COMPANY PROFILE

By the end of Second World War, the Govt. of India was facing

a big problem of disposing collosial war wastes.

A committee report of 1948 proposed the establishment of a

government owned machine tool industry. This was expected to

fulfill two aspects.

The first was utilization of Rs 4000 million worth of

metallic waste.

The second was incorporation of a state owned

manufacturing facility.

The result was the birth of Hindustan Machine Tools

Limited which diversified in due course of time to present

status of the multiproduct industrial giant.

DEFINE THE PROBLEM

Due to high change-over time between the product changes

the company is losing the production and is not able to cope

up with the increasing demands from the customers. Currently

the line is producing low product mix and high quantity which

is piling up WIP

PROBLEM SOLUTION

To reduce set-up time from 2.5 hrs to less than 10 min on

CNC machining line by employing SMED Technique

  OBJECTIVES

To carry out web survey on advanced QCF techniques and

quick change jaws.

To study existing CNC machining line changeover process

methodology. To segregate and optimize internal set-ups and external

set-ups.

To identify similarities in operations between all products

and generalize cutting tools.

CONCLUSION

The Set-up activities are a vital part of the productionlead-time and so affect overall product cost

The Quick Change Fixtures and Quick Change Jaws

were designed and validated through real time

simulation
