KEVIN COWINDirector, Mace Group and London Development Panel member

Kevin is a Director at Mace Group and is responsible for housing and urban regeneration in London and the South East. In recent years Kevin has led the growth of the Mace business into operating as developer and investment partner in residential and mixed-use property development on public sector land. This has included securing a place on the GLA London Development Panel and City of Westminster Developer Panels, and Mace is currently actively delivering over 1100 new mixed-tenure homes on public sector land through these frameworks.

MAHMOOD FARUQIDirector of Planning, RTKL

Mahmood Faruqi leads the planning and urban design studio in RTKL’s London office. Known for his ability to bridge the gap between buildings and the urban realm to create holistic environments, Mahmood has over 20 years of experience working on a variety of project types around the world. A LEED Accredited Professional, Mahmood has served as a guest critic at MIT and is a committed member of the RTKL Sustainability Leadership Council, which works to integrate environmentally friendly principles into the core of RTKL’s design process.

ROBERT BRAHAMRegional Asset Manager, NHS Property Services Ltd

Robert has a wide experience in estate and facilities management as well as strategic estate planning and consultancy. He has held a number of senior positions in both public and private sector organisations and worked in a variety of sectors, including Healthcare; Education; Transport; and Local Government. For the past year he has been working as the Regional Asset Manager for London in NHS Property Services Ltd, the new company set up to hold and manage the Primary Care estate.

SHERIN AMINOSSEHE Head of Government Estate Strategy & Delivery, GPU

Sherin is the Head of Government Estate Strategy & Delivery for the Government Property Unit and Head of the Government Property Profession across the civil service. She is a Fellow of RICS and member of the RIBA. In her previous life, as an architect, she was a Vice President at HOK, leading large master planning, rationalisation and regeneration projects across the world from Jeddah to St. Petersburg to Bolton.

RICHARD BLAKEWAY Deputy Mayor for Housing, Land and Property, Mayor’s Office

Richard is responsible for overseeing the Mayor’s statutory housing powers. This includes the Mayor’s statutory housing strategy, £3 billion of investment and around 600 hectares of land, including the regeneration of London’s Royal Docks, following the transfer of functions and assets from the London Homes and Communities Agency and the London Development Agency to the GLA. Richard previously worked in the House of Commons, including for the Conservative Party’s policy review, and in 2004 helped launch and edit the International Development Magazine circulated to over 100 countries.

DANIEL BRIDGEPrincipal Development Manager, Strategic Projects and Property, Housing and Land Directorate, GLA

Daniel leads a team responsible for the delivery of the Mayor’s Vision for the Royal Docks. This involves managing the redevelopment of the 254ha estate, key projects include, Royal Albert Dock, Silvertown Quays, Gallions Quarter, Albert Island, Floating Village & Thameside West, which together have a gross development value in excess of £7bn. He is also responsible for the management of the Mayor’s London Development Panel. In previous roles he led on the development of Greenwich Millennium Village, Greenwich Square and Kidbrooke Village. Before joining the GLA he was an Associate Director at AECOM managing the delivery of masterplans, development frameworks and infrastructure delivery plans across the UK and abroad.

DAVID LUNTSExecutive Director of Housing and Land, GLA

David Lunts is the Executive Director for Housing and Land at the GLA where he leads the Mayor’s new housing, land and development functions. He was previously the Executive Director for London at the Homes and Communities Agency and before that was the GLA Executive Director with responsibility for planning, regeneration, housing and environmental policy. His earlier career included a leading role in housing and regeneration in Manchester during the 1980s and early 90s and a three year spell as director of Urban Policy for John Prescott at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

JONATHAN TURNERDirector - Development Consulting, DTZ

Jonathan is the Director in charge of the Midlands Development Consultancy team, he is currently managing a national framework with DCLG to advise on 20 of the UK’s enterprise zones. Jonathan specialises in advising the public sector on how to shape strategic development projects and deliver them in partnership with the private sector. He recently led the Birmingham City Centre EZ advisory role, and is currently leading the Black Country EZ work, both of which have included preparing a bespoke financial model that will be used to underwrite investment decisions over the life of the EZ and arriving at a method for the base-lining of Business Rates.

MIKE STRAWDirector – Government and Public Sector Land Team, CgMs

Mike has advised a wide range of private sector and public sector organisations at CgMs. Mike provides planning advice to local planning authorities, including retail need and impact assessments, acting as their advisors on the negotiation of section 106 agreements, to improving their service delivery and advice to assist them in the implementation of their proposed regeneration initiatives through the planning process. Other public sector work includes advising health trusts in securing consents for the disposal of surplus land and ensuring that their future operational needs are reflected in emerging development planning policy.

DUNCAN SALMONHead of Regeneration, Speechly Bircham

Duncan is a construction specialist who acts across a range of contentious and non-contentious matters. He is regularly recommended for his expertise in construction law in annual legal publications. He is a leader in the regeneration and development sectors. He is described as a “hands-on regeneration expert” by Legal 500 2010 and “refreshingly uncomplicated” and “practical, swift advice with high levels of client care” in Chambers UK 2010. He is currently working on some of the largest and most complex schemes in the country.

STEPHEN MCDONALDDirector of Place, LB Barnet

Stephen is the Director for Place in Barnet. He has significant sector experience in the development industry, working at the public-private interface to make complex, mixed-use and mixed-tenure developments succeed. Before working for ‘Re’ – a joint venture between Barnet and Capita to deliver development and regulatory services to local government in London and the south east – he ran regeneration in Hackney and in Southwark. He has also spent many years working as a senior consultant for KPMG, PwC, Deloitte and PA Consulting.

PETER MURRAYChairman, NLA

Peter trained as an architect and was editor of Building Design and RIBA Journal before starting Blueprint Magazine in 1983. He has curated a number of major architectural exhibitions and is Chairman of the communications consultancy Wordsearch. He is founder of both NLA and the London Festival of Architecture and is author of various architectural books including “The Saga of Sydney Opera House” and “A Passion to Build”. He is a Visiting Professor at IE University in Madrid and Hon. Sec. of the Bedford Park Society.
