142011 10 29www.wasla.anhri.net The End of the July sit in at Tahrir square : The lessons

we should understandNow the Tahrir July Sit in was dispersed

unexpectedly yesterday by orce , it is un-expectedly because all people expected thisto happen sooner or later because o Ra-madan. All expectations were around thatclash between the shops owners o DownTown and the protesters who re used toopen the square or tra fc. From one pointo view it is better that the army and policedispersed because , we cant have anymorecivilians killing civilians.

It is not the end o the revolution or

will be the end o the revolution , with myall due respect as this is not the frst timethe sit in is ended by orce , well remem-ber what happened how it ended in midMarch and how it ended on April 9th. Theonly thing that is di erent rom my view isnot the excessive use o violence that cantjustifed but rather the the loss o publicopinion.

It is easy to blame everyone but it is hardto criticize ourselves.

Public opinions loss :The people are not in the revolutions

side anymore and we need them morethan anything. That group o revolution-ary protesters is insisting that they werethe ones who made the revolution madeit despite they know very well that i ordi-nary Egyptians did not come rom houses ,rom mosques and churches in those hugeprotests that rocked Egypt rom Rashid toAswan , rom Matrouh to Al Arish , even inNew Valley !? Who made those Egyptians godown !?? They all su ered rom Mubaraksregime in a way or another , they all lovetheir country and they want the best or it.

The people especially large sector romthe country including the working andworking classes are ed with the revolution

, some will say that the media brainwashedthem. Objection , the media did not brain-wash them,i the Egyptian media was thatpower ul in brainwashing the people in 6months to turn them against the revolution, why it did not manage to brainwash themall those 30 years o Mubaraks rule. Believeor not people are smart in Egypt and knowwhat to believe and what not to believe.

The martyrs who were killed , the thou-sands who were injured are actually romthose people , the silent majority that spokeloudly or 18 days. Those Egyptians citizens, those millions are the ones that made Tah-

rir square open or millions o Egyptians atthe same time. Those Egyptian citizens arethe true heroes o the revolution.

Ironically Mubarak and his son ignoredthe public opinion and despised as well. Thenext President o Egypt insh Allah will be

    Egyptian Chronicles

    http://egyptianchronicles.blogspot.com

    http://bit.ly/qpQrcs

the servant o the Egyptian people not the

Tahrir square nor that group o revolution-aries , the next parliament o Egypt inshAllah will be based on the votes o the ordi-nary Egyptians.

Revolutionary Group thinking :Some o the revolutionary protesters

are back again to their online cocoon orrather their Tahrir cocoon insisting not tolook outside the square and the surround-ing areas. Most o the public in Egypt arewith the ending o the sit in , ending it withthat level o violence un ortunately.

You will fnd them blaming everybodyrom the media to SCAF to liberals to Is-lamists and the people o Egypt themselvesor rather slave people they do call theEgyptian people as slave who are addictedto live like slaves !!

There is a group thinking obvious amongthese protesters , emotional , irrationaldecisions taken without any logic or un-derstanding to the consequences o thedecision taken because o the revolution-ary romanticism that isolated them romthe reality and what is going on in Egypt ,in real Egypt , with the real Egyptians theydespised. There are huge symptoms o ter-rible dictatorship shown in this group , norespect to other opinions. The ear is that

group is getting more alienated and moreradical to the level they were being used bythe real enemies o the revolution.

This kind o group thinking that re usesto recognize politics and to engage in poli-

tics as they consider it as a de eat or the

revolution because other revolutions inFrance , Cuba and Russia did not play poli-tics frst .. to the end o this talk , well dearriends who said that the Egyptian revolu-tion is like those revolutions !?

The revolutionaries do not rule in Egypt, in act we do not really have a centralizedbody or revolutionaries in this revolution. In the golden 18 days o Tahrir square wehad protesters at the tent city in the squarerom all over the country , rom all politicalpowers and rom all classes.

Infltrators :The ugly truth that was repeatedly

confrmed in incidents like the NorthernMilitary zone HQ in Alexandria , Abassayamarch and the latest July sit in fasco. Inall these incidents we ound out a group oprotesters pushed by another group rominfltrators claiming to be revolutionariesin to clashes either with the army or withthe public or even they attack the army andthe public in order to put the blame on theprotesters.

In Alexandria those who attacked themilitary zone HQ turned to be thugs hiredby a state security o fcer that was spottedin several protests be ore. In Abassaya agroup o protesters according to eye wit-

nesses in the march was not peace ul andhurled stones at the people o Abassaya. Thebig fasco was in July Sit in at Tahrir square, or days and days people have complainedon how the square was infltrated and how

    the security checkpoints were infltrated.

Well it turned out that many o the protest-ers who used to stay day and night at Tah-rir square were actually security agents.According to HYPERLINK http://tahyyes.blogspot.com/2011/08/blog-post.html \t _blank Nawara Negm and others those whowere in avor o escalation actions like clos-ing the Mogamma were those agents. Dur-ing the attack the people in the sit in oundthose provocateurs suddenly wearing armyand police helmets and helping the securityorces to track down the activists !!!

The enemies o the revolution spottedthe romanticism o these revolutionaryprotesters and are using it per ectly. Any-one enters a protest or a sit in with a banneragainst SCAF or screams loud Down withTantawy is now considered a revolutionaryhero and escalation here is the keyword inorder to lose the public that does not wantany split in the army. You must know thatyoung NDP members and Mubaraks utureoundation have joined the protesters asyoung rebels or months now according tomy own sources.

Another encounter with the Mubara-karistas on Wednesday, as their cult leaderwas rolled into ignominy horizontally in awhite tracksuit.

When Sharshar and I arrived at the Po-lice Academy in which Hosny and riendsare being tried we caught the tail end othe frst o a series o rock battles betweenMubarak disciples and protesters who arenot mentally unbalanced.

The Mubarakistas had clearly arrived inthe middle o the night and had appropri-ated the area around a giant screen erectedin the Academys car park. There they heldup pictures o Hosny as well as a giant ban-ner declaring that Mubarak was the frstperson to support and protect the revo-lution. A HYPERLINK http://inanities.org/2010/09/update-your-history-book/ya ta ta3beereyya.

Sharshar quickly identifed the womanwho had enthusiastically ejected him roma Mubarakistas meeting in Roxy Square,Cairo, two weeks ago, and advised us tohang back near the cordon o policemenseparating them rom the anti-Mubarakprotesters.

They were like a bunch o bitter, cluck-ing, grieving widows, even the men. Onewoman next to me quite literally bawled, tears rolling down her cheeks as she lookedat the screen. Next to her a man sobbed and

cursed the bunch o thieving, bribe-takingscumbags rom Tahrir who had so imperti-nently set in motion events that led to theousting o their spiritual ather.

Some were so paralysed by grie thatthey were unable to orm words, so onemiddle-aged woman instead held up themiddle fnger and then her shoe, her aceskewered with rage.

I photographed this and a rankly luna-tic woman next to me who had been bother-ing me or some time began pushing me inthat playschool way that women do whenthey want a fght but dont really, and de-clared that I had photographed the woman

with the shoe. A woman looked on and wasclearly embarassed, until they ound outthat was press when her ace morphed intothe possessed wol look many o them hadand she demanded that I bugger o too.

I couldnt help but laugh, it was all so

A second round o stone throwing begana ter an Anti-Mubarak grappled a Hosnyportrait out o one o the protesters handsand threw it in the air. The police leggedit with the press and le t them to it be oreremembering that their job description ex-tends beyond ball scratching and randomviolence against citizens. They, in the sum-mer whites, were eventually able to orm acordon around the Mubarakistas while theblack-uni ormed riot police cordoned othe revolutionaries in a symbolic sort oway. I overheard one man complaining thatthis decision was a declaration o loyalties.

The Mubarakistas were eventually driv-en out altogether and the Antis reclaimedthe screen, which by this time had taken aew rock blows so that a small black rectan-gle appeared in the middle, which at certainpoints during the trial landed exactly onAlaa Mubaraks eyes, making him look likea sex rapist in a tabloid.

Seeing Mubarak being wheeled into thedock was a moment o intense strange-ness. There was a rush o eeling throughthe crowd when he frst appeared, like a

window bursting open with a gust o wind, but that subsided into what was almost atrance, a little sea o upturned heads silent-ly watching a dynasty unraveling.

Interestingly, the crowd responded muchmore vocally to the appearance o Habib El-Adly. This might have something to do withthe act that in addition to being a murder-ous cunt the man is possibly the smuggestmotha ucker ever to have stretched a legon this planet. He is still smiling, despitethe act that he is currently doing bird a -ter being convicted in a separate case andaces a long stretch i convicted o killingprotesters.

He sat in the dock with his lieutenantsbehind him like a man waiting or an ordero co ee. Occasionally he turned aroundand shared a laugh. A ter the session endedState TV showed him striding out, still grin-ning, and confdently shaking the hand o

a military police soldier. Alaa and Gamallooked less merry but no less confdent. They reminded me o New York gangstason a Miami break, standing sentry in theirtracksuits, legs spread, guarding the god a-ther busily picking his nose behind them.

On his way out Alaa put his palm over thecamera flming him. Think: Britney Spearsmeets the man in your o fce nobody likes.

I have problems with this trial. I dontunderstand why Mubarak is being tried orthree o ences out o 30 years o hell andwhy the charges were brought so quickly. Why not prepare a watertight case? Im

concerned that there prosecution hasntgot the evidence that will prove Mubarakgave the order to kill protesters, and won-der whether under the law just the act thatthe police killed people under his watch isenough to convict him. And what about thesystematic torture? Will neither he norAdly be tried or that?

This trial (i it is indeed a genuine at-tempt to hold Mubarak to account) is moreimportant to Egypts long-term uture thanthe current state o a airs, in that with anyluck it will make potential tyrants thinktwice (or think is it worth getting richvia milking the country dry and silencing

dissent through violent repression at therisk o ending my days in a fve star hospi-tal?)

Unless something really dramatic hap-pens and Tantawy appears and has a melt-down on the stand it wont though a ect

the armys place in the state and its grip onpower. It also wont stop the gangs o plain-clothed men and their gold watches whoare slowly creeping back to their posts, dis-pensing instructions to minions carryingwalkie talkies; fttingly enough there was agroup o six o them strutting around out-side the Police Academy. I recognised oneo them and the only thing di erent abouthim was that he was carrying prayer beads.

This trial is particularly sweet orMo tases generation. Mo tases has beenslightly obsessed with Mubarak ever sinceI met him (him being Mo tases, not Hosny

yuck) in 2007. I remember once asking himabout the obsession and him gripping thesteering wheel tightly and saying some-thing along the lines o that he has beensubjected to Hosny Mubarak every singleday o his li e or 30 years (on television,in newspapers), and that he realised roma tender age that Mubarak was responsibleor all the shit that was happening.

Victories in this revolution are ragile, brie snippets o sunrise between the shad-owy gloom o past disasters and the cloyingheat o an uncertain uture. Despite all thedoubts, the appearance o Mubarak and hissons in a cage, contained, is one o these vic-

    tories.
