Dear colleagues,

This document is just an abbreviation of the "How To write your C.V" part in Dr.Tareq

Rasheed's seminar on the 24th

of November.

The curriculum vitae itself is a dynamic document, what's a "dynamic document"?

It means that the C.V improves with time, as the owner goes on in his career life, and it should

be regularly updated.

Below, is an example of a C.V form followed by the explanation of each element of the C.V:

Now, let's explain each and every one of the previous mentioned C.V elements:

1. Name: (font size 18~20-bold-centered)

For the Middle East: write your name then your abbreviated middle name then

your last name, i.e. Husam M. Manaseer.

For western regions and countries like the U.S, Canada, and Europe: firstly write

your last name then your abbreviated middle name then your first name, i.e.

Manaseer M. Husam.

2. Contacts: (font size 10-Bold)

Po.box: important especially if you're applying to western countries.

E-mail:

a. Should be checked daily.

b. Use your personal E-mail, not your professional, job, or business E-mail.

c. Use a prestigious name for your E-mail address, something that clearly

addresses you.

Telephones:

a. RES(residential): +962 6 xxxxxxx

b. M(mobile): +962 7x xxxxxxx

c. O(office): don't use it if you're not comfortable with them calling you in

your work.

3. Objectives: (for all main headings :font size 14-bold-times new roman)

Shall be written in 2 lines or so, at first when you're a fresh graduate your objectives is

general, but after you gain experience your objectives shall become more precise and less

general.

4. Personal Data:

Rejected in the U.S, Canada, and Europe.

5. Educational Background:

Degrees listed in chronological order (most recent first).

Ex. BSc/ Civil Engineering; Jordan University; city, country; (year of graduation)

Should you put your GPA in your C.V?

Always present your best and hide your weaknesses, if your GPA is high it's best if you

write it down.

6. Professional Experience:

Listed in chronological order (most recent first).

Ex. Company name (abbreviated name); city, country

After each and every company you should write:

a. Job title.

b. Achievements.

7. Skills:

Ex. IT skills: (font size 12)

a. ETABS.

b. Sap2000.

c. AutoCAD.

8. Training Courses:

No chronological order is required, list according to subject, i.e. if I'm applying for the

position of a structural design engineer, I'll arrange the training courses so that the ones

that might be of interest for the employer are mentioned first.

Ex. Earthquake engineering; Jordan engineers' training center; city, country; number of

training hours.

9. Interests and concerns:

Ex. Award; awarding organization; year award granted

A brief description of the award.

11. Professional membership:

(Font size 12-plain).

Best choice is to write: Available upon request.
