In my diploma work I would like to go into some of the situations that will change as the light rail in Bergen con-tinues to work its way further south in the Bergen valley.

Development and densifica-tion of these areas will hap-pen. To become viable so-cially and environmentally sustainable areas qualified and aware thinking on many levels is going to be needed; in the decision-making pro-

cesses, in the developing of the land and use of the areas of the inhabitants when living here. Politicians, architects, engineers, planners, inves-tors, inhabitants. I am not sure on what level I would like to go into but I think looking at the back-ground layer of all the action that is going to take place can be one angle. How to further develop a situation like this that is already developed, but will be densified in years to

come. I am thinking of storm water/surface-water manage-ment, pedestrian accessibility, accessibility by bike, green areas. The micro-climatic sur-roundings in the streetscape and in the spaces between is of course important in Bergen if one want to attract people to the streets and squares. Mixed use programming and type of housing (single/fam-ily/elder) one plan for will also shape the impression of an area.

Maybe choosing 3 of the situ-ations (Wergeland, Tors vei, Skjold?) and work with them in a utopic-scenario like way and then chose one and try to develop further based on the utopian ideas can be my ap-proach.
