    Applications.

    The EVOLIUMTM Microwave is a family ofdigital point-to-point radio systems designedto satisfy the numerous digital transmissionneeds of public and private networks formultiple applications.

    The short-haul microwave systems of theEVOLIUMTM Microwave family offerhomogeneous technical solutions from7 to 38 GHz thereby ensuring maximumradio performances in each band.

    The 7, 8, 13, 15, 18, 23, 25 and 38 GHzbands are internationally normalizedfrequency bands for the transmission of lowand medium capacities.

    The short-haul microwave systems areparticularly recommended for theinterconnection of cellular networks basestations and base station controllers, theycan also be used for the roll-out of publicand private networks, in urban or

    suburban zones.

    Telephone transmission

    - regional and local traffic,- cellular base station interconnections,- microcellular networks,- corporate (private) networks.

    Data transmission

    - transport of multiplex for data networks(WANs, LANs),

    - connection of high speed digitalterminals (fax, video-conference, etc..)

    - utility networks (pipelines, electricity,railways,etc..).

    Capacity.

    The short-haul microwave system featuresembedded multiplexing and transmissionfunctions for the following capacities:2x2, 4x2, 8x2, 16x2 and 34+2 Mbit/s.

    Standards.

    The EVOLIUMTM Microwave family is

    compliant to ITU-R, ITU-T, ETSI standards,including EMC and safety standards.

    Technical highlights.

    Excellent spectrum efficiency is achieved,using 4 QAM modulation digital filtering

    The modem features Forward ErrorCorrecting (FEC) and equalizer for evenbetter radio performance

    The digital frame incorporates a linkidentity code to prevent from the captureof an unwanted signal

    Frequency agile front-ends providecoverage of a complete frequency bandwith only four different outdoor units (onlyone for the 7/8 GHz band)

    Different software packages make thesystem capacity-agile, up to a maximum(defined as an option). This maximum canbe as high as 16x2 Mbit/s with the sameunit. This feature permits an optimizationof the used spectrum and easy upgrade

    Systems above 23 GHz feature staticpower control with accurate settings

    The system features near-end and remote-end loopback facilities as well as anembedded tributary cross-connect matrixfor test or network reconfiguration purposes

    1+1 configuration use embedded

    automatic errorless receiver switching toprotect the most critical transmission paths;

    Integrated 2 Mbit/s wayside traffic is alsoavailable (at 34 Mbit/s)

    The system incorporates built-in testfunctions such as a pseudo random bitsequence generator able to insert astandard test signal for bit error ratemeasurements.

    Compact design.

    The short-haul microwave system

    consists of two main parts:

    An Outdoor Unit (ODU) An Indoor Unit (IDU).

    Between the two main units, the systemuses a single standard coaxial cablecarrying the main traffic, the remotesupply voltage and auxiliary informationover long runs.The ODU was designed for operation inharsh climatic conditions.The ODU gives the received signal leveland a connection to the service channelof the link by means of a service kitenabling quick installation.Different supporting structures: Fixedversion (mast, wall...).Transportable version on tripod.

    The ODU can be used with:

    Integrated antenna (13 GHz and above )up to 600mm diameter. The ODU is fixedby means of quick latches. A specific polemounting, provided with an accurateantenna alignment system, permits easyinstallation. It features compact light-weightdesign

    Separate antenna.

    The IDU is very compact (1U height)

    and can be adapted for a large

    configuration range:

    The classic IDU able to provide allpossible features (up to 16x2Mbit/s, 1+0,1+1 HSB or Space diversity)

    The light IDU optimized to fit mobileapplications (up to 4x2 Mbit/s, 1+0).The IDU can be installed in standard 19racks or integrated in base station.

    Easy installation, set-up &operation.

    Thanks to its mechanical design, built-in testfunctions and user-friendly PC interface(WindowsTM environment), the short-haulmicrowave systems allow fast andaffordable installation as well as quickset-up and easy operation.

    Simplified maintenance.

    The EVOLIUMTM Microwave family achievesmaximum commonality across frequenciesand capacities, hence greatly reducingthe sets of spare part and trainingrequirements.The high reliability is obtained through theuse of advanced technologies, highlyqualified components and severe testprocedures in factory. High MTBF limitsthe maintenance to routine visits.

    Network management(Alcatel 1300).

    The EVOLIUMTM Microwave family featuresa leading concept of network management,using either Alcatel proprietary protocolor a SNMP Agent over TCP/IP (option).

    Whatever the size of the network is,

    appropriated solutions can be

    carried out in an evolution path:

    Standalone solution using integratedmanagement, with reporting of alarms andcontrols, configuration management andperformance monitoring (G821,G784/G826) to a master terminal (whichmonitors small networks using theEVOLIUMTM Microwave family). This user-friendly management requires only a PC ina WindowsTM environment.The optional SNMP protocol brings also a

    valuable facility to re-route automaticallythe TMN messages over all the operationalTCP/IP interfaces of the equipment.

    For medium-sized networks (up to severalhundred network elements) or for networksinvolving other types of network elements(optical lines, multiplexers,), it is onlynecessary to add an external mediationfunction to the existing PC.

    Even larger or complex networks can bemanaged in the Alcatel TMN using aworkstation, through a Q3/QB3 interface.

    Services.

    Fulfilling any customer requirement,

    supporting operators is a key issue

    for Alcatel. Therefore, a full range
