3. Setup Method for Thunderbird
IMPORTANT!
You are advised to choose either the POP Server or the IMAP Server which will be described
below. Therefore, please refer to the appropriate section below accordingly.
After configuring the POP/IMAP Server, configure the SMTP server as described below.
Note: Please be informed that another mail box will be created upon changing the
configuration from POP Server to IMAP Server.
Also, if your Thunderbird version is below 6.x, please upgrade it to version 7 and above.
3.1. How to add the POP Server Account
1. Startup "Thunderbird".
2. From [Tools] menu, choose [Account Settings].

3. From [Account Actions], choose [Add Mail Account].
4. Enter the mail account information and click [Continue].

5. Select [POP3 (keep mail on your computer)] and click [Manual config].
6. Configure the mail server as shown below and click [Create Account].
Incoming: POP3, Server hostname: mail.oist.jp, Port: 995,
SSL: SSL/TLS, Authentication: Normal password
Outgoing SMTP Server hostname: mail.oist.jp, Port: 587,
SSL: STARTTLS, Authentication: Normal password
Username: (Please use the provided username. This is the POP/IMAP account.)

3.2. How to Change the POP Server
1. Startup "Thunderbird".
2. From [Tools] menu, choose [Account Settings].

3. Choose [Server Settings] and change the configuration as shown below.
Server Name: mail.oist.jp
Port: 995

Connection security: SSL/TLS
Then, click [OK].

4. Click [Get Mail].
5. Click [OK].
6. Click [Enter New Password].

7. Enter the password provided, and check [Use Password Manager to remember this
password]. Then, click [OK].
8. Confirm that you can receive the mail when you click [Get Mail] button.

3.3. How to Change the SMTP Server
1. Startup "Thunderbird".
2. From [Tools] menu, choose [Account Settings].

1. Startup “Thunderbird”.

6. Configure the mail server as shown below and click [Create Account].
Incoming: IMAP, Server hostname: mail.oist.jp, Port: 993,
SSL: SSL/TLS, Authentication: Normal password
Outgoing SMTP Server hostname: mail.oist.jp, Port: 587,
SSL: STARTTLS, Authentication: Normal password
Username: (Please use the provided username. This is the POP/IMAP account.)
7. Check [I understand the risks] and click [Create Account].

8. Click [OK].
9. Confirm that IMAP account is newly added, and confirm that sending and receiving of
mail is possible without any problem.

4. Setup Method for Mail.app
IMPORTANT!
You are advised to choose either the POP Server or the IMAP Server which will be described
below. Therefore, please refer to the appropriate section below accordingly.
After configuring the POP/IMAP Server, configure the SMTP server as described below.
Note: Please be informed that another mail box will be created upon changing the
configuration from POP Server to IMAP Server.
Configuration of Mail.app differs by Mac OS X versions. Confirm your version as described
below, and apply the configuration in this section where version is specified.
4.1. How to confirm your version
1. Click [ ] and choose [About This Mac].
2. Confirm the version of Mac OS X.

1. Startup "Mail.app".
2. Enter the mail account information and click [Continue].
Full Name: (Enter your name)
Email Address: (Please use the provided email address, but do NOT include the
“@oist.jp” string.)

3. Enter Incoming Mail Server information as shown below and click [Continue].
Account Type: POP
Incoming Mail Server: mail.oist.jp
User Name: (Please use the provided username. This is the POP/IMAP account.)

5. Configure the Outgoing Mail Server as shown below and click [Continue].

7. Startup “Mail.app” again and from [Mail], choose [Preferences].

8. Select the [Advanced] tab, and confirm that the following is configured as shown below.

9. Select the [Account Information] tab, and enter your email address including the
“@oist.jp” string. Then, from the [Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)], choose [Edit SMTP
Server List].

1. Startup "Mail.app".
2. From the [Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)], choose [Edit Server List].

1. Startup “Mail.app” and from [File] menu, choose [Add Account].
2. Enter the mail account information and click [Continue].
Full Name: (Enter your name)
