= God’s Heart (thought and Plan) for Us:

Romans 5:5 - we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

How Is Our God Glorified in the Success

of His Children?

1. 1. Presence of God

Vs. 1 - Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

= How Much is God’s Presence Shown in the One Chapter of Genesis 39?

(1) Prosperity as a Servant. 39:2 – The LORD was with

Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

(2) Witness to Others39:3 – When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did,

(3) Channel of Blessing to Others

Vs. 5 - From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

(4) Receiving Favor of others Vs. 20b-21 – But while Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden

(5) Success everywhere39:23 – The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

= What are the Characteristics of Joseph noted from the Reading of the Bible?

Genesis 39:2b, 20 - Joseph lived in the house of his Egyptian master…. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

= How did Joseph Show his Faithfulness in the Life of his Service?

39:6 – So Potiphar left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

39:22 – So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

A Case Study on Success over Temptation.

Genesis 39:6-9 - Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife.

Gen 39:11-12a - One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!”

Vs. 19-20 – When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

2. 2. Manifestation of God

Ps. 105:2 - Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.

= How did God Show Himself to Joseph in Potiphar’s House?

Ps 25:4 - Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths;

3. 3. Reward of God

Genesis 39:20 - Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

= What Reward did Joseph Receive in the House of Potiphar and in Prison?

39:5 – From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph.

39:22 – So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

= How did God Prepare Joseph for Greater Success? Genesis 41:14 - So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh.

(1) For Politics – Where You are Put to Learn

39:20 – Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

(2) For Management – Where You are Put to Do

Genesis 39:5,22 – From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned…. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison,

(3) For Faithfulness – Where You are Put to Prove

Genesis 39:2b, 20 - Joseph lived in the house of his Egyptian master… Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

(4) For Patience – Where You are Put to Endure

A Case Study on God’s Timing (Gen. 40:14-15, 23,

41:1)

Gen 40:9-11 - So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me, and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes. Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”

Genesis 40:16-17 - When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread. In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”

Genesis 40:14-15 - But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. For I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”

Genesis 40:23, 41:1 - The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him. When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile.

Gen. 41:14 - So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh.

Genesis 41:39-40 - Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”
