Marketing Ideas for Small Businesses Using Twitter   For a more detailed version of this article on Twitter marketing, please visit:  http://bit.ly/1WZxWZr  Twitter is a ‘righttothepoint’, social media platform that allows you to share a post containing 140 characters (or less). It is created this way to enable short, sweet, ‘Tweets’, updating your followers on the goings on in your life or business. Lately, many businesses have found the gold mine of advertising and content marketing via Twitter and other social media platforms to be tremendously successful. With that said, this article will be focusing on Twitter alone and some advice when setting up, posting, and researching across the platform.    Name

● Pick something either identical or close to your other channels and business. ● This allows for instant brand recognition.

 Images

● Can select two different picture options (personal/company and cover). ● Use the cover for your company’s logo or banner as it is much bigger.

  Profile Details

● Include three major components in your details (your location, your company link, and a short summary of what you provide).

● Only 160 characters are allowed so keep it simple.   Following

● Follow every customer that you have who follows you or buys something from you. ● Follow related businesses, contractors, suppliers, and other of the like. ● Keep your tweets or messages directly about your business and what you offer. Also

include how they will benefit from it. ● Send congratulatory tweets or wish happy birthday to your followers to create a sense of

caring and community (this will help you greatly down the road).

Share Content via Tweets

● Share links to your content, such as blog posts, updates, or company information, via tweets, adding a little message (if it will fit) about what the link provides.

● Link your Twitter account to your website so updates are carried out automatically.  Video and Images

● Tweets with images are 4 times more likely to be viewed as they are more attractive and engaging.

● Make the picture relevant to your topic or post, otherwise you will not be taken seriously in the future.

● Videos through links are also handy to get views and cross promote your channels/website.

● Funny videos are always popular.   Use Hashtags Often

● You can find #hashtags everywhere these days so use them to your advantage in tweets.

● Use popular or trendy hashtags to promote your tweets to millions of other people if you’re lucky.

● Create some of your own, but this will take some serious marketing or event to take off. ● Use #hashtags in all of your tweets. ● Try to get involved in popular and trending conversations related to your

business/company/brand. ● Use the same #hashtags in multiple posts to increase your chances of gaining followers

and reaching more Twitter users. ● Increase awareness and amplify your social circle using #hashtags.

  Reach Out to Other Users/Companies

● Take a look at the users or companies that AREN’T following you yet and reach out to them via direct message or tagging them in a tweet.

● Introduce yourself, inform any plans you have, or see if they would like to cross promote. ● Discounts are great ways to get people/companies to follow you by simply offering them

in exchange for the likes or follows. ● Simply following other companies and users may net you some follows of your own. ● Retweet any posts that you find interesting in order to stand out and get their attention. ● Benefit from two audiences by sharing your network with each other and promoting one

another.

When you take on all of the above advice, you will begin to see that every day, new followers will be added to your account, and likes, retweets, and (especially) exposure will increase into something like a snowball effect. Your audience will grow out of control so make sure that when it does, you have enough content and post frequently to stay on their radar. Good luck!
