Girl Scouts of the USA is in the process of introducing new and revised program resources, with the goal of a Movement-wide transition to the new resources by September 2012.

The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting, the new badge and handbook series, will be available for purchase beginning fall 2011. All other Girl Scout books and resource will gradually be retired. All Girl Scout products

are available and should continue to be used while supplies last.

Badges are here to stay. GSUSA is currently at work to produce new badges for Brownies through Ambassadors. Daisies will continue to earn the Promise Center and Petals. New badges will be released in the forthcoming The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting which will include badge offerings, handbook sections covering traditions and history, an awards log, and much more! The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting will be available for girls in each grade level in September 2011.

Are Girl Scout Try-its, Junior badges, and Interest Projects being eliminated?

Journeys and badges are designed to be complementary, not to compete. Journeys are the core Girl Scout curriculum. They have been developed to help all Girl Scouts develop the three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action. Badges complement the journeys by helping girls build skills on specific topics.

To get a picture of how journeys and other Girl Scout activities work, together to make one consistent Girl Scout experience, visit the Girl Scout website, www.girlscouts.org/program/journeys/maps, to view the “journeys maps.” These maps provide an overview of the total Girl Scout experience for girls at every level. As you mouse over the map, you will see pop-ups that give further information about how to tie traditional Girl Scout activities (such as camping, field trips, and cookie sales) into the journeys.

How do journeys and badges differ? Will girls have a choice of doing one or the other?

If you plan to work on Try-its, Junior badges or Interest Projects, before you start please call the Council shops to see if they are still available. You may want to purchase what

you need in advance.

Exclusively for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors

Effective with the 2009 Fall Product Sale Program, this initiative replaces ALL previous wider opportunity programs for older girls.

Girls have the option of PSA participation with these benefits:

Nut Sale Girls will receive one dollar ($1) per nut item, after the first 20 items sold. The troop/group/ Juliette will also receive the basic commission from the first item sold.

Cookie Sale Girls will receive one dollar ($1) per cookie box sold, after the first 50 boxes sold. The troop/ group/Juliette will also receive the basic commission from the first item sold.

The qualifications and criterion vary by Girl Scout level.Juniors Girls who commit to the PSA have the current Girl Scout year’s cookie sale to earn money toward

a council-sponsored two or three night June trip during the same year.

Cadettes Girls who commit to the PSA have the current Girl Scout year’s cookie sale to earn money for Seniors one-year earning programs. An additional Girl Scout year is added for girls planning participation Ambassadors in two-year earning programs. Council-sponsored one- and two-year programs are listed below.

Girls who commit to the PSA are not eligible to receive other incentives, except for patches. Once declared, money is non-transferrable to another program. If a girl backs out of a program, the money she earned will be transferred to a council financial assistance fund.

Did You Know?l Girls who work towards bigger goals receive bigger rewards. This is a great way to have girls participate in all that Girl Scouts has to offer, at little or no out- of-pocket expense to you.l Girl Scout Cookies send girls to camp, fund girls’ dream to visit a foreign country, even become gifts for soldiers or the local food bank. l Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls develop five essential life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. l Sale activities feature age-appropriate lessons that combine business basics with the fun commonly associated with Girl Scout activities. l Girl Scout Cookies teach girls to be strong, confident women. l Every cookie has a mission: to help girls do great things.

Girls of different ages follow different “Journeys” towards developing themselves as leaders. They discover things about themselves and the world around them. They connect with their friends, other Girl Scouts, and families and take action in the community, locally and globally, to make the world a better place.

Girl Scouts of the USA has designed a step by step course for leaders to

for working with existing program materials. This course will show leaders of every age level how to lead the girls through their own leadership experience called GS Journeys as well as instructions on using badges, try-its and interest project patches to enhance the leadership experience for girls and adults.
