　昭和 43 年福井国体において、旧朝日町がフィールド・ホッケー競技の開催地に指定されたことから始まる。昭和 40 年から準備に入り、スポ少、中学校、地元高校（丹生高校）で練習を開始、少年・成年の部に出場すべくチームを結成しての出場となった。国体では丹生高校男子チームや成年女子チームが優勝するなど、地元は大いに沸き、後にママさんチームなども結成され今日に至る。　この間、平成 26 年には丹生高校男子が選抜大会・インターハイ・国体と全ての大会において優勝し、高校三冠となったほか、朝日中学校女子が全日本中学生ホッケー選手権大会で平成 26 年から四連覇するなど、数多くのチームが全国大会等で優秀な成績を収めている。　また、平成 25 年には県内の大学にホッケー部が設立され、ジュニアから成年まで一貫指導による選手の強化が図れることとなった。

ホッケーの聖地、越前町Echizen-cho, the sacred land of field hockey

── 人と技　海土里織りなす　快適なまち ──People and Skills Interweaving Midori A Pleasant Town

　It started in 1968 at the Fukui National Athletic Meet, when the former town of Asahi-cho was designated as the venue for field hockey. Preparations began in 1965 when training started at the Japan Junior Sport-club Association, a junior high school, and a local high school (Nyu High School). Teams were formed in order to participate in the juniors and adults divisions. At the National Athletic Meet, the Nyu High School boys’ team and adult women’s team were victorious, creating local excitement in the area and this lead to the subsequent formation of a mom's team, and other, teams today. 　During this time, many teams from Echizen-cho have been accomplishing excellent results at national and local tournaments, such as the Nyu High School boys winning a triple crowns at the National Invitational High School Hockey Tournament, Interscholastic Athletic Meet and National Athletic Meet in 2014 as well as the Asahi Junior High School girls winning 4 consecutive championships at the All-Japan Students Hockey Championship Series starting in 2014. 　In 2013, hockey clubs were formed at universities in the prefecture, in an effort to strengthen players through comprehensive coaching from juniors to adults level.

　During the 1990s, the environment surrounding competitive hockey started to change, and it became necessary to change the fields from clay to artificial grass. The change to artificial grass field causes many aspects of play style to differ, and everyone involved craved for an artificial grass court to be build in the local area. 　In response to this, a plan was created to construct a hockey court in the former town of Asahi-cho, and construction started in 1999 with the assistance of Fukui Prefecture. In 2001 the “Fukui Prefectural Hockey Court" was completed, with an 11-player court equipped for night games, and it has come to attract many players. 　While the prefectural hockey court came to host many tournaments, hosting them on a single court caused significant difficulties in managing these tournaments, and so when the "All-Japan Junior High Students 11-Player Hockey Inter-Prefectural Championship Series" was set to be hosted here from 2005 to 2014 an increase in the number of artificial grass courts was also decided. In October 2006, two 11-player courts were added next to the prefectural hockey court, creating the "Echizen-cho Artificial Grass Hockey Courts". With this, the facility now has three courts overall with the same specifications, making it the only one of its kind in Japan to this day. 　The competitive environment also improved, with the facilities later successfully hosting the Japan League and international matches among others. In 2010 the Echizen-cho Artificial Grass Hockey Courts administration building was completed, followed by the Echizen-cho Artificial Grass Hockey Courts stands building which was completed in 2011.

　平成に入り、ホッケー競技を取り巻く環境も変化し、フィールドもクレーから人工芝への対応が必要となった。人工芝ではプレースタイルも異なる部分が多く、競技関係者からは地元での人工芝ホッケー場の建設が切望されていた。　これを受け、旧朝日町ではホッケー場の建設計画を策定し、県の協力を得て、平成 11 年から工事を開始。平成 13年にナイター完備の 11 人制コート１面の「福井県立ホッケー場」が完成し、多くの競技者が集うこととなった。　県立ホッケー場を拠点に多くの大会が開催されるようになったが、コート１面での開催には運営に困難を極めることが多くなり、さらに平成 17 年度から 26 年度までの継続開催が決定した「全日本中学生都道府県対抗 11 人制ホッケー選手権大会」を契機に、人工芝コートの増設が決まった。平成 18 年 10 月、県立ホッケー場の隣に新たに 11 人制コート２面を増設し「越前町人工芝ホッケー場」を整備した。これにより、施設全体では同条件となる３面のコートを有することになり、現在でも全国唯一の施設である。　さらに競技環境を向上させ、後には日本リーグや国際試合などにも対応できるよう、平成22年度に越前町人工芝ホッケー場管理棟が完成、また、平成 23 年度には、越前町人工芝ホッケー場スタンド棟が完成した。

58.6㎡のミーティングルームは、エアコン完備。コートの近くであるため、練習後のチーム打ち合わせも快適な状況で直ぐに行うこともできます。

The 58.6 ㎡ meeting room is equipped with air conditioning. Because of the rooms proximity to the courts, teams are able to hold meetings immediately after practice in a pleasant environment.

310.6㎡の室内トレーニングルーム。試合前、練習前のウォーミングアップなどをコートと同じ条件で行うために人工芝を敷き詰めたトレーニングルームです。シューティングサークルを確保できる広さを備えており、サークル内での戦術を確認することもできます。310.6 ㎡ indoor training room. This training room is covered with artificial grass to enable players to warm up or practice before games in a room that meets the same conditions as the actual courts. It has been made large enough to secure a shooting circle, to make it possible for players to check their tactics within the circle. 国際規格をクリアできるウォーターベースの人工芝コートが２面。

この散水するタイプの人工芝は、ボールの転がりがスムーズ。水を撒くことで摩擦が軽減され、安全性が高い人工芝です。

Two water-based artificial grass courts which meet international standards. These irrigated type artificial grass courts allow balls to roll smoothly. Sprinkling water reduces friction, creating a highly safe artificial grass.

大きくて、見やすいLED電光掲示板を各コートに完備。

Each court is equipped with highly visible LED electric scoreboard.

更衣室２部屋には、それぞれ脱衣所付き3.6㎡のシャワー室を完備。試合や練習後の汗を快適に洗い流すことができます。

The two locker rooms are each fully equipped with 3.6㎡ shower rooms in-cluding changing rooms. Players can refresh and wash themselves after games or after practice here.

1,000人収容のスタンド棟も完備。大会開催時には、多くの観客が近くで迫力あるプレーを堪能できるスタンドは、練習時には、プレーヤーの動きを的確に把握し、更なる競技力アップにつながる視野を展開します。

Also equipped with a stands building with a 1,000 spectator capacity. When tournaments are held, the stands provide a perfect view of the play for many fans, while during training, they enable accurate monitoring and understanding of the players' movements to help lead to increased competitive strength.

ロンドンオリンピック仕様のウォータベース人工芝。オリンピックなど、多くの国際大会で使用されているブルーの人工芝を採用し、視覚的にも鮮やかなコートでのプレーを実感できます。

Water-based artif icial grass meeting the specifications of the London Olympics. Utilizing the blue artificial grass which is used in the Olympics and many other international tournaments, it allows players to play on a court that is also visually brilliant.

A shrine with attracts many tourists as a location thought to be flowing with mystical energy. The shrine bell is designated as a national treasure and is displayed at the Ota Cultural History Museum.

劔神社 Tsurugi Shrine冬の味覚の王様、越前がに。11 月には旬を迎えた立派な越前がにが底曳網で漁獲され、多くのグルメファンの舌をうならせます。

Echizen Crabs are the kings of winter flavor. The best season for the crabs are in November when, the splendid Echizen crabs are caught in trawls to be savored by many gourmet food lovers.

越前町は越前焼の産地です。越前焼は「日本六古窯」として知られ、平成 29 年度に日本遺産に認定されています。

Echizen-cho is where Echizen Pottery is produced. Echizen Pottery is known as one of the "six ancient kilns of Japan", and in 2017 they were recognized as a Japan Heritage.
