런던 엔터프라이즈 패널 (London Enterprise Panel) 위원회의 공동의장을 역임했다. 또한 Work

Foundation, Big Society Capital, Health Innovation Council, Political Quarterly, Design Council, Atomium

Culture, Involve 등 다수의 단체에서 이사로 활동하고 있다. 국제단체인 Social Innovation Exchange, Studio

Schools Trust, Uprising, Action for Happiness의 공동설립자이자 이사로도 재직 중이다. 런던 정경대 (LSE),

UCL, 멜번 대학교에서 객원교수로 활동했으며 중국푸동간부학원 (China Executive Leadership Academy)에서도

정기적으로 강의를 하고 있다. 2015년부터 2018년까지는 하버드 대학교 케네디 스쿨의 애쉬 센터에서 선임 객원연구원

직을 수행 중이다.

제프 멀건은 2016년부터 새로 탄생한 세계경제포럼 그룹의 공동의장으로 4차 산업혁명기의 혁신과 기업가정신 분야를

탐색하고 있다. 그는 또 프랑스 정부의 디지털청 (French Digital Agency) 이사회, 의학연구원 (Academy of Medical

Science) 공중보건 평가위원회, 스코틀랜드 정부의 캔두 (CAN-DO) 패널, UAE 총리실 자문위원회에 참여하고 있으며

서울시 국제자문단의 위원장도 맡고 있다.

그의 최근 저서로는 ‘메뚜기와 벌 (The Locust and the Bee (Princeton University Press, 2013))’, ‘공공전략의

기술 - 공익을 위한 세력과 지식의 동원 (The Art of Public Strategy - Mobilising Power and Knowledge for the

Public Good (Oxford University Press, 2008))’, ‘선한 힘과 악한 힘: 정부의 이상과 배신 (Good and Bad Power:

the ideals and betrayals of government (Penguin, 2006))’, ‘커넥시티 (Connexity (Harvard Business Press

and Jonathon Cape, 1998))’ 등이 있다. 또한 현재 집단지성에 대한 저서를 준비 중이며 이 책은 프린스턴 대학교

출판사에서 출간될 예정이다.

제프 멀건 Geoff Mulgan

Nesta 대표Chief Executive of Nesta

Geoff Mulgan is Chief Executive of Nesta, the UK’s National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, and has been in post since 2011. Under his leadership Nesta has moved out of the public sector to become an independent charity (in 2012), launched a range of new initiatives in investment, programmes and research, and has implemented a new strategy involving partnerships with foundations, governments and companies in the UK and internationally.

Biography

From 2004-2011 he was the first Chief Executive of the Young Foundation, which became a leading centre for social innovation, combining research, creation of new ventures and practical projects. Between 1997 and 2004 Geoff had various roles in the UK government including director of the Government's Strategy Unit and head of policy in the Prime Minister's office under Tony Blair. Before that he was the founder and director of the think-tank Demos. He has also been Chief Adviser to Gordon Brown MP; a lecturer in telecommunications; an investment executive; and a reporter on BBC TV and radio.

He is an adviser to many governments around the world. From 2013-16, under Mayor Boris Johnson, he was co-chair of the London Enterprise Panel committee responsible for science and technology in London. He has been a board member of many organisations including the Work Foundation, Big Society Capital, the Health Innovation Council, Political Quarterly, the Design Council, Atomium Culture, and Involve. He is a co-founder and current board member of organisations including the global Social Innovation Exchange, Studio Schools Trust, Uprising and Action for Happiness. He has been a visiting professor at LSE, UCL, Melbourne University and a regular lecturer at the China Executive Leadership Academy. From 2015-2018 Geoff is a senior visiting scholar at Harvard University, in the Ash Center at the Kennedy School.

From 2016 Geoff is co-chair of a new World Economic Forum group looking at innovation and entrepreneurship in the fourth industrial revolution. He is also member of the board of the French government’s French Digital Agency; a member of an Academy of Medical Science’s review of public health; the Scottish Government’s CAN-DO panel; chair of an international advisory committee for the Mayor of Seoul and member of an advisory committee in the Prime Minister’s office in UAE.

His recent books include The Locust and the Bee (Princeton University Press, 2013); The Art of Public Strategy - Mobilising Power and Knowledge for the Public Good (Oxford University Press, 2008), Good and Bad Power: the ideals and betrayals of government (Penguin, 2006) and Connexity (Harvard Business Press and Jonathon Cape, 1998). His next book, to be published by Princeton UP, is on collective intelligence.
