All Church Skating Party Tonight | 5:30-7:30PM

Bring the whole family for

a fun evening of roller skating

tonight, 5:30-7:30PM at Skate North.

skates for $3. Even if you aren’t a

skater, come enjoy a visit with a

friend—old or new. Concessions

will be available for purchase, too.

Sanctity of Human Life SundayBy Pastor Michael Howland, Youth Pastor

January 20th is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. We believe

that life begins at conception. This year our student ministry

wants to make a difference and help a local pro-life ministry

so Heirborn Student Ministries is throwing a baby shower for

Ruth Harbor Ministries. Ruth Harbor is a home away from home

for many young women who become pregnant. Ruth Harbor

provides security and safety in a

loving, family-style home. Hous-

ing, food, and healthcare areprovided at no charge, giving

these women the support they

need to work and save for their

future or pursue educational and

career opportunities. While at

Ruth Harbor, women receive excellent prenatal care and nutri-

tious meals that are essential to their health and the health of

their babies. They also receive weekly Christ-centered counseling

and information on both parenting and adoption options. Weekly

classes will provide information to help each mother prepare for

her future and that of her baby.

Our particular baby shower is a little different than the

average baby shower. We won’t be giving diapers, baby bottles, etc—instead, we will be sharing gifts with this pro life ministry

that will help meet office and care/ministry needs. Teens will

enjoy lunch, cake and punch as they listen to Mark McDougal

share more information about this ministry as well as hear testi-

monies from two mothers directly impacted by this ministry. If

you feel led to help, check out their list of needs at this web link:

http://www.ruthharbor.org/rhwishlist.htm

First ImpressionsBy Gary L. Jaehnel, Facilities Manger

When you visit someone’s

house for the first time, do you

look around as you walk in their

door? Is your impression of

them somewhat based on where

and how they live? The same

can be said of people walking

in our front doors here at church

for the first time.Starting later this month, we

are going to make some changes

to the foyer with the objective of

making guests feel welcome and

comfortable as they arrive and

leave through our front doors.

At the same time, we are going

to create some small gathering

areas where people can meet and

talk before and after the services.

Here is some of what you’ll

begin to see happen:

• Existing chairs and tables

will be arranged in the

north “V” of the foyer to create a designated Guests’ Recep-

tion area between the glass entrances to our facility.

• The Mission displays and tables are going to be replaced

with a new, updated wall display system.

• Existing chairs and tables will be arranged to create small

meeting areas on the east and west sides of our foyer.

• The Information and Resource areas will be painted a dif-

ferent color and include new signage to immediately attract

guests’ attention as they enter.

A committee of visionaries, designers and technical peoplehas been formed to make this dream a reality. We’ll start with

these simple improvements for a short trial period then regroup

to determine what other changes are economically possible to

improve the overall image and feel of the foyer. Ideas are already

being considered, including paint, rugs, banners, signs, new

furniture, etc.

These enhancements are consistent with the theme of “New

Beginnings” at First Federated as we strive to engage the

community around us. We hope you’ll be excited about these

upcoming changes.

Paul & Violette BridgmanMission Board: TEAM

Location: Japan

What do they do? The Bridgmans

serve as church planters who have established Sanyo Grace

Church. They reach out through evangelistic meetings, aground golf club, English classes, American culture, Bible

and cooking classes. Paul, the son of missionary parents, was

born and raised in Japan. Their son, Jeffrey, is a student at

Arkansas Tech University and Kevin attends high school at

Christian Academy, Japan, away from his parents.

Prayer Requests:

• For good follow-up of those who attended their Christmas

meetings—they had record attendance.

• For more opportunities to witness to ground golf club mem-

bers and kids.

• For wisdom as they counsel church members struggling with

personal problems.• For spiritual growth and unity of the believers, future evan-

gelistic events, personal financial support to improve.

• For plans for Sanyo Church to purchase land and build a

building.

Modern Day SlaverySome Statistics on Child SlaveryBy Operation Mobilization

• 3000 enslaved Albanian children are used for begging,

cleaning windows and cars without

wages in Italy and Greece.

• An estimated 496,000 children are inslavery in Bangladesh.

• Over 10-20 million people are subject-

ed to debt bondage largely in India,

Bolivia, Brazil, Peru and Philippines.

• Of 20 million bonded laborers in Pakistan, 7.5 million are

children.

• Of 35 million soccer balls stitched in Pakistan, children

produce one-quarter. Most of them are bonded servants.

• Nearly 500,000 minors work in virtual slavery conditions in

Senegal.

• Restavek—the sending of children to serve as unpaid domes-tic labor for more affluent city dwellers—flourishes in Haiti.

UNICEF estimates that 25,000-30,000 children, 85% of

them girls, are victims of this practice.

• It takes up to 15 years for girls in India held in prostitution

via debt bondage to purchase their freedom.

MISSION ONE  Reaching others for Jesus Christ

Pat AmsdenMission Board: Camp Appanoose, Inc.

Location: Iowa

What does he do? Pat serves as Executive

Director of Camp Appanoose, over-

seeing and planning camp programswith the goal of introducing young people to Jesus Christ

and challenging them for productive service. Located near

Lake Rathbun in rural Plano, the camp is both seasonal and

year-around. The summer of ’07 was the first year for camp-

ers to enjoy the spacious facilities of an indoor gym/play

area, new kitchen and cafeteria, restroom and shower facili-

ties.

Prayer Requests:

• For Pat as he is now writing lessons for this summer. The

theme is Frontier Games, reflective of an Olympic year--tell-

ing the story of the great athlete, Saul of Tarsus.

• For the newly formed Friends of Camp Appanoose as theycommunicate camp needs and organize various volunteer

projects.

• For planning the upcoming camp season.

• For summer campers, volunteers and staff needs.

• For funds to complete the new chapel area, monthly and

long-range financial needs.

Glenn & Carol, Three ChildrenLocation: Closed Country

What do they do? Glenn and Carol serve as tentmakers in a

predominately Muslim country where residents and tourists

are forbidden to give testimony of Christ in their lives. Theyare team leaders of six adults and are involved in church

planting and the translation, editing and printing of the New

Testament and prayer booklet in the national language. Carol

is the daughter of Herman and Naida Reeve.

Prayer Requests:

• Praise: their country has seen more Muslim background

believers getting into discipleship/fellowship groups.

• Carol just participated in the first-ever women’s conference

in their country—ask for ongoing growth and unity among

the women.

• For Glenn as he travels north to another closed country

January 21-31 to encourage and motivate Christians there toreach out to Muslims in their country.

• Ask for safety, words of wisdom and for hearts to be open.

• For all the details as they make future plans to return to the

States for 1 year—something they have not done in 18 years.

Put on Your ArmorOur K-2nd graders are

learning about the armor of

God in KZ Church. Ephesians

6 tells Christians to “Put on the

full armor of God so that youcan take your stand against the

devil’s schemes.”

Last week we learned about

the belt of truth. In Bible times,

a belt served a little different

purpose than it does today. Men

and women both wore long

robes or togas. When they wanted to go somewhere in a hurry,

they would gather the ends or flowing parts of their clothing into

their belts. In Bible words, they would “gird their loins” to help

them move easily and keep them from stumbling.

The belt of truth keeps us from stumbling, too. So, where do

we find our belt of truth? In God’s Word, the Bible! When weread the Bible, we gird (or wrap) ourselves in truth. When we

attend church, we wrap ourselves in truth. When we act as Jesus

would act, we wrap ourselves in truth, too. So, wrap yourselves

each day in truth. You’ll be able to move forward and not

stumble!

Attention, Parents of 5th and 6th Graders• Do the forks go on the left or right side of the plate?

• Isn’t “YO!” an acceptable way to answer the phone?

• Why not talk with my mouth full or put my elbows on the

table...after all, we’re just family?

• Nobody writes thank you notes anymore!• Who cares about all of this stuff anyway?

Does any of this sound familiar? Would you like a little help?

We think we have just the thing for your preteen! “Manners

Made Easy” starts Wednesday, January 23, 6:30-8:00PM, in the

Xtreme Room (205). Even if your child doesn’t usually attend on

Wednesday nights, they are welcome to join XtremePM for this

new, special course. It’s free and it’s going to be FUN!

Make sure your student comes with an appetite the first night

of “Manners Made Easy!” We will be serving dinner to kick off

this course.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRYA New Year’s PoemBy Sybil G. Bockert

The New Year is starting- isn’t it exciting?

And all my resolutions, I’ve just finished writing.

“I’m going to be patient,” “I’ll be angry no more”

Too late, I remember, as I slam the door.

I’ll read some good books, to take away my cares

Tonight, here I am, with “Goldilocks & the Three Bears”

“I’m going to exercise, at the mall I will walk”

Then I meet my friends, and all we do is talk

“I’ll go to bed early and get some rest”

The “Boob tube” won that one- I failed the test.

“I won’t yell at the kids” and I feel so smug

Then I SCREAM when they come home

and track mud on the rug

“I’m going to lose weight and I’ll look so neat”

Then, after dinner, I “pig out” on sweets

“Gossip? No never, I won’t say a word

But while I’ve got your attention, do you know what I heard?”Cool and collected, while driving, I’ll be

“Did you see that idiot? He cut in front of me!”

“I’ll be ready early,” I promise my mate

He is patiently waiting- Guess who is late!

I’ve failed so miserably, I’m sitting there crying

My husband consoles me- But honey, you’re trying

I read my devotions at dawn’s early light

Well, what do you know! I did something right!

So here’s my advice as you start the New Year

Try to improve and to Jesus stay near.

SympathyOur sympathy is extended to Melvin Wellen and family at the

death of his wife, Shirley, on January 12.

Please Pray for John PorterShort-term Mission Trip to India

John Porter will be traveling in India

January 17–February 2. In 2004, FFC committedto support 10 Indian pastors with Mission India, an

organization that supports national ministry. We

prayed for these young men, assisted with the cost

of their Bible training, and moving out into minis-

try. John will be visiting these established churches, their schools,

and children’s ministry, which we still support. On January 26 he

will meet up with two of our own missionaries in the northern part

of India, checking out their ministries and how FFC can become

more actively involved. Pray for God’s leading, safety, health and

opportunities for our future.
