Responding to Gratitude

Directions: Practice with your partner on how to express and respond to gratitude over the situations below or think of a situation of your own. If you need help, you may use the expressions and sentence patterns in the Useful Expressions chart.  

Task 4 Create Your Own Dialogues

1. Thank your employees for their extra effort during the busy holiday season. As a bonus ( 奖金 ), have your employees make out suggestions and place them into the suggestion box. Your employees may suggest a day off with pay, a bonus check, or a company picnic.

2. Thank the person who found and returned your lost wallet. You would like to reward that person, but you have no cash available. For his honesty, offer to buy him dinner at the restaurant next door, or ask for his mailing address so that you can send him something.

3. Thank your friend/office worker for the wonderful birthday gift. Explain what a good and practical gift it is that you received. It is just what you were planning to get yourself. You can decide what type of gift it is.

4. Your car broke down. Your car wouldn’t start when you were leaving late from work. With the policeman’s help, you were able to get your to a garage. Thank the policeman for his help.
