Parables and Accounts that Teach Eternal TruthsUnit 2 Choice 2

The Unjust StewardAnd he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he hadwastedhis goods.2And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give anaccountof thystewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.3Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.4I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.5So he called every one of his lords debtorsunto him,and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?6And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.7Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.8And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than thechildrenoflight.9And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammonof unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.10He that isfaithfulin that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.11If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to yourtrustthe trueriches?12And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another mans, who shall give you that which is your own?

Luke 16:112The Children of This World Are in Their Generation Wiser Than the Children of Light (p. 124).One can only serve one master. Wickedness can only bring about wickedness. The steward was prideful and did not want to face the consequences of his actions. To tbe faithful at the little things is greatness just as to be wicked in little things is to commit sin.

The little things matter.

Wickedness is not happiness

Rich man and LazarusThis set of scriptures is teaching the principle of doing good deeds. Those who do not good, but doeth evil will be tormented for eternity. This was the case with the rich man. He had opportunity to do good and serve Lazarus by taking pity on him, but the rich man did not. And in death he learned that our earthly deeds determine our heavenly rewards. Luke 16:1931Ten LepersGratitude is the principle taught in these verses. It is shown by the one who turned back to Christ to thank Him for being healed. I believe the reason they were to go show themselves to the priests was so that the priests would witness the miracle. Luke 17:1119

GRATITUDE

Unjust JudgeIn this parable a woman comes to the judge to ask to be avenged time and time again. The judge decides to avenge her only because he gets tired of hearing her ask. I think the principle of this is never to lower ones standards no matter what the circumstances. Luke 18:18Pharisee and the PublicanThe principle taught in this set of scriptures is that of humility. One passage from the readings, Luke 18: 14, sums the whole set of scriptures up perfectly. It says, every one thatexaltethhimself shall be abased; and he thathumblethhimself shall be exalted.Luke 18:914
