In the Face of Adversity- J. Alper

All people experience pain in one form or another. However, while somebecome distant from G-d due to their suffering, others find ways of using th

pain to get closer to G-d. While one cannot measure another person’sdifficulties nor judge their reactions to them, Rabbi Soloveitchik writes abothe key difference between a person who views himself as a victim of his fa“goral,” and a person who views himself as the active subject in his life stor“ye’ud.” The symptoms of these different attitudes are subtle but significanThe “goral” experiences defeat and hopelessness from his suffering andphilosophizes about “WHY” this happened. The “ye’ud,” on the other handable to practice acceptance after the initial shock and then asks “WHAT isrequired of me to do now”. May we find the strength, like the “ye’ud,” to usany obstacles in our lives to bring us higher, to ask “WHAT” instead of “WHso that we can be strengthened by our experiences and make the activechoice to move forward with renewed meaning.

TechnologyWorld’s Thinnest Laptop. NO LONGER A MAC?!?!?

That’s right folks, Apple is no longer the world’s lead company on high end thin laptops. But who is thenew holder of this title? The answer may shock you, it’s Hewlett Packard (more commonly thinnest MacBook Air (11 inches-13 inches) to date is .68 inches, while the new HP laptop, dubbed as theHP Spectre, is roughly .41 inches, and provides much more in a smaller package.Build QualityThe HP Spectre (limited US edition) comes in a beautiful golden finish and Swarovski (what?)crystals. Bottom Line, you know it’s premium design because you don’t know what on earth thesematerials The regular HP Spectre however, will sport a machined aluminum and carbon fiber build, whichresults in a beautiful mesh of chrome gold and dark grey.

HardwareThe new laptop from the Tech Giant also supports an 8GB DDR3 RAM with a 6th Gen Skylake Core i5 or i7processor, with 256GB SSD or 512GB SSD internal memory, depending on which model you buy, with three newand improved USB 3.1 port, which is rumored to have double the speed of the standard USB 3.0 port, whichthe MacBook Air still uses. The Spectre supports a FHD (1920x1080 pixels) screen, but the drawback is thatthe touchscreen was removed from this device. Battery life is rumored to last 10 hrs. on web surfing andvideo playback.PricingThe base model of the Spectre, which will debut for $1169.99 comes with a Skylake Core i5 processor, 8GBRam, and a 256GB SSD (Solid State Drive), while the higher-end model, with a Skylake Core i7 processor,8GB Ram, and a 512GB SSD, will be priced at $1249.99.

Israel NewsGrowing Religion in the IDF

Since the inception of Israel, a growingconflict between the secular and religious branchesof Israeli society have been an underlying factorsto some of the biggest issues.

Until recently, the IDF had remainedpredominantly secular. With the convention being tokeep religion away from military motivation. Thereligious troops in the IDF had been discouragedfrom referencing religious convictions during military

missions, one example being Colonel Winter, acommander in the Givati Brigade, who had written aletter that termed their enemy as that which“curses… Israel’s G-d”. Col. Winter was criticisedfor his letter.

However, with the growing force of religioustroops in the IDF, including committed Hareidim, this system seems increasingly close to renovation.
