Our Principal Ms Ng Miu Yee Maria and another teacher were seconded to teach at the University of Hong Kong and to provide school-based support services respectively before.

Medium of Instruction English is the medium of instruction for all subjects except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Putonghua, Liberal Studies and Biblical Studies in Senior Forms.

School Curriculum The school advocates self-directed learning and generates intrinsic motivation in learning. It caters for learner diversity through the use of questioning techniques and other means that develop higher-order thinking abilities. It also devises gifted pull-outs in various domains. There is a rich English environment and a wide range of Putonghua activities to develop students’ trilingual proficiency.

Religious StudiesOur School is founded on Evangelism and Christian education. In addition to offering biblical studies as a subject, we hold Gospel Week, Week of Religion, Morning Devotion, Class Bible Study, Small Group Ministry and Christian fellowships regularly.

Moral Education Due regard is given to students’ moral development, with morning assemblies, themed assemblies, class teacher sessions, and a dual-class teacher system implemented. These aim to enhance students’ critical thinking and foster proper values.

Extra-curricular Activities The school endeavours to nurture future leaders through various programmes with different aims and at different levels. All S1 students are required to take part in the Growth Camp whereas there is a school-based Leadership Development Programme for S2 students or above. In addition to the Student Union which hosts activities within school and with external organizations, we have four Houses, twelve school teams, scouts and various interest groups.

教學特色

課堂教學以幫助學生學會學習，喜愛學習為目的；也致力幫助學生建立自主學

習的習慣。本校亦著重照顧同學間的學習差異，於課室內運用提問技巧及其它

方法提升學生的高階思維能力；課堂外則提供抽離式的學習經歷有系統地培養

資優生。豐富的英語學習環境及多元的普通話活動，讓同學易於掌握兩文三語。

宗教教育

以基督教信念辦學，傳揚福音及幫助學生在靈育上發展是本校的宗旨。除聖經

科外，也有舉辦福音週、宗教週、清晨讀經、查經班、信仰成長小組及基督徒

團契等活動。

品德教育

重視學生的品德操守，透過德育週、早會、週會、班主任課及雙班主任制等，

致力培養學生建立正確的價值觀，抗衡社會歪風。

課外活動

本校著重發掘學生的領袖潛能，為學生提供有系統的領袖訓練。中一同學必須

參加成長營，中二及以上同學可以參加校本的領袖培訓計劃。此外，本校有

學生會、四社、十二隊校隊、童軍及不同的興趣小組。學生會除主辦校內活動

外，還聯繫校外機構，為同學提供持續及多元化的機會，發揮領袖才能。

Our Expectations for S1 Students All students at our school excel in academic studies. We have high hopes for our

students in the following areas.

1. As an Eager Learner Learning is a life-long journey. We hope that our students can remain curious about

their surroundings and be active, independent and confident learners for further

pursuits and personal breakthroughs. Our public examination results are a strong

proof of our students’ love for progress in learning.

2. With Proper Life Values and Life Goals Our students have high self-esteem, harbour high ambitions and hold proper life

values, while being gentle, polite and sociable. All of our teachers, the Disciplinary

and Moral Education Committee, Counselling and Guidance Committee, Civic

Education Committee, and Religious Affairs Committee work closely together and

complement one another in nurturing our students’ good character.

3. With a Wide Variety of Interests Other Learning Experiences, offering a wide range of options, nurture students with

Information on Making an Application forthe S1 Discretionary Places (2019/20)

1. Our School adopts the following as admissions selection criteria: a. A conduct grade of B or above; b. Good academic performance in P4, P5 and P6; c. Good performance in the interview

Each of the above criteria will have an equal weighting in our admissions procedures. Bonus points of not more than 10% of the total marks may be awarded to applicants with outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities.

2. Application period: 3rd - 17th January, 2019. Please visit our school website for details.

3. The application form can be downloaded at http://www.carmelss.edu.hk starting from 3rd December 2018.

4. Applicants NEED NOT submit recommendation letters from their primary school principals.

5. Interviews will be conducted on 23rd March, 2019. Applicants will be notified of the exact time separately by mail.

The Robotics Team has taken part in various regional competitions and achieved a

lot throughout the year. The achievements took our team to a number of international

events outside Hong Kong. Through these eye-opening experiences, students’ learning

and exposure have been enhanced and their potential further stretched.

Our Champion teams were given the honor to represent Hong Kong to compete in

the World Robot Olympiad 2018 held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in November 2018.

2017-18 Hong Kong FIRST LEGO LeagueRobotics Tournament

Our Robotics Team Aquable triumphed in the “2017-18 Hong Kong FIRST LEGO

League (FLL) Robotics Tournament” held on February 10, 2018. We won the First Place in

Robot Performance Award and Overall Champion Award.

The competition was organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Its

theme was “Hydrodynamics”. Our team represented Hong Kong for the FIRST LEGO

League World Festival 2018 in Houston, USA from April 18 to 21, 2018. We got much

inspired through fruitful exchanges with other contestants. Eventually, our team won the

‘THINK Award’.

The team members are as follows: So Yan Shun (5D), Cheng Wing Yan (4B), Choi Yik

Chun (4D), Ng Kit Yiu (4D),So Yin Tung (4D), Cheung Chung Tin (3A), Chan Man Shun

The English Debating Team has had another rewarding year taking part in a wide

range of English debating contests and tournaments of various formats, from the locally

familiar Australia-Asia style, the World Schools style to the British Parliamentary one. In

the past year, some of the debaters even went the extra mile in oration and successfully

delivered impressive performances.

After winning all the preliminary rounds throughout the school year, our debaters

broke into the Grand Final of the captioned competition held in the City University

of Hong Kong against Ying Wa College. After a hard-fought debate, our Team was

eventually crowned the Grand Champion. Our debate veteran, 5B David Tse was named

the Best Debater in the Grand Final.

The debaters taking part in the competition were 5B David Tse, 5B Cordelia Chan,

4A June Kan, 4B Isaac Lee, 3C Jora Yip, 2A Grace Ho, 2B Celina Deng and 2B Ryan So.

Our debaters excel not only in debating,

a niche form of public speaking, but

also the wider forms of it. In the junior

tournament adopting a simplified format

of the World’s Individual Debating & Public

Speaking Championships, 2B Celina Deng

emerged as a competitive public speaker

in the three compulsory categories, namely

Persuasive Speaking, Interpretive Reading

and Impromptu Speaking, against fellow

contestants of high-calibre from established and international schools. Celina eventually

was crowned the Champion in Impromptu Speaking and the Overall Champion of the

tournament.

中國語文菁英計劃（2017/2018）

3A班李澤榮同學獲得中國語文菁英計劃(2017/2018)銅獎。

「中國語文菁英計劃」由教育局資優教育組委

託中國語文教育研究學會舉辦。該計劃的目的是發

掘在中、小學中國語文方面表現優秀的資優學生，

並為他們提供在一般課堂以外有系統的初步培訓，

擴闊他們的視野，以及加強公眾對中國語文資優教

育的關注。

「中國語文菁英計劃」比賽內容包括即席寫

作、中華文化選擇題，即席辯論及即席演講比賽。

中國中學生作文大賽（2017-2018）香港賽區旭日文學之星優異獎

「中國中學生作文大賽」自2005年，由中華全國學生聯合會辦公室、中國作

家協會兒童文學委員會、中國關心下一代工作委員會公益文化中心、中國少年兒童

報刊工作者協會中學報刊專

業委員會聯合主辦。

本屆以「感恩，與青春

Results from the 19th Consumer Culture Study AwardA team of four S2 (2017-2018)

students was crowned the Champion in the

Junior Section and awarded the merit prize

for topic selection in the 19th Consumer

Culture Study Award. The topic of their

project was ‘一見「桶」情’. In order to

better understand our dependence on

rubbish bins, they had experienced a week

keeping all the trash they had created,

without the use of rubbish bins. While the amount of trash created was annoying to

them and their family members during the week, they managed to ponder over why we

are not aware of the burden caused by our waste to our planet. The team members are

3A Cheung Wai Yan Suki, 3B Chow Ka Yue, 3B Lai Jace Vivian and 3D Lai Pan Hei Bernice.

The HKCC Business Excellence Contest 2017-18 HKCC卓越商業大賽 2017-18

The HKCC Business Excellence Contest is an annual business competition organized

by Hong Kong Community College of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for senior

form business students. The

theme for the competition was

“Corporate Social Responsibility

Builds Long-term Success”.

Students had to analyze the

business of a real corporation

in Hong Kong and make use

of their creativity and critical

thinking skills to develop a

Corporate Social Responsibility

campaign for this corporation.

Out of 78 entries from

39 secondary schools, our S5 students, 5B Chan Yu Chun Kelvin, Wong Hiu Nga Olivia

and 5D Liu Hui Shan Annie, were shortlisted as the best five teams for the final round

adjudication and awarded the Bronze Award.

Super Voice Singing Contest 2017超新聲歌唱大賽2017

The Super Voice Singing Contest 2017 was hosted by Sha Tin Arts Association

Limited (沙田文藝協會有限公司). Our Choir, six handbell and 3 instrumental players

climbed to top 3 among 20 more choral teams, in the semi-finals on November 18, 2017

and were qualified to enter the finals at Shatin Town Hall on December 9, 2017. In the

finals, our team won The First Runner-up of Choral Group (大合唱組亞軍), together

with $2,000 cash award.

Joint School Music Competition 2017聯校音樂大賽2017

Our School Choir put on a good performance in the Joint School Music Competition

2017, organized by the Hong Kong Joint School Music Association. We won the Silver

Prize in the Secondary School Choir (Junior) Section, 7 Gold Prizes, 1 Silver Prize, 9

Bronze Prizes and 2 Merit Certificates in the Solo Classes. Our school was also honored to

receive the ‘Outstanding Music Training Award’.

Hong Kong International Handbell Olympics 2018 香港國際手鈴奧林匹克2018

Our school senior Handbell Team

and junior Handchime Team gave

a remarkable performance in the

Hong Kong International Handbell

Olympics 2018 organized by the Asia

International Handbell Association

(Hong Kong). The competition was

held in the “Chi Wan Youth Square-Y

Theatre”. The Handbell Team won

the Gold Prize in Advanced Handbell

Class and the Handchime Team won the Silver Prize in the Intermediate Handchime Class.

The 70th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival第70屆香港學校音樂節

The 70th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival was hosted by the Hong Kong Schools

Music and Speech Association. The School Choir won the Third Place in Church Music

(Chinese – Secondary School Choir – Age 14 or under).

University of West London - London College of Music Examinations倫敦學院音樂考試

Our School Handbell and Handchime Teams had remarkable results in the music

examinations. The School Handbell Team has achieved a Distinction in Music Performance

in Music Performance (LCM) Ensemble-Recital Level while the Handchime team has achieved

a Distinction in Music Performance in Music Performance (LCM) Ensemble – Level 3.

Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows 2017香港青年音樂匯演2017

Our String Orchestra and Symphonic Band participated in Hong Kong Youth Music

Interflows 2017 String Orchestra Contest and Symphonic Band Contest and won the

Bronze Award and Silver Award respectively.

Competition 2017-2018 (Division One - HK Island & Kowloon), organized by the Hong

Kong Schools Sports Federation. The Boys’ Team was ranked the Overall 4th Place.
