GLOBAL SCHOLARS/ BENVIURE SCHOOL

We were 51 6th graders working together in this final project in Benviureschool.First of all, we had a class discussion to select one of the issues we havelearned about this year; then we determined our goal and identify a strategyfor this final project.We looked for some inspiration and we decided to build an EDIBLESCHOOL GARDEN so we could learn how sustainable, organic food choicescan taste good and make us feel great.We think that these choices can transform our health and the health of ourplanet.We decided to carry out four different projects ( insect hotel, Aquaponicssystem , bottle tower gardening and pallet vertical garden).Next step: doing research about our projects .Our Maths and Science teachers ( David and Jos Lus helped us with theresearch and plan all the materials we needed, draw the projects, calculatemeasures and percentatges, draw a sketch)

Aquaponics is the combination of Aquaculture and Hydroponics. The greatthing about aquaponics is that it simulates

a real life eco system where the bacteriaprocess the fish waste from nitrites intonitrates which can then be absorbed by

the plants and then returning clean waterback to the fish.

RECYCLED PALLET VERTICAL GARDEN

Pallet gardening is very easy and cheap todo. We have turned old pallets into anedible vertical garden.

Insect hotels provide a place for insects to hibernate during winterand are a way to encourage insect pollination in our garden. Theyalso can attract helpful insects who will naturally prey upon pests andtherefore keep our garden pesticide free.

PLASTIC BOTTLE VERTICAL GARDEN

We have used plastic bottles to make something amazing outof them : grow some of our favorite plants outdoor. We have

installed an Automatic Plant Watering System to Water the

plants.
