Helpful Hints for Posters The title of your presentation should be at the top of the poster, followed by the name of the

author/s and the institution where the work was completed (if applicable). If the title of the poster is lengthy you may use a shorter version of the original title.

The poster must be readable from a distance of 1.5m to 2m, so use dark text and use the space to provide a layout that is clear and informative.

A guide to text sizes for the viewing distance is: o Title: 2.5cm – 4cm o Authors and Institutions: 1.5cm o Subheadings: 1.5cm (44 pt.) o Body Text: 1cm (36 pt.) o Use 1.5 or 2 line spacing for the text

Your poster should be self-contained and self-explanatory, allowing viewers to peruse on their own while the author is free to supplement or discuss particular points raised in inquiry.

Presentations should be kept simple and clear and a mixture of text and graphics is recommended.

Materials should be mounted on material, poster paper or board. Use matte finish rather than glossy paper. Arrange materials in columns rather than rows. An introduction should be placed at the upper left and a conclusion at the lower right.

Presentation of original research must follow the same format as the abstract. That is, introduction, methods, results and discussion/conclusions.

Each chart, table, diagram or photograph should be large, readily legible and self-explanatory. Captions or legends should be brief.

Page 13

Minimise detailed explanation. Use large type in short, separated paragraphs. Numbered or bulleted lists are effective ways to convey a series of points. Do not set entire paragraphs in uppercase or bold type.

It is suggested that you produce some A4 copies of your material for distribution.

What to do Onsite 6 velcro dots will be provided to you to mount your poster within the poster viewing area. If you wish to use an alternate method of affixing your poster, you must bring this yourself. It is your responsibility to bring your poster and ensure it is on display for the period required. Please ensure you collect your poster at the end of the conference. All posters that are not collected will be destroyed.
