It would be the personalcommitment of [the people] tobe caring for one another be-cause it is not enough that thereis no trouble during the papal
visit...[it] should become themost loving event in Metro Mani-la and in Tacloban and the oneto do it would be the millions ofFilipinos who want to see PopeFrancis, ani Villegas sa InquirerConversations, isang porum nadinaos ng INQUIRERsa Universityof Santo Tomas kahapon.

Celebs share acts of contritionin preparation for Papal visit
This topic reminds me of afunny quote: We pay for allour sins, so always ask for a re-ceipt. And this one: Everysaint has a past and every sin-ner has a future.
After the holiday revelry, itstime to be still. May we becomeless worldly to be more worthyof heavens abundant gifts.
for people who should not mat-ter in the order of my life today.
Joanna AmpilI noticed while living inManila that we lack environ-mental awareness. Its evidentin little things, like cleaning upafter yourself in a fast-foodresto or throwing rubbish in abin, let alone segregating recy-
clables. Weve been made stew-ards of these gifts by God and
we need to show a bit of re-spect, love and care. It saddensme that I havent done enoughto rectify this, but I know ittakes more than just one per-son. It is an issue I am verymuch aware of, but all I can dois get even more frustrated andinfuriated. For this, I apologize.
Suzi Entrata-AbreraI would ask the Pope forgive-
ness for thinking ill of otherpeople.
Boots Anson-RoaI would ask forgiveness for
spreading myself too thinmultitasking and forgetting thatI am an aged Wonder Woman:I wonder where I left my keys; I
wonder whose number I dialed;I wonder what the threadaround my finger is for.
By Dolly Anne Carvajal
AS we eagerly await the papal visit,I cornered some celebs and asked:If theres one thing you could ask
forgiveness for from God through PopeFrancis, what would your act of contrition
be like? Mine would be for loving so much, that I for-get to love myself.
Martin NieveraI would ask him to forgive me fortaking up his entire visit to the
Philippines, listening to me enumeratethe things I need forgiveness for.
Christine Bersola-BabaoDear Pope Francis, please ask
God to forgive me for not beingable to forgive some people upto now. They have wronged meand have not apologized.
Jose Javier Reyes[Id ask forgiveness for] the
arrogance of my youth, therecklessness of my more vul-nerable days, my shame-less materialism, buteven more for mistak-ing my career for allof who I am (now Iknow that havinga life goes somuch furtherthan merelymaking a liv-ing). Most im-portantly, [for]
my lack of patience
John ArcillaId ask Pope Francis to bless ourcountry so that corruption would beeradicatednot just among politiciansbut among all of us. There would beno corrupt officials if we did nottolerate them in the first place. We are
guilty of the sin of collaboration. Weare part of the vicious cycle. Ifcorruption were healed, it would easepoverty. May the Pope forgive everyFilipino [including me] for allowingcorruption to flourish in our country.
Rita AvilaJesus knows.
Ronnie LazaroIt is something so private,
that only Pope Francis and myGod would know.
Kim AtienzaId ask forgiveness for
being selfish all theseyears, thinking that lifewas all about my fulfill-
ment, my dreams andmy success. Accepting
Jesus as Lord andSavior taught methat I live to wor-ship, period. As I
seek His kingdom, all I need, plus extra
[things] are added!
Life was never about me; I amtotally powerless. His grace isall I need. Thank You for Yourmercy and overflowing bless-
ings, Lord!

Austria nagpasaringsa Beermen na hindi
marunong sumunodNi Musong R. Castillo
I have to congratulate Alas-ka for a job well done, sinabing malungkot na si Austria. They (Aces) smelled blood, there was an opportunity. On
our part, we panicked.
(We had a) lot ofturnovers, wika ni Austria. It
was good defense by Alaska. Weprepared hard and we know thesituation. But I am not the oneplaying. All I can do is remindthem.
But it (ball) didnt get
there, sinabi ni Austria.
PAUL RYAN TAN/FACEBOOK
Crazy, magical Aces basketballBy Ted Reynoso
SMB coach Leo Austria said hedid not know what hit his team.Alaska rookie mentor Alex
Compton himself said he cannotexplain how his team virtuallycame back from the dead.
Not just once but alreadytwice in just the first threegames of the two teams best ofseven series for the PBA All Fil-ipino championship that Comp-ton and his Alaska squad have
Austria and basketball punditssearching for answers.
I call it crazy basketball. The way the NBA press corps
termed the brand of basketballthe 1995-96 Seattle Supersonicthen piloted head coach GeorgeKarl dished out on the way toand even in its gallant stint ver-sus the magnificent ChicagoBulls ( led by the super duo ofMichael Jordan and Scottie Pip-pen ) in the NBA finals.
I cant help but be remindedof that Seattle team bannered
by Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton,
Detlef Schremf, Nate McMillanand Sam Perkins which pulled
the rugs from under traditionalpower teams in the West as theLA lakers ( Magic Johnson, Ka-reem Abdul Jabbar James Wor-thy ) Houston Rockets ( Ha-keem Olajuwon ) and PortlandBlazers ( Clyde DrexlerDawkins, Terry Porter ) andgave a scare to the Jordan-ledBulls, losing out in six games af-ter clawing back from a 0-3hole ( two in its own homecourt, prompting the sportsheadline, Sleepless in Seattle
with reference to the then verypopular Hollywood movie).
George Karl had devisedsuch unpredictable brand ofplay after he then had conclud-ed that his team would have nochance against the likes of themore talented Western teams asthe Lakers, the Blazers, theRockets and even the Suns (Charles Barkley ) if they wouldplay them conventionally.
The play called for tight,
physical scrambling, hustling
defense anchored by McMillanand Payton, strong inside pres-
ence and rebounding fromKemp and Perkins and fast-breaking offense complimentedby the great outside shooting ofthe Shrimp (Detlef) Schremf, the first German and among thefirst few European cagers to bedrafted in the NBA).
Karls crazy basketball car-ried the Sonics as far as theNBA finals where another bril-liant coach, Phil Jackson de-fused it with better, organizedgame anchored upon the insu-perable Jordan and Pippen andexecuted to perfection by hissteady play-making and clutchshooting corps of guards thatboasted of the tall Toni Kukocand Steve Kerr.
The similarity with the currentPBA finals series involving a gritty, never say die Alaska against a tall, powerful, talent-laden San Miguelis uncanny (except of course, thefinal outcome with Alaska up 2-1as this is written).
Here we have the duo of
Pope brings messageto Southeast Asia
Sonny Thoss and Calvin Abuevawith strong support from ErikMenk and Gabe Espinas takingcare of the boards and anchor-ing a pesky, unforgiving defense
with Vic Manuel and Cris Exi-miniano. The likes of DondonHontiveros and JV Casio pro-
vide instant outside offense. On the other hand, San
Miguel has the more superiorline-up, at least on paper withthe man-mountain June Mar Fa-
jardo and Arwind Santos lead-ing the charge.
Coaching thus far has been thebig difference with rookie mentorCompton outplaying his more se-nior and veteran counterpart.
Will the series go the way ofthe Sonics-Bulls finals in 96? Or
will Alaska provide a differentending to this latest attempt toovercome superior manpowerand skills with some crazy, un-conventional basketball?
