Service 1
Welcome Empire! It’s good to be creating another newsletter since I know we skipped October. However, the divisional website was launched so if you haven’t checked it out already, go for it! http://kelchancki.wix.com/empire I’m glad to hear that everyone’s been doing well and completing so many service hours. How do I know this? Because all MRF’s from Empire have been sent in! I love hearing about your “CKI moment” stories and the events you’ve been attending. This was extremely evident at the attendance of both DLSSP and NYS. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who came to the October divisional meeting once again. It was one of the most successful meeting all year and I’m anticipating for us to keep this trend up.

Kid’s Day at La Guardia Airport
Back in September, the Circle K club at Vaughn College of
Aeronautics and Technology partook in Kid’s Day at La
Guardia Airport. Children and their family were able to enjoy
a day filled with tours, food, and fun as Vaughn’s Circle K
members worked with students from Aviation High School as
well as other high school to keep things flow smoothly and
safely. It was a beautiful day for people to be more educated
on the different types of planes and equipment used at
airports and it was a pleasure meeting the managers as well
as other officials that work at La Guardia Airport and the Port
Authority. They walked us through the process and what we
were going to do during the events and it was a great
experience.
Service 4
I had lost my way and DLSSP helped me get back on the right path. Going from an executive board position on Key Club as one of the most active clubs in its division to a school where Circle K did not even exist was a huge culture shock to me. The lack of such an organization that had offered me the security and happiness as I had in high school was shocking. When Kelly offered me, an ordinary person, who wasn’t even in a chartered Circle K club, a chance to participate in Empire Division events, I felt out of place. I felt awkward and like I didn’t belong. All the other participants were already part of established organizations. I was just an outsider looking in.
But participating in DLSSP changed everything. I was grateful to have been given the opportunity to clean up a farm and nature trail and repaint the walls of a soup kitchen. It was hard work, but the accomplishments we achieved were real. I was thrust from a state of self- doubt and non- belief to a whole new world. There were kindhearted people who not only believed in themselves but also in changing the world around them. I saw the passion that people had to doing service, helping others and changing the world. I saw the development of leaders that weekend. It mattered not what current position anyone held or what project they participated in. Everyone came together as one to help those in need. We were united. This moment was inspiring. I went from close mindedness to a moment of inspiration. The spirit and pride people had for their organization was what inspired me to re- charter a chapter at St. John’s. I am inspired to spread the same life- changing moments. I am inspired to take what I’ve learned from DLSSP and use it to shape the world around me.

On the weekend of November 9th – 11th 2012, over 80 members of the
New York District of Circle K International came together for the its
annual New York Speaking (NYS) conference. Held in the Georgian Inn
at Lake George, NYS focused on CKI’s fellowship tenant. The weekend
began with the club spirit opening dinner where members showed off
their home club’s pride. This night instills an amazing sense of QCCKI
pride for me. We painted our faces to say “QC;” some members even
painted their entire faces red and blue! We also got to show off two of
our beautifully crafted banners and shout out or CKI/Dr.Seuus themed
cheer, which won the roll call cheer contest! After dinner members got
to create some new bonds and open up to each other as adversity was
discussed. Finally, Friday night concluded with Kindergarden Night
where we got to play with play-doh, board games and crafts. Most
people ended up staying up nearly all night, so when morning came,
members got the chance to attend different workshops. The workshops
varied from personal development to leadership styles to science
projects and more. Saturday also consisted of making notebooks and
PB&J sandwiches for those in need. We ended the night with a formal
dance, a dance and my favorite, the dress your presidents contest!
Mariana and Daniel looked amazing as the Grinch and the Cat in the
Hat. When morning came, NYS closed the weekend with brunch,
raffles, fun awards and chances for us to make new memories most of
all. The weekend came to an end too quick and I can’t wait to see
everyone at District Convention, if not before!
5 Leadership
“To the world you may be one person;
but to one person you may be the world.”
“You are you and that is true, there's no one in the world who's you-er than you.”
Reminders and Updates! Remember that the focus of DLSSP was service, the focus of NYS was fellowship but CKI has one last tenant. In order to focus on the leadership aspect of our organization, we must prepare for our 51st District Convention, “Once Upon a DCON”. We will be exploring the world of fairy tales!
This year, DCON will be held on the weekend of March 22nd – March 24th in Albany, NY and the New York District is inviting you and your club.
Sadly, the 2012-2013 service year more than half way over (7 months in). This means to look over
the goals made at the start of the year and ensuring that you and your club is on track in terms of
goal completion. It’s not too late to plan accordingly and to catch up if you are “behind.” We
want to finish stronger than we started. This also means that it is time to consider leadership
positions for the 2013-2014 CKI year. If you are interested in running for a position whether is be on
the club level, division or district level, please speak to the individual whom holds the current
position you are considering.
MRF’s are due the 7th of every month
whether there are fund or hours to be
recorded. Currently, Empire has 100% of the
MRF’s handed in and majority of them have
been on time! Congratulations and moving
forward, keep it up and aim to get these
MRF’s in on time each month!
