Road Take Thonburi – Pak Tho road or highway number 35 and then 4. When reaching Chumphon, then take high-way number 401, 405, and 4144 respectively. Travel around Phuket is easy and convenient with a myriad of car rental operators serving car at the airport. In case of self-driving, GPS or map will enable one to travel around the Island. Also airport transfer taxis connecting airports to different land-marks around island are generally available. The locals usually use the colourful shared taxi called ‘Po-tong’. This shared taxi journey is a good fun way to explore and get in touch with local livelihood.

Chinese New Year New Year holidays for Chinese descents of Phuket mean many auspicious activities including Gods worshiping, Dragon dance. Chinese New Year is according to Chinese lunar calendar. Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthorn Festival 13 March every year marks the date of the heroic acts of Phuket’s two heroines had defended the city from enemy. Turtle Release Tradition This means to conserve sea turtles, so there are a number of organised turtle hatchling release events in various beaches around Island on 13 April every year. Seafood Festival It takes place in May with all the lively parades and booths and stalls from top seafood restaurants and outlets.

Moon Worship Festival The festive holiday is observed by the worship of the Moon by moon cakes and other Chinese treats on full moon night of the 8th month on Chinese lunar calendar.Vegetarian Festival The festival can be during September to October. Phuketians will worship gods and have only vegetarian diets. Away from the buzz of Phuket Inter-national Airport to the north side of the Island, Mai Khao Beach locates in Sirinat National Park, next to Saikaew Beach. Together they make the longest sand beach in Phuket. This old house was constructed in later in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), at the turn of last century in Sino-Portuguese architecture, first of its style in Phuket. The owner was Prapitak Chinpracha and the estate has been inherited to later generations of family to the late Mr. Pracha Tan-tavanich, and now ‘Aunty Dang’ Mrs. Charoonrat Tantavanich, the wife of Mr. Pracha. The estate is open to public to revisit the glamorous past of Phuket. All materials were imported during the high time of trade via Penang – floor tiles from Italy, wall bricks from The Netherlands, furniture is inheritance from old generation. This house is also last of its kinds which can maintain the interiors of an old Phuketian family house intact.

Life in Phuket Australian designer has lived in Phuket for already 12 years. He owns ‘Underwood’, a furniture shop with interior decoration items and sculptures locating on Chalerm Prakiat road in Phuket City.First thing coming to mind when men-tioning ‘Phuket’ Rich environment of the Island, because my design work involves recycling leftover materials to be more useful, to be a brand new product that works again.Phuketian’s Charm Phuketians can look quite serious but they are indeed friendly. Here we have Underwood Factory as well. I always have dinner out. Last night I went to ‘Savoey’ at Patong Beach, the food was just delicious.The reason to love Phuket Because Phuket is home, I was born and raised in Australia, but Phuket is a place I choose to live. Laem Sing Beach is a private beach that requires a certain walk down the cliff. Life in Phuket I was born in Phuket, am growing up along with Kan Eang @ Pier, the famous restaurant by Chalong Bay which is family business.First thing coming to mind when men-tioning ‘Phuket’ Sea is what I think of. My family usually goes picnicking at Koh Hae (Coral Island) which has white sandy beach and hornbills which is a prime indicator for the best nature condition of the Island.Phuket in the past Phuket was peaceful and rather empty and full of green area. Traditions and Cultures I like our dressing culture, namely batik sarong.

We always wear that to the important social and traditional events including Baba-yaya styled fashion I wore in my wedding day.Phuketian’s Charm Phuketains are friendly and easy to make friends. All locals know each other well and still use many local particular words in our daily conversation.I love Phuket because Phuket is not a big province with lots of people. People mostly know each other. Foods are unique and we have traditions and festivals that bond us together like Phuket Vegetarian Festival. Even some Phuketians might move away, but they will return to join these important festivals.

Promthep News Center Clock Tower is known for its mimic shape of old time police helmet. Dibuk road many tin mine concession-aire families have their mansions and residences here on this road including Luang Amnat Nararak’s residence which was meticulously built.Krabi road Residence and business premise of Laung Anupas Phuketkarn and mansion of Phra Pitak Chinpracha – these are two of the best kept ‘Ang Mor Lao’ in Phuket.
