SAL has extensive experience in transporting wharf mod-ules, platforms or bridge sections from manufacturing site to installation site. Our vessels and engineering capabilities even allow for direct displacement and installation.

An example of our competences hereto was the ship-ment of the beach platform structure “North Deck”. The North Deck is a beach platform for the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. Originally designed and constructed in Finland, it had to be manufactured in eight sections for the transport to Dubai. The heaviest piece weighs 740 tons (measuring 52 × 44 × 4 metres), while the biggest piece weighs 640 tons and measures 79 × 35 × 4 metres.

Loading all eight pieces did not only require stacking but as well several structural support frames for vessel and cargo to ensure safe transport. Finally stowed on deck, the cargo formed an aft overhang of 16, starboard overhang of 15 and portside overhang of 9 metres.

Marine cargo transports stand for complexity. Out of the water, vessels are sensitive and fragile. At SAL we know how to load, transport and unload your delicate marine car-go. From designing customized cradles for ensuring sta-ble support up to the construction of special lifting frames and arrangements – we are experts in developing the right solution for you. All our vessels are equipped with special lifting gear for your sensitive cargo, and our experienced engineers and crew know what it will take to lift and tightly secure your valuable possessions.

An example hereto was the transport of nine yachts on deck of MV Regine from several Mediterranean ports to South East Asia. The measures of the yachts ranged from 12 metres length up to a 56 metres motor yacht weigh-ing 775 tons. The yacht was the first vessel to be loaded in Genoa. Due to its length, it was a complex procedure which we successfully performed in close cooperation with Sevenstar Yacht Transport.

“Transporting very large superyachts on a lift-on, lift-off basis asks for outstanding equipment and crew. SAL’s very reliable vessels and its highly professional crew ensure smooth transport of the largest of yachts every time.” Costa Thuring, Senior Loadmaster, Sevenstar Yacht Transport

QUALITY MANAGEMENT – A WAY OF THINKING AND BEHAVING

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

By operating an integrated management system, we prove our commitment to ensuring its employees’ safety and pro-tecting the environment whilst providing high-quality heavy lift transport. To ensure a consistently high level of quality, SAL aligns its business processes to tap synergies whilst ensuring and fostering a culture of continual improvement.According to ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards, SAL upholds the highest standards in respect of HSEQ. All type 183, 176 and 116 have Environmental Passports in compliance with the highest environmental protection specifications.

All our employees constantly receive appropriate training whilst sharing responsibility for ongoing implementation of our QM and HSSE standards, both on board and ashore.

QUALITY POLICY

SAL aspires to be the preferred carrier in the heavy lift shipping industry by providing our clients with an excel-lent quality service in every aspect of our operations.

SAL is committed to adopt a safe and efficient operating process in managing business.

The SAL quality policy aims to achieve full customer sat-isfaction, meet legal requirements and create an overall Integrated Management System to secure and foster the culture of continuous improvement.

You can read the whole SAL quality policy here: www.sal-heavylift.com/quality-policy

HSSE POLICY

SAL’s goal is to create a working environment such that we cause no harm through injury or illness to people, and where we minimize our impact on the environment.

SAL is committed to the prevention of all incidents, inju-ries, occupational illnesses to our employees, contractors and members of the public. SAL is equally committed to the protection of the environment.

SAL fully complies with and maintains OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISPS, MLC and ISM certifications.

The management of SAL is committed to ensuring healthy, injury-free workplaces and minimizing their im-pact on the environment. All of our staff are committed both to ensuring their own safety and to protect the en-vironment.

34

HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY & ENVIRONMENT

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN HSSE

In line with our SAL HSSE policy, our Marine HSSE depart-ment strives for the implementation of the highest HSSE standards in our fleet. The culture of safety at SAL not only includes three key aspects – people, processes and tools – but also focusses on closely monitoring projects from the planning stages all the way to successful completion. Reg-ular risk assessments, toolbox talks and the maintenance of critical equip-ment to optimize safety during loading, sea passage and dis-charge are part of our HSSE policy – aiming to fulfill the needs of your sensitive heavy lift cargoes.

HSSE TRAINING AND AWARENESS

SAL is committed to the prevention of all incidents, injuries, occupational illnesses to our employees and contractors. Therefore, we follow eight SAL Safety Values, making a step change towards zero tolerance of incidents and safety breaches.

Comprehensive training programs involving regular sem-inars in Germany and the Philippines are regularly run to keep our shipboard teams fully informed about the latest HSSE practices. Our crews not only provide feedback on aspects where improvements are possible but also on im-provements which have already been successfully intro-duced. SAL’s Marine HSSE team participates in on-board safety committees and frequently boards the vessels to car-ry out and monitor operations and training activities.

SECURITY / ANTIPIRACY MEASURES

The high incidence of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and ad-jacent waters poses a persistent threat to onboard safe-ty. To address this, SAL has developed a comprehensive Best Management Practice (BMP) plan as an emergency guideline. The BMP includes rules for transiting high-risk areas and dealing with actual pirate attacks and hostage situations.

All vessels entering the Gulf of Aden are registered for the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor, which they traverse for added safety and to facilitate military ac-tion if required. The company has developed a set of special precautionary measures to protect crews, vessels and car-go whilst passing through this high-risk area.

35

Our values define what we believe in as a company and as employees. It is this fundamental belief that guides us to realize our vision:

“To be the preferred heavy lift carrier”

DYNAMIC POSITIONING

With its latest generation of high capacity vessels, SAL Heavy Lift continues to push the lifting envelope by intro-ducing a crane capacity of 2 × 1000 t SWL. In addition to this outstanding crane capacity, both heavy lift vessels are equipped with a class-leading Kongsberg Dynamic Position-ing System: While MV Svenja is equipped with a DP I system, MV Lone has a DP II system providing more redundancy.

OUR FLEET – MODERN AND FAST

Our modern fleet of 16 heavy lift vessels lets us offer our clients highly flexible options.

Our vessels are characterised by a lean structure and there-fore boast an impressive transit speed of up to 20 knots. They also feature up to 3500 m² of unobstructed main deck space and combined crane capacities ranging from 550 to 2000 t.

In July 2014, two Type 116 vessels with the highest ice class and a lift capacity of 900 t were added to the fleet.

All SAL vessels have an extensive range of cargo handling equipment including spreader bars, lifting beams, slings, shackles, and materials for lashing and securing items. All onboard equipment is approved by DNV GL (or equivalent).

To learn more about our fleet, please visit our website:
