GM ELECTRIC needed an annual report that consistently demonstrated their green initiatives, which had achieved massive growth in almost all sectors, and clearly made available the numbers attributed to the per-taining fiscal year.

This project required a delicate balancing of imagery, text and numbers where neither could overpower the other. Primarily an annual report should report on the past accomplishments of the past year and more importantly display the monetary earning of the company and shareholders. Although numbers aren’t everything and sometimes an image accompanied with a small portion of text goes just as far and even adds a sense of feeling.

BRANDING - THE BLUE MOUNTAINS

THE BLUE MOUNTAINS is a small city located a 1.5 hours north-west of Toronto famous for its star attraction The Blue Mountain Resort and Spa.

Unfortunately the city itself is virtually unknown; in my research it was found that 4 out of 5 people could not name the city the resort is located in and furthermore did not know that the city offered a variety of other attractions. This was an obvious concern as the city recognizes itself as a “tourist destination”.

The city needed a re-brand and a fresh start.

The re-brand heavily focused on modernization and breathing life into the city. The old logotype maintained a 1900’s “old city hall” feel, whereas the new logotype represents a modern city and feel with a simple and mature color theme and heavy set type. The new image shouts “thrill”!

PRINT & MARKETING - DURABOND PODUCTS LIMITED

The System Selection Guide for Durabond Products Limited, an international manufacturer and supplier of industrial materials, is the comprehensive source of information for their customers’ understanding of various product systems, usage, and applica-tion. This is a point of contact for every customer when choosing products and product combinations.

The guide is designed to be easy to read, visually flowing, and understandable at a glance; this is achieved by the use of precise information, color coding, and chart separations. It is ideal for both expert contractors looking for product systems and inexpe-rienced, first time renovators.

This project managed to bridge the gap between two target au-diences while maintaining a level of accessibility, understanding, and deliver without limiting beauty or functionality.

The accessibility design project was a government sponsored competition with the purpose of redesigning the current “acces-sibility/disability” icons used internationally. Unfortunately the governor general called the competition to an early close and declared no winners.

The old wheelchair design was deemed exclusive.

My design was centered around the versatility of the “wheel” with the three notches signifying the inclusion of all parties: the physically disabled, those with complex disabilities and healthy people.

The “wheel” would then be versatile enough to house the sub icons that would specify the service or disability.

ICONOGRAPHY - ACCESSIBILITY

This was a lot of fun. The digital publication of an al-ready designed (by yours truly) limited monthly edition of Men’s Health magazine.

Hardcore. The issue’s contents are straight up, razor edge health knowledge by fitness professionals that trained like wolves and ate like bears, developing an al-most cynical love for the pain that comes with the gains.

The design was kept strictly gridded, aligned and lack-ing “flash” to evoke the focus, determination and single mindedness of the issue.

It’s hardcore, fired up and ready to go.

DIGITAL PUBLISHING - MEN’S HEALTH
