DescriptionIn modern architecture, sheet metal and spiral ducts of air-con-ditioning systems are often incorporated in the design of theroom. Emphasis is often placed deliberately on parts of the sup-ply system. In this visible installation of the ventilation ducts, itis a good idea to integrate volumetric flow controllers, duct si-lencers and air diffusers into the ducts. In order to be able to offer planners a technically outstandingsystem, which can also be well integrated into modern architec-tural concepts, we have developed the round duct system typeRR-COMPLETE.Its modular design allows architects and planners to constructfreely visible ventilation systems on the highest esthetic level.They thus provide a room with visual highlights. The system can be used in laboratories, schools, kindergartens,swimming pools, offices, showrooms, seminar rooms, restau-rants, gymnasiums, multi-purpose halls and even in residentialbuildings, in theory almost anywhere.Apart from its versatile geometric options, the round duct sys-tem harmonises with its environment also in terms of colour.The technical aspects of the round duct system impress withtheir wide range of components. Volumetric flow controllers,measuring cross/damper combinations and not least supply airand return air diffusers - vertical or horizontal mounting possi-ble - can be combined to give a complete system. All compo-nents can be manufactured to the same diameters and to auniform duct design.In addition to electric volumetric flow controllers, as an alterna-tive, a manually operated combination of measuring cross anddamper for regulation of the volumetric flow can also be used.The round duct system is already designed in the planning stageat SCHAKO and supplied to the customer as CAD drawing. Thisguarantees that all components are optimally tuned to one an-other.In on-site mounting, the round duct system excels with its pre-mounted suspension devices such as the rivet nuts for thethreaded bars.For maintenance, service, retrofitting, etc., inspection openingsin sufficient number and size must be provided on-site.The different components are connected by using connectingsockets.

Volumetric flow controller model VRA-RRDescriptionA volumetric flow controller is used for pressure-independentvolumetric flow regulation in ventilation and air-conditioningsystems. It is used to keep the volumetric flow constant (CAV)within specified limits or to control it variably (VAV) as a func-tion of a command variable, for example a room temperaturecontroller, DDC or bus system. For constant volumetric flows,the operating stages CLOSED/Vmin/Vmid/Vmax/OPEN are availa-ble in stage operation, controlled via relays or switches. Thehousing, measuring sensor, control flap, PI controller with pres-sure sensor and actuator form a closed control loop with feed-back, allowing demand-dependent, energy-saving air-conditioning of the single rooms or areas of air-conditioningsystems. When suitable electrical controller types are used,room or duct pressure regulation can be achieved.

The first adjustment of the Vmin, Vmax and Vnenn operating volu-metric flows is done prior to delivery ex works in accordancewith specific customer requirements, although Vmin and Vmaxcan be easily changed at any time with the controller alreadymounted by means of the handheld control device or the PC-Tool software. When these values are set, the functions of allvolumetric flow controllers are also checked. The operatingpoint Vmax can be set in the range 20 (30)...100% of the nominalvolumetric flow of the box, while the operating point Vmin is setin the range 0...100%, relative to Vmax or Vnenn (depending onthe controller types). The maximum deviation of the volumetricflows is +/- 5%, relative to the nominal volumetric flow Vnenn,based on a calibration curve of 12 m/sec. At lower flow rates, thedeviation in percent may increase.

For the calibration of the controllers, a curve with a flow rate of12 m/ sec is available. For constant-volume volumetric flowcontrollers, the Vmin value will be set to the desired constant-volume value. If the calibration curve must be changed on site, the controllersmust either be recalibrated ex-factory or the calibration curvemust be changed on site by the customer service of Schako.

For the measurement of the differential pressure, SCHAKO isusing its measuring principle by means of a double measuringcross made of extruded aluminium profile, to which 12 measur-ing points have been attached on the pressure and suction side,respectively, by the median line method, in order to determineaverage values. In comparison with measuring rods or measur-ing orifices having fewer measuring points, this gives higher ac-curacy, allowing the inflow area required in front of thevolumetric flow controller to be minimised (see page 7 - Instal-lation Information).

When using the controllers in systems with heavy dust contam-ination, suitable filters must be used. For contaminated or ag-gressive air or air containing fluffy material, only thosecontroller types must be used that incorporate a differentialpressure sensor. Since the membrane zero point must not bechanged in static sensors, the mounting instructions document-ed by the manufacturer must be adhered to. The volumetric flowcontrollers type VRA are not suitable for air containing stickyand greasy particles (e.g. kitchen exhaust air).

- If the customer absolutely wants a calibration curve differentfrom 12 m/s, it must be specified!

- When the air volume drops below the Vmin shown in thechart, the correct functioning of the volumetric flow controlleris no longer guaranteed!

Volumetric flow restrictor DKA-MKA-RRDescriptionFor quick, easy control of the supply air volume, the DKA-MKA-RR was especially developed for the round duct system RR-COMPLETE.The round, manually adjustable volumetric flow restrictorDKA-MKA-RR is suitable for installation in round supply air andreturn air ducts according to DIN 24145 or 24146. It is used forregulating the volumetric flows in air-conditioning installations.The integrated volumetric flow controller measuring cross typeis mainly used for measuring the air volumetric flow down-stream of the central unit or fan or for adjusting branch ducts orin ventilation and air-conditioning installations of large shop-ping centres having several tenants, for determining the sharein energy costs of the ventilation and air-conditioning installa-tion.

The hand-adjustable device with integrated position indicatorallows an exact setting of the damper blade, without tools, be-tween 0° and 90°. The housing is dimensionally stable due tostandard double beads. The throttle damper can be used at temperatures between 0°Cand +50°C. Maximum duct pressure 500 Pa.

The measuring cross substantially facilitates the measurementof the air volumetric flow, compared with the previous cost- andtime-intensive measuring method, in which many individualpoints have to be measured.The measuring deviation of the volumetric flow measuringcross is+ 5% bei 100 % Vmax. The measuring cross is largely insensitive to the intake flow,since 12 measuring points are distributed on this measuringcross according to the median line method. In comparison withmeasuring rods having only 4 measuring points or measuringorifices, this gives optimum measurement results. In order toexclude any unnecessary sources of errors, please observe tothe assembly method for VRA-RR on page 7.The differential pressure determined at the measuring cross canbe measured with a (static or dynamic) pressure measuring de-vice. When using the measuring crosses in systems with heavy dustcontamination, suitable filters must be connected upstream.The measuring crosses are not suitable for air with greasy andsticky particles.

For maintenance, service, retrofitting, etc., inspection openings in sufficient number and size must be provided on-site.

Duct silencer RS-RRDescriptionSilencing of the duct silencer type RS-RR in accordance with theabsorption principle is done by means of an annular chamberfilled with mineral wool according to DIN 4102 A2 non-flamma-ble, mineral wool with glass silk cover. Specially designed forthe round duct system RR-COMPLETE with the same duct di-ameter, the duct silencer is adapted optically to the remainingcomponents.For maintenance, service, retrofitting, etc., inspection openings in sufficient number and size must be provided on-site.

Attention:The use of the RS-RR is not only designed for minimising the flow-generated noise of the volumetric flow controller, but also for preventing the cross-talk sound transmission from room to room!

FunctionIn modern architecture, sheet metal and spiral ducts of air-con-ditioning systems are often incorporated in the design of theroom. Emphasis is often placed deliberately on parts of the sup-ply system. In this visible installation of the ventilation ducts, itis a good idea to integrate the air diffusers into the ducts.In order to be able to offer planners a technically advanced airdiffuser, which can also be well integrated into modern architec-tural concepts, we have developed our round duct diffusersDBB-RR, KG-RR, DSA-RR and WGA-V-RR.The RR diffusers consist of a round duct with integrated blades(DBB-RR / KG-RR) or integrated nozzles (DSA-RR / WGA-V-RR).

RR diffuser components with a length of > 1000 mm are pro-duced in two parts and joined in-factory with a connectingsleeve. The dimensions of the dummy pipe are the same asthose of the RR diffuser components DBB-RR / KG-RR / DSA-RR / WGA-V-RR. A different length of sections is possible on request. However, the maximum length for a middle or end piece is 1000 mm.

- Noise level and pressure loss in all blade or nozzle positionsremain the same when changing the air flow direction.

Round Duct Diffuser Model DBB-RRDescriptionThe round duct diffuser DBB-RR consists of a round duct withintegrated, linear nozzles, which can also be adjusted subse-quently by hand, with integrated hit-and-miss damper, whichallows the air to be blown absolutely uniformly over the entirediffuser area. The centrally arranged blades in support profilesections ensure that the free cross-section at every blade is thesame. As a result, the noise level and pressure are not affectedby changing the blade position. In heating mode, this allows alarge penetration depth, thus providing an effective, cost-sav-ing heating phase. In cooling mode, the maximum end velocityof jet and temperature difference are reduced to such an extentthat no draughts are produced in the occupied zone. During the installation, the round duct diffuser must be mount-ed in accordance with the desired air direction. The blades andthe hit-and-miss damper are positioned on the round duct at 3o'clock (-3U), 6 o'clock (-6U, standard), 9 o'clock (-9U) or 12o'clock (0U).This uniform admission allows the round duct diffuser DBB-RRto be installed at any point along the duct system.

Round Duct Grille KG-RRDescriptionThe round duct grille type KG-RR is suitable for installation insupply or return air systems. The air volume throughput can beregulated by using an integrated hit-and-miss damper. The in-tegrated hit-and-miss damper ensures a uniform distribution ofsupply air along the whole length of the grille.The round duct grille can be installed at any point of the ductsystem. The front side horizontal and vertical blades can beadjusted. A divergent air throw pattern can be set. Round Duct Nozzle Jet Diffuser DSA-RRDescriptionThe round duct nozzle jet diffuser type DSA-RR is suitable forinstallation into supply air systems. The integrated nozzles ofthe DSA-RR-F version are not adjustable, those of the DSA-RR-V version are adjustable manually and individually. During the installation, the round duct nozzle jet diffuser mustbe mounted in accordance with the desired air direction.
