Akbayan empowers SJSUstudents physically through athletics such asFriendship Games and intramural sports, mentally through the discus-sions at our general meetings and community events, and sociallythrough the vast amount of opportunities to make new friends.Through significant campus involvement, Akbayan has been acknowl-edged as both the Cultural and Student Organization of the Year (2010-2011) among the hundreds of organizations on campus.

Akboyon's Kuya/Ate Ading Mentorship Program (recently known as KAAMP) started1995 as an outreach program for Pilipino youth. This program evolved from a collabotive after-school program with the Filipino Youth Coalition (FYC) of San Jose. KAAMaimed to create lasting friendships among Akbayan members, old and new, as wellwelcoming newer members as they transition into college life. Those who are interested

being mentors apply to be a Kuya or Ate, which means older brother or sister,andyounger members who wish to be mentored apply as an Ading, which means a younfamily member. KAAMP strives to create meaningful relationships by allowing membersbe immersed in a community of college students that work as a family throughout th

college careers.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMAkbovoris Internship Program prepares its students to become lead-ers, whether in the organization as Cabinet members or in their ca-reers. Instructed by a nominated Internship Coordinator, the Internsdevelop organizational skills,responsibility, analytical skills,confi-dence in public speaking, and knowledge on the progress of thePilipino/Pilipino-American that goes beyond the general meetings ofthe organization. Interns essentially become closer to Akboyon's cur-rent Cabinet members while learning what it takes to be a Cabinetmember of Akbayan to possibly attain those Cabinet positions.Akooyon's Internship Program provides the organization with Interns toreadily assist Akbayan in achieving its goal is spreading communityand cultural awareness amongst Pilipinos.

2011 PCN GALA NIGHT CLOSING

Akbayan isnoted for manystudent ran events, among them isPilipino Culture Night show (PCN).During this event, the organization'smembers are given a chance toperform traditional dances hailingfrom different regions and provinceof the Philippines. In addition, bud-ding writers get a chance to writeout scripts reflecting theirPilipino/Pilipino-American lives. Thespirit of PCN is all about having fucreating friendships, and getting tknow more a bout thePilipino/Pilipino-American culture.

Throughout the Foil Semester, Akbayangets ready for Friendship Gomes. Friend-ship Gomes is a highly anticipated eventwith over 6,000 individuals from over 30colleges and universities across the notionthat come together to ploy fun, friendly,and competitive picnic gomes, it is oIso aday of unforgettable entertainment withroll-call and cheer performances. To getready for this event, Akbayan holds doneeworkshops and games practices for thosewho wont represent Son Jose State and

join us at CSU Fullerton.
