Energy Initiatives of MCAS Beaufort Neil Tisdale

June 13, 2012

Major Energy Projects Executed

• Base Wide EMCS – Saving 34,507 MBTU/Year

• Phase I ESPC – Saving 55,474 MBTU/Year

– Ground-source Heat Pump (GHP) in 30 Buildings

– 75% of HTHW Distribution System Abandoned

– Lighting Controls

– Barracks tied into main chiller plant

– Merged Controls with EMCS

• Phase II ESPC – Saving 18,230 MBTU/Year

– GHP in 5 Buildings

– 1.5MW / 9MBTU Micro Turbine Co-Generation Plant

– 750-Ton Variable Flow Chilled Water Plant

– Hangar and High Bay Area High-Intensity Fluorescent Lighting

Occupancy Override

•Allows for heating/cooling when the

building is scheduled off.

•Time is added per push.

•Up to 3 pushes can be used to

accumulate time.

•Time per push is generally 90 minutes

but can be programmed for higher values

Occupancy Indicator Light •Red indicates that the space is under

normal temperature control

•Summer set point is generally 78F.

•Winter set point is generally 68F

Set Point Adjustment •Allows adjustment to the space

temperature plus/minus 3 degrees F.

ESPC Phase II

• Awarded by September 2003

• 10 additional buildings

• CHP replaced by Co-Gen plant.

• 6 man-years of labor savings.

• 10,000 MBTU of energy savings projected.

• Central Chiller plant moved and upgraded

• Hangar and high bay lighting replaced

• 5 buildings on Geothermal

• Controls will be integrated with base EMCS
