中秋嘉年華樂繽紛

今年的八月十五月亮既圓且大，對於移居佛州的華僑家庭，每年都會渡過一個炎炎的中秋節。中佛州中美協會

於星期六黃昏前舉辦了一個別開生面的中秋嘉年華活動，旨在為就讀於中佛州中華學校的二百多名學生，提供一個中國傳統節慶活動。

　嘉年華活動由四時至七時於Winter Park Nine Grade Cen-ter內進行，中美協會長周曼宜律師帶領會中內閣成員，聯同中佛州大學亞裔學生義工團，中午十二時便已抵達現場開始佈置嘉年華遊樂設施，並掛上中秋燈籠以增加中秋氣氛。

　百多名中華學校學生放學後，便立即飛奔前往設在籃球場內十多個大小不同種類的遊戲攤位，勝出的小朋友可獲換物券，集齊一定數量的換物券，便可往大堂換領各種類的玩具與精品。嘉年華更置有兩組大型吹氣跳跳遊戲屋及障礙賽隧道，小朋友都無懼烈日當空，盡情飛奔狂跳。小朋友更可獲增棉花糖。

　學生的家長們自然不會參與此類刺激活動，留在學校食堂享用各式美食。中美協會誠邀Winter Park的金漢海鮮酒家、香江樓和鳳城海鮮酒家等贊助精美小食，還提供月餅、小燈蘢和應節楊桃；台灣佛教慈濟慈善事業基金會特別為嘉年華活動精製數款素食作籌募義賣。而中華學校家長特備安排月餅試食，給予各位中外家長們一同共嚐中秋風味。　　嘉年華另一項活動，由各班級的老師帶領著學生到台前，表演給予沒有參與遊戲活動的家長們欣賞，小朋友朗誦中文詩詞，清唱中文歌曲，唱兒歌，新派爵士舞，羅禮功夫班同學的表演，和少不了的女同學組成的雜技表演。中佛州大學菲律賓裔同學會情商客串表演竹舞，最後更邀請在座小朋友觀眾一嚐試跳竹舞。中美協會更破天荒邀請得Winter Park消防局，特別派出有雲梯設備的消防車前來助陣，小朋友都高興上前參觀和跟消防員合照。Winter Park消防局派出公關Diane Kes-sluk設置一個攤位，送給在場的大小朋友精美紀念品，和一本以中文印製的消防知識小冊子。

活動熱鬧豐富節目吸引中外僑胞同歡共慶佳節

中佛州中華學校校長俞孟貞

歲末終年之際，末學在此向中佛州中華學校全體師生，家長，以及護持者，致以最親切的問候和崇

高的敬意，願大家歲歲平安，步步高升！

　貳零零陸學年度秋季班已於十二月中旬圓滿結束；學校今年步入二十七年，全體師生仍然以前所未見的熱勁，努力推廣並學習中文，學生人數不僅疾步成長，達到近三百人，學習成果更是前所未見的進步，讓人稱奇！

　當一股中文學習熱持續高漲的時候，學校也將於明年春季元月十三日開學當天增設母語非中文的成年人第三個班級以及大學SAT II的中文學習班，中文在美國已成為僅次於西班牙語的第二大外國語言，使用中文的人口眾多，中國經濟的猛速發展在國際社會上扮演了重要的角色，而美國對多元文化的不斷需求，在可預見的未來，相信中佛州很多學校將陸陸續續開辦中文課程，以配合大學理事會將舉辦的大學進階先修課程中文第二外語的考核！

　大學進階先修中文課程和考試相當於在大學學習外國語言第二年的水平；閱讀中文、（繁體字、簡體字兩種皆用）中文寫作。和中文聽寫能力是Advanced Placement （簡稱AP）中文課程的一個整部份。大學理事會AP Chi-nese 雖剛起步，中華學校衷心希望同學，家長和老師們一起努力熱烈推廣中文，使中文順利打入美國主流！中華學校將於三月十七日參與全美中文學校聯合會SAT II中文模擬考試，我們鼓勵高班同學報名參加，多多練習中文！學校全心全力製造中文機會，但願大家配合支持，使中文熱更熱！

Message from the desk of Conchita Hsu, Principal of Chinese School of CAACFMy compliments of the season and best regards to all students, parents/guardians, grandparents, friends and supporters of Chinese School of CAACF !

The 2006 Fall term is over for Chinese School. With all the good remarks that kept pouring in to the school, it certainly appears students and teachers have not rested on our previous successes, but worked even harder to bring more enthusiasts to Chinese proficient achievement levels. This year enrollment has steadily in-creased to 259 or more with 49 students receiving T A S A : Test of Accumulated Scholastic Award, while 7 of our students were honored with the Asian American Heritage Council of Central Florida Outstanding Student!

While the study of Chinese heat is on, I proudly announce the addition of a new class for non-Chinese adult speaker upon our return on the 13th of January, 2007 taught by an experienced teacher. We will also be offering for the first time a SAT II Chinese class in this coming 2007 Spring term from January 13th to May 12th. Our school recently received numerous students with SAT II Chinese scores of 700 and above in their first attempt of the subject test of College Board SAT II- Chinese. A score of 600 (out of 800) or above is good enough to be credited as one year foreign language course at many colleges, even at the Ivy Leagues! We take pride in our students’ achievements and encourage all students to take SAT II Chinese during their junior or senior high school year! Before taking the real SAT test, our school recommends students to take the National Chinese School Association SAT II practice test on March 17, 2007 which will be held at our school. This score is not recorded and is a good way to test your skill without ever worrying the college or anyone to see it. SAT II Chinese Practice Test at our school is offered every other year. Any one who has studied Chinese for five years or more has the option to register for it. It may just seem like a practice test, but our school highly recommends it, as it will get you to familiarize and get you ready not only for the real SAT II Chinese but also for the College Board first time ever Advanced Placement Chinese Examination coming up next year!

Keep your Chinese going, and the day will come that you really will appreciate the time you spent learning Chinese at our school! On behalf of Chinese School, I thank all of you for your continued involvement and participation. Without your effort, our school won’t be one of the premieres in State! Give

yourself a pat and I will see you on the 13th of January!

Chinese version follows. Kindly mark your calendar for Chi-nese New Year ‘s Celebration on February 18 and February 24 ! Exact time and details will be provided to each class as the date approaches. Chinese School takes this opportunity to thank CAACF and all school personnel for an enjoyable Mid-Autumn Festival held for the first time ever at our site last October 7th. Our students amazed the crowds with their excellent Chinese skits, Chinese songs/ poems, acrobats and Chinese folk dances!

美國亞裔學生獎學金頒發晚宴於十二月二日假座Ivanhoe Plaza Hotel舉行，Asian American Hertiage Council完滿頒發共廿多

個獎學金予分別就讀小學，中學及大學的成績優良學生。當晚到場中外賓客接近二百名，他們分別來自中佛州中美協會，中國專業人士協會，越南商會，菲律賓商會，印度商會及其他多個亞裔社團。最難得是看見一班亞裔學生上台領獎，主持更讀出幾篇參賽學生的文章，當中表達了他們對自己身為亞裔移民新一代的感受。最開心高興的莫過於台下欣賞的家長們。

　獎學金評選委員會除了考慮學生的學術成績，亦非常著重學生們的領導才能，課外活動及義工參與。亞裔於社區的參與性跟其他居美的族裔比較一向偏低，很希望新的一代能早日察覺到社區參與的重要性，一個人的優越並不會使國家興旺，這個是大會希望傳遞給亞裔僑胞的訊息。

　是夜除了頒發獎狀和獎金外，大會特別安排了三個表演項目，分別是Jenny Tong表演的小提琴獨奏，Natasha Lavender與Celeste Hou演出的中國民族舞，及壓軸的菲律賓竹舞，更難得是邀請在座嘉賓一嘗跳竹舞的樂趣，身為家長的David and Jenny率先一試，帶動全場興奮至高潮，這果真帶給孩子們無限的鼓勵。

The Asian Student Achievers Scholarship awards program provides opportunities to students in the areas of leadership, commu-nity service and diversity while recognizing and rewarding their outstanding scholastic achievements with scholarship grants. In 2006, more than $7000 was awarded. “Stu-dent Achievers’ Scholarship Fund” which is annually distributed to deserving Asian American students in the area to encourage them to strive for excellence in their studies, and to participate and volunteer in commu-nity activities. The awards were given out to qualified students in Elementary School Lev-el, Middle School Level, High School Level,

Asian American StudentAchievers Awards- Presented by Asian American Heritage Council and

its 34 Asian American organization partners.

1st Oriental Supermarket agreed to donate a certain per-centage of its reward card sales to The Chinese School of CAACF for the purpose of promoting Chinese language and cultural education in the community. Each reward card will contain 20 blocks with a value of $10 for each unit. Reward card will be marked after each qualifying purchase.
