MY STORE Is about the best thing I know of. It seems like a human being sometimes except a lots

better because you can trust it.I've got as much business as I need and make more profit than some people I know of.

Maybe they've got better houses and ride in finer cars, but maybe they didn't make all their money like I did. Honest I ain't earned a cent crooked. I didn’t inherit my money. I worked for it.

Country folks and niggers is my customers. Saturday is my big day. Ellen Jean helps me all trough the week and Martha Key helps out on Saturday. They're not much help. Don’t take the right kind of interest.

I like the smell of my store from the time I open it up at 7 in the morning till the time Ellen Jean throws oil on the floor when it's time to sweep up. I like everything about that store.

I sell canned goods, fresh meat, bread and crackers, flour, fencing, nails, hammers, guns. I sell all the things a body could need.

Not like at Admore's where it's just women's hats and dresses, or Taylor's where it's just for younguns. I want to know what the world is coming to.

If Rosie ever dies and the girls go off I'll sell this house and sleep in my store. I'll put up a cot, take my guns and my clothes and that's all. Maybe the TV.

Two or three days and nights went by; I reckon, I might say they slid along so quiet and smooth and lovely.

Sometimes we'd have that whole river all to ourselves for the longest time. Yonder was the banks and the islands, across the water; and maybe a spark - which was a candle in a cabin window - and sometimes on the water you could see a spark or two - on a raft or a scow, you know; and maybe you could hear a fiddle or a song coming over from one of them crafts. It's lovely to live on a raft. We had the sky, up there, all speckled with stars, and we used to lay on our backs and look up at them, and discuss about whether they was made, or just happened - Jim he allowed they was made, but I allowed they happened; I judged it would have took too long to make so many. Jim said the moon could a laid them; well, that looked kind of reasonable, so I didn’t say nothing against it, because I've seen a frog lay most as many, so of course it could be done. We used to watch the stars that fell, too, and see them streak down. Jim allowed they'd got spoiled and was hove out of the nest.

În conformitate cu reglementările în vigoare, începând cu data de 31 octombrie a acestui an până la data de 26 martie a anului viitor pe teritoriul ţării noastre se trece la orarul de iarnă. În consecinţă, în noaptea de 30 spre 31 octombrie, sâmbătă spre duminică, acele ceasornicelor vor fi date înapoi cu o oră, ora 4 devenind ora 3. Se revine astfel la ora Europei orientale. Acesta este timpul legal român (denumit impropiu "ora de iarnă"). Programul tuturor unităţilor economice, sociale şi cultural-artistice din întreaga ţară va rămâne neschimbat.
