Campaign for LFA 1

Dear LFA Community, WE DID IT!

Thanks to each and every one of you, our loyal and generous donors, the Academy has exceeded its goal in the historic Campaign for LFA, raising $68.8 million in support of the school and its mission. We extend our most sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who has provided for the school in the past decade through Academy Fund support, gala contributions, endowment dollars or funds to support the construction of one of the many new buildings on campus.

LFA is a campus transformed. The addition of nine new structures—academic, athletic, residential—combined with improvements to seven existing buildings, make for a more modern campus, one that reflects the learning and living envi-ronment of the 21st century. Less visible, but certainly no less important, is the school’s endowment fund, which has grown 95 percent since the start of the Campaign in 2004. These dollars have allowed the school to offer improved programming, faculty professional development opportunities, financial aid for deserving students in need, and support for teachers and students both in and out of the classroom.

The decade-long Campaign for LFA has benefitted from the wisdom and leader-ship of many, including Head of School John Strudwick, former Board Chairs Jeff Neal, Rich Jaros ’70, and Jeff Keller ’87, current Board Chair Mike Schell ’65, and former campaign co-chairs Merrill Ferguson ’72 and Jeff Neal. As the Chair of the Campaign for LFA and former Board Chair, I had the privilege of working alongside these committed, spirited, and tenacious individuals. Through their leadership and commitment of time and treasure, this institution is a finer place.

They are not the only ones who made history at LFA: You, the alumni, parents, and friends of LFA, are the backbone of the school. We thank you most gra-ciously for getting us to—and through!—the finish line in this Campaign. More than 3,000 of you stepped forward to show your love and appreciation for this very special school.

Once again, thank you for the enormous commitment of time, energy, and resources you put forth in support of the Academy, its teachers, and its students. YOU have changed lives. YOU have made the school stronger. YOU have been A Part of Something BIG.

Academy FundThe Academy Fund, LFA’s annual fund, supports all elements of school life while advancing the Academy’s mission. Academy Fund dollars help close the gap be-tween the cost of tuition and the actual price of an LFA education. Thousands of alumni, parents, and friends of LFA have helped meet the school’s financial needs over the years by investing their dollars in the Academy Fund. Since the start of the Campaign in 2004, more than $14 million has been raised for the Academy Fund,* allowing the school to provide extraordinary opportunities for students and faculty.

*This figure includes Academy Fund and other charitable events, as well as multi-year pledges to the Academy Fund from FY15 through FY19. Total does not include Gala Dutch Auction support.

GalaThe annual spring Gala brings together the LFA community in celebration of the school and in support of special projects. Since 2005, Gala support has funded a variety of campus initiatives, from classroom technology and website redesign to new Caxy vans and improvements to the Student Center. The final Gala of the campaign period, Gala 2014: Connect, completed a multi-phase project to enhance and modernize classroom and office space in the Corbin and Korhumel academic wings.

Planned GivingLake Forest Academy gratefully acknowledges those alumni, parents, and friends of the school who have made arrangements to include the Academy in their estate plans. Since the start of the Campaign for LFA in 2004, more than $4.3 million in legacy gifts has been realized. The Academy is eternally grateful to these very special donors, whose support helped bolster the school’s endowment and fund building projects, such as Weinbrenner House and the Ferry Hall Dormitory.

Lake Forest Academy gratefully acknowledges those alumni, parents, and friends of the school who have made arrangements to include the Academy in their estate plans.

The Campaign for LFA total also includes $4.1 million in additional documented planned gifts directed to the school. We thank these donors most graciously for their foresight and thoughtful planning. There is no more powerful way to say thank you than by directing a planned gift toward an institution. These invest-ments will help ensure that the school remains a strong and viable place, both now and into the future.
