    He Rpopototanga

    Since the arrival of Pkeh, Mori and others have voiced concern about the state of

    the Mori language its life, near death and resurgence. It has been written about in

    theses, books and fought over with successive governments since the 1800s. This

    study is further contribution to the discussion of those whose passion is to continue

    the fight for the preservation of the Mori language; the indigenous language of

    Aotearoa.

    This thesis also explores the paradigm shifts, impacts and affects on the Mori

    Language, its culture and people with using narratives of those who grew up

    amongst the political shifts and subsequent impacts especially when trying to hold

    onto their identity and integrity as a Maori in this ever changing enviroment within

    Aotearoa. Such struggles have become a part of their particular make-up today and

    that of many Mori of the same era. Integral to this discussion is the examination of

    the Te taarangi teaching method as a pathway towards Mori language revival, a

    method that has been adopted by other indigenous cultures throughout the world as a

    leading method in language revitalisation will also be undertaken. In particular the

    narratives will provide accounts of experiences within the kaupapa of Te Ataarangi.
