Day One Link Hayden to Rangely Route Map We’ll  begin  the  day  with  a 30 minute shuttle to Hayden Town Park. Shuttle pick up times for people and luggage only (no bikes).

5:00 AM Holiday Inn 5:15 AM Hampton Inn 5:30 AM Rabbit Ears Motel

Locals, please meet us at one of the above locations.

After  a  short  safety  and  route  talk  we’ll  have  time  to  fuel up with drink, and a few goodies and we’ll  be  on our way to Rangely. Heading West we pedal through ranch country and through rural towns of Craig, Hamilton. Our biggest climb of the day is a 1300 ft climb over 9 mile gap summit. It is followed by 10 miles downhill taking us into the town of Meeker, an agriculture focused town in the white river valley. Leaving Meeker we ride through the pastoral valley as we follow the white river to Rangely. Leave some fuel in the tank for a few rollers toward the end of the day. Take a dip in Kenny Reservoir which sits just 7 miles outside our destination for the night, Rangely Colorado. Shuttle  options  available  in  the  afternoon  if  you’d  prefer a shorter ride. Dinner  is  in  the  hotel’s  new  Bar and Grill.

Day Two: Link Rangely to Vernal Route Map Wake up and grab breakfast buffet at the hotel; available at 6:00 AM. Step outside where you can grab snacks and fuel for the day then head out on the open road. A cooler temperature in the morning is the time  to  begin  the  10  mile  “stair-step”  climb  out  of  Rangely.      The  first  leg  of  our  ride  takes  us  to  Dinosaur.    We then back track, avoiding Hwy 40, to ride  quiet  “back  roads”  among  oil  fields  and  through  the  “town”  of Bonanza, UT. (which name refers to a rich mineral strike). Scenic red rocks and a few short but steep hills as we roll into Vernal. Lunch will be at a town park just down the street from our hotel. There will be various options for dinner spots which will provide more variety for dining in Vernal on a Sunday night. A list of nearby restaurants and a gift card to cover the cost of dinner will be provided. Did you know: Vernal, UT sits on the Western edge of the Colorado Plateau. The area is known for some of the best fly-fishing and hunting in North American. Major economy of the town is derived from extraction of oil and natural gas. Population 9,000ish

Day Three: Link Vernal to Altamont Route Map Breakfast buffet at the hotel available from 6:00 – 9:30 AM. Today’s  shorter  ride  at  51  miles  lets  us take a more relaxed start to the AM. Grab snacks, fuel outside and hit the road. The morning begins with a scenic, rolling ride to LaPoint. Small towns and rural roads are the theme of today as we make our way to LC Ranch. Indulge in an end of ride ice cream at the Bluebell store – you earned it! Then, continue a mile down the road to LC ranch, a rustic fly-fishing/hunting lodge quite literally in the middle of nowhere! Shuttles will be offered up the last mile to the lodge for the rocky dirt road. Picnic lunch at LC and an afternoon to put your feet up and relax. Dinner is a fabulous BBQ provided by chef Callie and the rest of the crew. Note: the water system at LC is delicate. Short showers and a general awareness of water conservation are needed for our group stay. Sleeping accommodations are in main lodge, several separate cabins, and 10 people in sleeping bags in the yurt.

Day Four: Link Altamont to Park City Route Map We begin our day bright and early with breakfast available at 5:30. The plan is to stagger ride start times so that we all arrive at the top of Wolf Creek Pass (mile 58) in the same  general  time  frame.    (We’ll  make  final  plans as a group the night before). We climb about 3000 feet to reach Wolfcreek pass which sits at 9500 feet and is surrounded  by  Utah’s  Uintah mountain range. Wow! After a SmartWool team photo at the top, enjoy the exhilarating downhill off the pass – cruising for nearly 30 miles. Our last bit of ride takes us on some rollers along Browns Canyon rd. and into Park City, Utah for a post ride celebration a Squatters Roadhouse. Pat yourself on the back for an epic cycle well done! Shuttles to downtown SLC hotels wrap up the day Note: if you are not going to a downtown SLC Hotel, please arrange your own transportation from Park City

What do you plan to do with your bike after the ride? Ship bike from Park City: Jans bike shop is right down the street from Squatters (end of ride). Cost is $40 + tax for packing + $125 shipping anywhere in US (lower 48). Contact Jans @ (435) 649-4949 (ask for the bike shop) and make a reservation to insure a fast turn-around. Jay Winn is the bike shop manager but anyone in the bike shop can take your reservation. Ride to OR Team transports your bike back to Steamboat and delivers it to SmartWool Headquarters – cost is $20. Your bike is shuttled with you into SLC at the end of the ride. It is important that we know if you would like your bike shuttled to SLC. Post Trip Hotels Suggestions Hilton Salt Lake City Center Little America Salt Lake City

HOW SHOULD I BE TRAINING? Those of you who are experienced cyclist you know what you need to do. For those of you who are new to cycling and multi-day, lengthy rides; training & proper nutrition will be important. Check out these web-based resources: www.bicycling.com www.ridetherockies.com/training www.livestrong - train for 100 WHAT  IF  I  CAN’T  FINISH  THE DAY? We highly encourage everyone to work towards finishing  each  day.  If  you  need some  extra  assistance,  that’s what  we’re  here  for!  A  support vehicle can take riders into the hotel for the night when the situation arises. WHEN/WHAT IS AT EACH AID STATION? You can expect aid stations every 25 – 30 miles depending on the day’s  route. Water, Hammer energy products, Coke, bananas, pretzels, PB & J sandwiches, m&ms, dried fruit, salty snacks.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TOUR? (Or, how much money should I bring?) Included in the tour: all meals except for 1 dinner (in Vernal), snacks, accommodations, route directions, support, aid stations, daily luggage transfer, shuttle  to  final  SLC  hotels.

HOW DO I GET TO THE RIDE? Steamboat Springs is approximately 166 miles (3.5 driving hours) from Denver. We suggest  flying  into  Denver  International (DEN) and taking a shuttle to Steamboat or flying into Steamboat/Hayden (HDN). Check out www.goalpine.com for airport shuttles. We suggest arriving the day or two days before in order to get acclimatized, prepare your bike and yourself for the ride!

HOW DO I GET HOME FROM THE RIDE? You  can  fly  out  of  Salt  Lake City international airport (SLC) to most destinations. At the end of the ride there will shuttles to downtown SLC hotels – see suggested hotels on the previous page. You can take a shuttle service to the airport (www.expressshuttleutah.com) or a taxi from downtown can be arranged from your hotel. CAN I GET CELL SERVICE/ WIFI? In most places, yes. There are a few parts of the ride and one night (LC Ranch-night 3 ) where cell service is limited and wifi  is  unavailable.  Bringing cell phones is a great idea, just grab a few ziplock bags to safely keep them from moisture they can encounter during a day’s ride.
