An account o the army crackdown on Tahrir

There is a strange silence in the air today...

Another night o army brutality, nearly

1500 protesters were spending the night

in Tahrir square tonight including 30 armyofcers that joined the demonstrations to-

day and remained with the demonstrators

soldiers beating and attacking the civilian

demonstrators , some o them were ami-

lies with children.

Many were injured and others got ar-

rested and many others dispersed running

their own camera and actually taking oot-

age (not sure i its video or photography) o

the broken items. The ootage theyre tak-

ing shows only broken items and NOT thearmy personnel in the process o breaking

them. This seems to be their attempt to set

up their spin on things - what we expect is

that they will use this ootage to try to por-

tray the protesters as violent thugs who

broke chairs and various other items to

use as weapons or that the protesters were

just vandalizing things, etc.

Meanwhile, protesters were chased all

the way to Midan Talat Harb, many injured

are hiding in Omar Makram mosque. Oth-

ers were hiding in the ally o Omar Aandi.

Few amilies were dispersed including

children missing their parents.

By 4.30am protesters started regroup-

ing in Talat Harb and pushed army orces

back to tahrir with stones and barracks

shouting the people wants the down all o

the marshal tantawi (al sha3b yourid isqat

al mousheer). And by 5.30am demonstra-

tors regained Tahrir square.

Its 6.30am now there are ew burned

vehicles and a fre in the museum garden.

Also the sit in, in ront o the Israeli em-

bassy on the Gam3a Bridge was attacked

brutally.

Tens are arrested including the army

ofcers who joined the demonstrators,

What I am scared and worried rom that

understand proessionally that you cant just

criticize or rather accuse in case o Nabil

these dangerous accusations o torture ex-

cept with vital evidences especially now like

photos and videos with testimonies. Ironi-

cally there are video clips or victims alleg-

edly tortured at the Egyptian museum and

up till now the SAFC (Supreme Council o

the Armed Forces) has not yet announced the

results o his investigations regarding these

allegations

Now I am worried that I will ace similar

charges now when I write anything about

the SAFC or the army. Civilians should not be

prosecuted in ront o military courts or God

sake !!

Most o the people online say that this

sentence means that we cant criticize the

army and expose corruption , some even went

a little bit ar and claimed that it is the end

o blogging in Egypt and nobody is sae !!!!!! I

do not remember when blogging in Egypt was

curew? Seriously?); completely trumped

charges (thuggery); and torture.

Eye-witnesses describe how the army has

return to the camp to set up the scene or

what would be their version o the events;

that they were dealing with an unruly bunch

o thugs who had to be handled.

Where does that leave us? Well I reckon an

increasing number o people will fnd it more

difcult to trust the army, whose attacks can

be understood in light o the pressure that

has been building against them.

demonstrations Friday April 1st and April

8th were among the largest, but more impor-

tantly the most ocused on a set o demands

araid to speak. His case is similar to Abdel

Karim Amar by the way.

I do not agree with many o Nabils views

and I am not alone but this court rule is

their act together and DEMAND concrete ac-

tions rom an army that it is eeling, rightly,

that peoples patience is running thin.

In this context then, I view the latest at-

tack ar rom the frst, mind you as the

armys warning to protestors. A stretching o

muscles, i you will. We are being nice to you

but we can be otherwise.

But its a dangerous game the army is

playing. True, we turned to the army to stand

on our side in the ace o Mubarak and his po-

lice. The army knows that we have no one to

turn to now.

But to ourselves. And theres no saying

how this will end.
