A Basic units of living thingsLook at the animal model in Fig 4.1. It is made up of many toy bricks. Toy bricks are the building blocks of this model. Are living things made up of some small units too? All living things are made up of cells*. We say that cells are the basic units of living things.

Some living things are made up of only one cell. They are called unicellular organisms*. Examples include Amoeba and bacteria.
