    . ABSTRACT

    This research sheds lights on Shura and democracy, and the relationship between them, along with the common platforms that bring them closer together in theories and concepts. Shura which is one form of participation in governance springs its roots from Islam. It's considered major Islamic rule that explains the relationship between the Muslim ruler on one side and Shura experts on the other side. In return democracy is socio-political system that linked with the west since the Greek time till western democracies in the present times. Since its inception, democracy in contemporary literatures connected with the practical experiments where it considers one aspect of western civilization.

    Democracy is a form of governance that organizes the relationship among individuals, society and state from the perspective of equality among citizens. Democracy further guarantees participation in legislation and law making that organizes normal life on the basis of nation as source of powers. This research includes debating various views in Islamic thoughts in connection with the issue of relationship between Shura and democracy starting from Arab renaissance thinkers such as Mohammed Abdo, Mohammed Rashid Rida and Jamal Elddin Alafghani, passing through Hasan Albanna and Taqai Elddin Anbahani and ending with contemporary thinkers. This research covers the principle theses of three Islamic schools that tackled the issue of relationship between Shura and democracy. These schools are Arab renaissance in the 19th century and early 20th century, Muslim brotherhood and Islamic liberation party.

    The importance of this research springs from tackling the very complex issue in light of governance crisis in the Arab and Muslim worlds, and in the light shadow of increasing impacts and repercussions of globalization of politics, media and culture. The research relied on group of primary and secondary sources like books, journals and the writings of the Muslim thinkers themselves who flooded in their thoughts in this regard
