Introduction to the Course
复旦大学《英语公众演说》教学团队
Objectives of the Course English Public Speaking (EPS) is an ESL practice-
oriented course, which aims to develop students’ following skills:
1. To build your self-confidence in EPS and communication;
2. To develop your ability to write effective English public speeches;
3. To develop your ability to effectively deliver English public speeches;

4. To develop your critical thinking skills, research skills, and cooperation skills;
5. To develop your speaker responsibility and skills, ie, your intercultural communicative competence, your credibility, your respect to your audience and the occasion, etc;
6. To develop your listener responsibility and skills, ie, your ability to listen effectively and critically to public speeches;
7. To help you make a bunch of new friends.

Classroom Norms -1 • Previewing plays an important part in your skills development.
Make sure you have completed the reading assignment each week before you attend class.
• Time constraints dictate that we adhere to a strict schedule. Speeches must be delivered on the assigned date. Failure to appear and deliver will result in an automatic “F”.

Classroom Norms -2 • Observe time limit assigned to each task.
• If you are late for class during speech presentations, please wait outside the door until you hear applause.
• Cell phones must be turned off or silenced.
