The Church has a responsibility towards creationand shemust assert this responsibility in the public sphere. In sodoing, she must defend not only earth, water and air as giftsof creation that belong to everyone. She must above all pro-tect mankind from self-destruction. There is need for whatmight be called a human ecology, correctly understood. Thedeterioration of nature is in fact closely connected to theculture that shapes human coexistence: when human ecol-ogyis respected within society, environmental ecologyalso benefits. Just as human virtues are interrelated, suchthat the weakening of one places others at risk, so the eco-logical system is based on respect for a plan that affects

both the health of society and its good relationship with na-ture.

... If there is a lack of respect for the right to life and to anatural death, if human conception, gestation and birth aremade artificial, if human embryos are sacrificed to research,

the conscience of society ends up losing the concept of hu-man ecology and, along with it, that of environmental ecol-ogy. It is contradictory to insist that future generations re-spect the natural environment when our educational systemsand laws do not help them to respect themselves Ourduties towards the environment are linked to our duties to-wards the human person, considered in himself and in rela-tion to others. It would be wrong to uphold one set of dutieswhile trampling on the other. Herein lies a grave contradic-tion in our mentality and practice today: one which demeansthe person, disrupts the environment and damages society.

Birth Choice is a non-profit, pro-life organization onthe front lines of the right-to-life movement reachingout to young men and women facing unplanned preg-nancies and decisions regarding their sexual health.This summer we are very excited to announce theopening of our newest life affirming clinic in LongBeach. We need volunteers to counsel clients, provideoffice support, and as a licensed medical clinic, wewill also need nurses, nurse practitioners, sonographersand medical doctors willing to donate their time andskills to provide services for our clients. We have twoidentical training series. Monday nights in LongBeach (July 13, 20 and 27) or Thursday nights in Or-ange County (July 16, 23 and 30).
