As the Easter break approaches we are reminded that this is a time for looking forward and for renewal and change. Since my appointment I have been work-ing closely with key staff within the school to ensure that plans are in place for the continued improvement of Wolverley and

that there is a smooth transition of leadership. I look forward to taking up post on 28th April at the start of the new term when I will begin work with all students, staff and parents to ensure our journey together is one full of excitement, ambition and achievement.

As a parent of three children I know how important your child’s education is to you. I think it is vital that we have a chance to meet as soon as possible so that we can have a mutual understanding and can start to work together to ensure the best possible education for your son or daughter. I have arranged two opportunities for you to join me for a relaxed and informal evening, during which I will be able to share my plans and vision for our school as well as tell you a little bit about myself and my educational background.

There will be light refreshments during the evening and a chance for you to ask questions, meet other key senior staff and have some informal discussion. The first evening aimed at years 7, 8 and 9 will be on 6th May and other year groups on 13th May. They will last for about an hour.

I will write to you formally to invite you with details of timings in the first week of term.

I hope you have an enjoyable Easter holiday. Bryn Thomas

Students will be getting a taste of their dream job thanks to the launch of the school’s Ambassador Pro-gramme, which encourages students to aim high and ensure they make the right decisions for their future.

Following an assembly where students were encour-aged to think about their ultimate ambition and ex-plain why they wanted to pursue that as a career, 31 Year 7 and Year 8 students are now going to get the chance to spend a day experiencing their choices.

From actors, marine biologists and journalists, to beauticians, computer game programmers and sport physios, the students had a wide array of aspirations. Once the Wolverley Ambassadors have enjoyed their experiences, they will report back to their teachers and peers about what they learnt and how it will help turn their dream into a reality.

Mark Pollard, Acting Headteacher, commented: “Students in Years 7 and 8 will soon be thinking about their GCSE options, so this is a great opportunity for them to get a taste of their dream job to help them

decide what subjects to study. We’re cer-tain that the Ambas-sador Programme will become some-thing that students will look forward to being a part of.”

Mark Garnier MP was invited to ask young women from the Wyre Forest area to put themselves forward to shadow him in Parliament. Sixth former, Jessica Bryant was lucky enough to be the Wolverley young woman chosen.

In March as part of the “Inspiring Change” theme for International Women’s Day, Jessica and five other local girls enjoyed a tour of num-ber 10 in the morning and then had the opportunity to spend the afternoon shadow-ing MP, Mark Garnier.

‘Ambassador programme’ dream jobs.

In September, Kidderminster holds a Heritage Week-end. The focus is: ‘The Peoples’ War: Kidderminster 1914-18.’ Does your family have any photographs, doc-uments, objects or family stories or memories which have been passed down the generations about life at this time? If you do, please contact Mr Rose or Mrs Parsons. Thankyou.

WW1 memorabilia please.

Let us be thankful and remember. We are quick to moan about things in the world to-day, But let us remember those soldiers who gave their life away. We have technology and luxuries that we use with-out thought, However, in the trenches all the soldiers had were the memories they brought. No personal possessions, no life of their own, But willing to die to protect everyone at home. But by giving their life we are a country that is free, Health care, education and protection for you and me. How different it would have been if 100 years ago, Young men who were asked to fight turned around and said 'no'. So I ask of you to stop and think about the person you could be, Someone who takes from society or continues the fight to be free. We must remember the soldiers who paid the ulti-mate price, And ensure we learn from their teachings and celebrate their sacrifice. By Connor Rook, Year 11.

The poem has been made into a permanent feature and is displayed in Sebright foyer near the other war memorials. It was unveiled by Mr Peter Dunn, Secretary of the Kidderminster Branch of the Royal British Legion on the 14th of March.

Following a very successful three night run of the ‘Bugsy Malone’ musi-cal, our new Headteacher sent this mes-sage to all the

students and staff who were involved. “My family and I had fantastic time at Wolver-ley’s production of Bugsy Malone. We were amazed by so many brilliant performances from students across all age ranges that it is impossible to single anyone out. It was a huge team effort which involved so many people in so many ways. From the programme to the set, the lighting to the front of house, the mu-sicians to the technicians, it was truly a whole school event to be proud of. I can’t wait to start my role as Headteacher and the Friday night performance made me even more excited about working with the mature, well-mannered and talented students and the dedicated and hardworking staff that make Wolverley such a unique school.”

The ‘Bugsy Malone’ production was a fantastic success and a sell out.

Fair Trade chocs have huge benefits. Year 7 Opening Minds students ran a fair trade chocolate stall from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th March and were made aware of the benefits. The products are farmed in a way that is kind to humans and the environment. Working conditions are safe, child labour is banned and women’s voices are heard in making decisions. Thanks to all students who came and bought chocolate to support this wonderful cause! Mrs Parsons.

MONEY RAISED: The Prom Pamper Party raised a fantastic £137, the Valentine cake sale raised a fabulous £97 and the quiz night raised £272. Brilliant! Well done to all involved, from setting up to taking part in all the fundraising events. Big thanks to you all. Watch out for other events coming your way soon! Mrs Rose.

Prom money fundraising is going well.

The Wolverley Pyr-amid Concert took place on Wednes-day 19th March at Kidderminster Town Hall. Over 200 students from the Wolverley Pyra-mid of Schools, which incorporates Wolverley CE Sec-ondary School, St Mary’s CE Primary School, St Catherine’s CE Prima-ry School, St Oswald’s CE Primary School, Cookley Sebright Primary School and Wolverley Sebright Primary School, took to the stage to perform a number of songs with a colour theme.

All the schools joined together to perform Yel-low Submarine, Gold, Hi Ho Silver Lining and Purple People Eater, with our School also sing-ing Supermassive Black Hole by Muse, Red by Daniel Merriweather and Black Horse and a Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall.

Colourful Pyramid concert links us up with all the local Primary Schools.

Two trips have been run to Worces-ter Warriors fixtures at the Sixways stadium and recently a visit took place to the London Wasps game where our U16 team were coached before the match. Our students were also invited to observe the Warriors pre match coaching ses-sion.

Table tennis tournaments and free play.

The BTEC Dance students recently went to Southampton to take part in the 'Rock Challenge Raise The Roof 2014' event. They won awards for excellence in cho-reography, lighting and perfor-mance skills. Well done Miss Hack-ett and everyone who was involved!

Dancers scoop 3 awards.

Rugby skills shared by the experts.

In February the Year

10 students watched a

presentation by Shaun

Attwood, who is a for-

mer stock market mil-

lionaire and drug ad-

dict. He told us fasci-

nating and shocking

stories of his time in prison and how drugs affected

his life. Shaun was arrested and sent to a prison in

Arizona. He told us about the violence he witnessed

in prison and he smuggled information about those

conditions to the U.K. so that his relatives could gain

some insight into Shaun’s experiences.

Finally he explained how different types of drugs

affect your body and how he reformed to become a

successful and insightful member of society.

The whole experience was both fascinating and in-

spiring, and it gave every student an idea of how ille-

gal drugs can negatively affect someone’s life.

Report by Arthur Jones, Year 10.

Inspiring talk for Year 10s.
